Dick Cheney Memoir To Offer 'Strong Views,' Liz Cheney Says

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Why is Cheney crawling back into polite society?

Why isn't he having to spend 24/7 with his lawyers, working on a way to stay out of prison?

Oh, that's right, I forgot: Because Obama and the DLC-Democrats have blocked all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney and Republicans, and have allowed them to resurrect themselves and take back control over government.

This is Obama's fault -- The buck lands squarely at his feet.

Robert Gates On Pakistan: 'Somebody Knew' Osama Bin Laden Was Hiding There

Somebody Knew

========================

Did 'somebody' (Pakistanis) know that the CIA was in a nearby house watching the Bin Laden compound?

If they didn't know that the CIA was in a nearby house watching Bin Laden, why would they know that Bin Laden was there?

If they did know that the CIA was in a nearby house watching Bin Laden, then (if the Pakistanis were on Bin Laden's side) wouldn't they have warned Bin Laden of the CIA's presence?

If the Pakistanis knew that the CIA was in the neighborhood, what did the Pakistanis think the CIA was doing there?  If the Pakistanis knew the CIA was near Bin Laden's house and if the Pakistanis knew where Bin Laden was, wouldn't the Pakistanis have warned Bin Laden that the CIA was close by?

It could be done several ways.  As it is, Congress's repeal hasn't made it happen.  Congress made it contingent upon the Pentagon, so there it's been buried.

The repeal of DADT has NOT been implemented.

That's how Congress wrote it.  They left it up to the Pentagon which is dragging its feet, stonewalling, refusing, claiming a repeal interferes with military readiness, preparedness, morale, the heartbreak of psoriasis, and one excuse after another.

An EO would implement it, put it into place and it's a done deal.  People would become accustomed to it, just as we're accustomed now to integrated services.

Cornel West you are not helping matters.

=============================================

On the contrary, it's you and Obama's other 'most ardent supporters' who aren't helping matters.

Obama has continued just about every policy of BushCo and is getting Republican legislation passed into law.  You and Obama's fans don't go after him and Democrats, but instead you say, "Please sir, may I have another?" and tell everybody else to shut up.

Of those Obama supporters who don't believe him to be a liberal but a centrist, they say that he always has been a centrist & that those Democratic voters who voted for him because they believed him to be a populist, a liberal, weren't listening (forget the fact that Obama ran an aggressive progressive campaign, and to the left of Hillary). And, they say, conservatives who insist Obama's a liberal are either stew_pid or so far right and unpolitically savvy, they don't even belong svcking up space and time on political discussion threads.

To those who thought that during the 2008 campaign, Obama was a moderate and wasn't trying to deceive anyone, what did you think he meant when you heard him saying during the campaign that people had to stay involved after the election, that they couldn't just vote for him, go away for four years and expect that he would do what they had hoped?

What did you think when he said that "there are powerful interests working against what the people want, and if you want me to do your bidding, you would have to make me do it"?

What did you think he was talking about?

Did you think he was just being honest, admitting he could be corrupted? Did you think he was trying to deceive centrists, corporatists, into believing he was really on their side but liberals and progressives could get him to keep his promises to them if they sat on him, kept after him?

Why would Obama and Democrats do anything for you if they know they've got you over a barrel, that you're going to vote for them no matter what, because you're terrified of Republicans?

Poor Schultz turns out to be just one more team player hack.

============================================

Ed Schultz began as a conservative talk radio (h8 radio) host to what he was calling himself 3-4 years ago, a "centrist Democrat".  Schultz was the blue-collar kind of guy that voted for Reagan.  Ed loved Reagan, h8ted liberals, and that's what his show was all about.  The problem for Ed was that after Llmbaugh and the end of the Fairness Doctrine, the air waves quickly filled with Limbaugh wannabes, and in that sea, Ed couldn't really gain traction.

When the tides began to turn and Reagan Democrats started feeling the effects of Republican fiscal policies and they were losing their jobs  they began to realize that Republican management philosophy of "Last hired, first fired" also applied to their political loyalties ("We eat our young after we get their vote"), Ed Schultz saw a career opportunity and became a "centrist Democrat".  Within one year he was referring to himself as a liberal Democrat.

Ed's not well read or big on 'book learnin'.  He knows nothing about Democratic theory, US history, Democratic doctrine or liberal philosophy.  He doesn't know pretty basic information that movement libs were weaned on, except that he's been consistently pro-labor union.  But Ed's true colors surfaced again with healthcare reform -- Ed's not really on the side of the working men and women; he pushed the bill for the "small business owner".

Unfortunately for Ed, when he ceased support for public healthcare, he proved his true conservative Republican colors.  Obama's healthcare legislation really doesn't help small business owners either (the only businesses getting waivers/exemptions are huge corporations).  Single payer would help the small business owner.  Employers and employees do not want their being able to get medical treatment tied to their job, but that is what the insurance industry wanted so Obama and the DLC-controlled Democrats in Congress have made sure that continues in perpetuity.

Schultz was majorly in love with Obama until after the healthcare legislation was passed.  It was only then that Schultz started, and for only a short time, talking about the 'emperor having shoes but no feet'.

Ed's nothing if not an opportunist.  But I say that in a complimentary sense.  And I give him chops -- His screeds on MSNBC about single payer universal health care left everyone else there in the dust.  But in the end, he climbs back into bed with the 'Establishment Elites' and does their bidding.

The only "group" that West thinks Obama should be focused on are the People.

West is talking about the public, the people, as the underclass.  That Obama is of, by and for the elites, that top 2% richest, and not of, by or for the poor and middle classes, the ordinary American citizen.

