I'll give $1000 to the first person who can correctly state what Carter's healthcare plan was and what Kennedy's was.

Incidentally, neither was any great shakes.  Neither were about expanding Medicare to cover all Americans.  Both were about privatizing healthcare, expanding insurance company's control and deregulating medical care.

Obama's legislation is not a matter of "not going far enough" -- It's entirely too far IN THE WRONG DIRECTiON!

What Obama and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party did was the equivalent of privatizing the Social Security trust fund (which, by the way, Obama will be setting into motion after the election).

We've got to smarten Obama's 'most ardent supporters', who are the ones least able to endure what Obama's doing.

Kennedy was right about the healthcare plan under Carter.(it would have been stopped by Reagan)
=================================

Healthcare legislations isn't like solar panels on the roof of the White House -- Reagan couldn't have just "stopped it".

What we have are two political parties controlled by corporations.  The SAME corporations.

It doesn't matter who is in the White House or controlling Congress, both parties will serve the same master.

Ironically, what you see as a bad president is exactly the same traits that Obama is exhibiting.

Carter came into Washington with DC insiders sneering at the 'peanut farmer' and obstructing his efforts, just as Republicans are doing now to Obama.  And Carter tried compromising.  What Democrats don't get (and never have gotten, in spite of the fact that Republicans telegraph this to us often enough) is that "The opposition (whoever it is, whether it's foreign or domestic) doesn't respect reasonableness, compromise".

The Reagan and Bush campaign used what they saw as weakness and committed treason by secretly negotiating with Iran during the 1980 campaign.

Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Casey, Jim Baker, and their gang should have faced trial and prison for treason (just as Joanne Herring should have -- Charlie Wilson's War).  But Bill Clinton, DLC co-founder, made sure that wasn't going to happen.

The American People have no real idea of who is running the nation.  But keep watching reality TV.

It's not that Obama's healthcare legislation "didn't go far enough"; it's a corporate bill.  It's a l!e, a sham.

Voters put Obama and Democrats into power to get them affordable quality medical treatment for all.  NOT sell a a few million more insurance policies (and not putting in any cost controls).

You, my friend, have swallowed a load of BS about this legislation.  Not one Democrat is running on this legislation.  Not one.

Obama is a fraud.

It's not even a matter of mistrusting.  It's a matter of eyewitnesses to history telling their stories so that we can see how policies came into being.

THAT is what a democracy is about!

Information dissemination.  Not this false propriety.

Commenters here have been victims of political public relations campaigns for far too long.

I'm no fan of Carter, but that's precisely what has happened.

That said, I knew Ted Kennedy, and while charming and human as heII, and while he did many good things for the People of this country, he was in the worst sense of the word a "politician".

We have to have these discussions about those who are making decisions on our behalf in this democratic republic.  We need to have them on the left and on the right.  We need to have them  about the Kennedys as well as the Bushes, the Reagans, the Nixons, et al.

'Scarped'?

What does that mean?

The only reason Jimmy Carter lost was due to a bad economy he inherited and that was gamed to result to result in what we have become today by the Saudis and special players in US politics, namely conservatives (Reagan, James Baker, and company):

After reading the bulk of the comments here, let me get this straight:

A de@d man can have the last word in a book, but survivors can't contradict the de@d man's version?

That's some democratic republic you people believe in.

Our democracy depends on historical accuracy.

I'll give $1000 to the first person who can correctly state what Carter's healthcare plan was and what Kennedy's was.

Going through my 14,000 comments here would keep him busy (and educated as to the real agenda of the DLC-controlled Democratic Party).

More name-calling.

Distractions are all you can do -- No arguing facts.

Don't give me the politifact.com cr@p again, or I'll be forced to discredit you with surgical precision.

Oh, what the heII, let's go for it:

Between me, Ar!anna, and others, Politifact has been discredited a source for accurate, unbiased assessment.  Politifact has gotten it wrong on Obama's "accomplishments', his promise-keeping, on Halliburton, on war contracting, on Nita Lowey, on the Stupak Amendment, on the healthcare legislation, and more:

Tr0II?

Me?

Have any of them ever done it?

Have any of them ever set up an agency?

I'll answer that for you: No.

It is government workers, civil service, that do the job.  They can come from different graduate school orientations (public administration mainly), but the guiding force behind setting up programs and regulations are the political appointees that the government employees have to answer to.

What isn't changing is Obama.  His political appointees are Bush's.  That's who Obama has been keeping on, or putting into his administration.  The only liberals or progressives he's brought in has been in appointments that get held up in the Senate confirmation process and he's refused to recess appointment them.  So these liberals are kept on ice, unable to speak out.

She would have the same line to Obama that she's had before.

Obama has a habit and practice of neutralizing people, particularly liberals, by nominating them or making them special assistants to him.  He's free to take their advice, yet he doesn't (or hasn't to date).  As special assistants to him (or nominees waiting in the wings to be confirmed by obstructionist Republicans), they are in an awkward position where they cannot speak out in public against anything the president does or says (Joe Biden was talking out of his @$$ again on the Rachel Maddow Show yesterday).  A presidential administration with conflicting messages coming out of it is like chum in the water -- It's only a matter of time, until the next election, when they're turned out.

I'm an old liberal Democrat, id-jit.

Lying (off-topic yet) about me is a typical political operative's tactic, to try to distract the People from the facts.

Try arguing those apples - the facts.

Why are you supporting Obama, who has let the Bush-Cheney administration off the hook?  Why is Obama continuing just about all of the Bush-Cheney policies, both domestically, military, and in foreign affairs?

If you were a real Democrat, you would be marching on the White House and the Democratically-controlled Congress.

Obama's timidity is myth; he's plenty tough when it comes to standing up to the Democratic base.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama&Democrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like civil rights protections, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, WallStreet reform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us nothing else, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that Bush&R0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; Bush&R0ve were just more ruthless (clumsy & careless many political graybeards would say) in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in our nation's history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush&Cheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?

Obama&Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objectives.

Elizabeth Warren didn't have to take the position for 5 years.

She didn't have to go through confirmation either.  Once nominated, she could have begun working immediately.  Her actual nomination before the US Senate could have been put off indefinitely.

If Obama names her to be an assistant to him, she will have no authority over Timothy Geithner (who is the actual person setting up the agency).

I think it's a farce, and at this point just one more stunt (and a typical one) by Obama to try to head off liberals' opposition to his cozy relationship with big business that continues the grand heist on the middle class.

Chris Dodd is retiring in January, and it's expected that he'll be entering one of the banking firms he's been an 'insider lobbyist' for.

Dodd's and his wife's connections to and dealings with AIG woulda, shoulda, gotten them seats in front of a grand jury in the old days.  Among other problems, she was a director for a company controlled by AIG, and AIG executives directed campaign contributions to Dodd in years past because he was to head the banking committee.

We on the left have spent so much of our energy and political capital defending unethical and corrupt Democratic politicians just because Republicans were attacking them, that we've lost credibility with ourselves.  Just because they have a 'D' after their names, doesn't make them good or honest.  Good, honest and effective people don't go into politics anymore.  And we on the Democratic side of the aisle have a lot of quislings among us.

Whistleblower Group Sues To Find Out Why Administration Lowballed BP Oil Spill Estimates

Do you know that the deal isn't on paper, all that BP has paid is $3 billion, and none of it's securitized?

The bills already exceed more than $8 billion, and BP has stopped paying, saying that unless the government guarantees it can continue its dangerous, risky, criminal operations, it's "not going to be able to pay anything".

This is a company that makes hundreds of millions in profits daily.

This deal that Obama made, just like the cr@ppy healthcare bill which required that there be no public option and no cost controls, is a deal to screw over the American People.

BP, like the Bush-Cheney administration, is being protected from investigations and criminal prosecutions by Obama.

Not only is this mess going to cost way more than $20 billion to clean up (forget about making people whole), BP has stopped paying.

The costs are already over $8 billion, and the "missing oil" has now been found sitting on the bottom of the Gulf.   http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129782098&sc=17&f=1001

All that anybody has seen is $3 billion deposited.  http://politifi.com/news/BP-Deposits-the-First-3-Billion-in-Its-Gulf-Oil-Spill-Escrow-Fund-1013924.html

The deal isn't on paper, and none of the money is securitized.  Do you understand what that means?   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OPXHEZX3Eg

As well, BP is extorting the US government.  Unless BP is allowed to continue risky and dangerous drilling, it claims not to be able to pay the residents of the gulf that it's harmed, or clean up anything.

11 people were mvrdered and there hasn't been one criminal indictment.  15 were mvrdered by BP in Texas, and again, no criminal indictments.

Obama has let the criminal BP continue to operate, just like he let the criminal Bush-Cheney administration go and blocks investigations and prosecutions into them all.  Obama is not only an accomplice to their past crimes by doing that, he's now a willing participant.

We've got a problem here, people.  And it's not premature to use the 'I'-word (we should have impeached Clint0n instead of falling on our swords for him -- We got stuck cleaning up his mess, left with the bill, by being loyal to a fault to one of our own, just as we're getting stuck with the tab on Bush-Cheney because our own, the Democrats, wouldn't do all that was necessary to stop them through impeachment).

This is what I don't get either from Obama's most ardent admirers.

He screws us all over, and they're somehow bra!nwashed into giving him a pass.

Are they saying that he's the servant of the Corporate Masters of the Universe, and that he's got no choice?

If, all things were the same except this was 2007, they would be demanding Bush's head on a stake.  I certainly was.  But somehow the president, who is allowing Bush and Cheney to skip town with all our money, gets a Free Pass, a Get Out Of Jail free card, as if we're playing Monopoly.

I have yet to get a direct answer from any one of those who claim to be Democratic voters.  I'm an old, old liberal Democrat, very well connected in politics and activism, and no Democratic voters that I know speaks like these people.  Every single one of them says "That's it, I'm done with Obama" and vows to either vote for a real liberal (should any run in 2012) or third party or stay home.