West is expressing regret, disappointment and anger, about having been taken in by Obama, believing Obama to be concerned with the plight of the oppressed and dedicated to championing the cause of the have nots.

Remember that even when DEMS were in charge, there were several of them that voted with the Republicans.

============================================

There is plenty that a President and a Speaker of the House and a Senate Majority Leader can do to pressure representatives and senators into voting as you want them to vote.  We saw that Obama had no problem doing it when he wanted and needed Blue Dogs like Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu's votes -- He literally bought them.

There is nothing that the Blue Dogs are doing that Obama and the DLC doesn't want them to do.

Obama and the DLC worked their butts off to PREVENT more progressives/liberals from getting elected and suppress Democratic voter turnout in the 2010 midterms.

Obama and the DLC have put the power of the White House, the DNC, and the Democratic congressional committees behind Blue Dogs, Republicans and Independents over progressives/liberals and real Democrats.  Some, but not all, examples:

Blue Dog Blanche Lincoln over progressive Democrat Lt. Governor Bill Halter.

Republican-turned-Independent Arlen Specter over progressive Democrat Joe Sestak.

Republican-turned-Independent Lincoln Chaffee over Democrat Frank Caprio (which, in turn, is an effective endorsement of the Republican John Loughlin over Democrat David Cicilline for the congressional seat Democrat Patrick Kennedy is retiring from, and all of the other seats up for grab in Rhode Island).

Republican-turned-Independent Charlie Crist over liberal Democrat Kendrick Meek.

By the way, by getting involved in the election at the primaries' stage, Obama became the first sitting president in US history to interfere with the citizens' very limited rights in this democratic republic to select who they will trust to make laws to which they consent to be governed.

Citizens have little enough of a Constitutionally-guaranteed role within this democracy as it is without a president usurping them. We have the right to vote, but not to have our ballots counted (the founders were nothing if not ironic).  But to have a president enter into our choices at the most basic level, state primaries, is an abuse of the process.

Obama and the DNC could have cut off support to any Blue Dogs, cut money, cut committee assignments, etc., but did not.

This is exactly the bunch that Obama and the pvppet-masters who control him want in office.  On both sides of the aisle.  Obama, Ds & Rs in office, working on behalf of transnational corporations.

I didn't (start it); you did.

It doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to have predicted that on the heels of Obama releasing the long form of his birth certificate, he'd announce Bin Laden's death, refuse to release photos and dispose of the body before the death was announced and then try to link calls for proof to "birtherism".

When did you stop being a responsible citizen of the democratic United States?  You can't make informed decisions as a citizen when the government withholds information and refuses to enforce and abide by the rule of law.

If OBL is dead, how did it take place, where is the evidence?  Did it fall within the law?  Questions are being raised that require answers:

Osama bin Laden's guns found 'only after' US Navy Seals killed him
• AP revelation fuels claims al-Qaida chief was illegally executed
• New account sheds light on sequence of US raid in Abbottabad
• Report comes amid news of clash between Nato and Pakistan

Now you may not care, you may not see the point or the connection, but those of us who have experienced very personally, had the blowback from what our government has done to other people in other countries hit our families do see the point.

The old "lesser of two eviIs" argument just doesn't work anymore.

Obama's continuing just about all of the BushCheney policies, even going BushCo one better:  How do any of Obama's 'most ardent supporters' explain Obama's doctrine that presidents have the right to k!ll American citizens with no due process, no oversight, and his push for 'indefinite preventive detention' and no transparency of anything a president asserts should be his secret?   Pure Kafka.

As a Democrat, I don't know how any Democrat can get behind this.

At this point, I would argue that Obama and Democrats are worse.  Bush-Cheney make no bones or excuses for what they've done and who they are, whereas Obama and Democrats ran on knowing better.

Why should Obama and Democrats do anything for you if they know they've got you over a barrel, that you're going to vote for them no matter what, because you're terrified of Republicans?

==================================================

Are you referring to the Lily Ledbetter Act?

If Lily Ledbetter did anything for women's rights, it never would have passed.

All that Lily Ledbetter does is extend the time on the statute of limitations for a particular class of lawsuit covered under the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  When the clock starts to run.  It's not something that took 45 years to change either; just 18 months.  If Obama and Democrats really wanted to make CHANGE and history with regard to women's rights, they'd have followed Lily Ledbetter up immediately with a 'transparency in pay' act.  But they didn't.

Even Obama, the fork-tongued lawyer, stopped referring to it as "healthcare reform" and called it "health INSURANCE reform".   Obama and Democrats were put into power to get affordable, quality medical treatment for everyone, but instead got costs for care increased and massive profits for the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.  Health Insurance Industry Loves That You Can’t Afford to Use Your Coverage

Obama's not a progressive.

"Privately, Obama describes himself as a Blue Dog Democrat"

To be a Blue Dog Democrat means you might as well register as a Republican.

Candidate Obama was all over the place, depending on who was talking to at any given time and what day it was in the campaign, which primaries were done with and who he didn't need to woo anymore.

Obama got into office by misleading Democratic voters. He ran to the left of Hillary Clinton. He convinced centrists that he was a centrist. He convinced liberals he was a liberal posing as a centrist.

Obama's a lawyer (and I mean that in the worst sense of the word), choosing his words very carefully (lawyer-speak) during the campaign, giving people the sense of what they wanted to hear to get their vote. It's why even among his most ardent admirers, they still argue about whether he's a liberal or a centrist or a moderate Republican.

Doing what is good for transnational corporations is what Obama is about, and trying to sell it as good for Americans is what he does afterwards.

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' keep the Lily Ledbetter Act at the top of a list of Obama's "accomplishments"  because to explain the ridiculousness of it as an "Obama accomplishment" (or a grand populist achievement) can't be done in a 10-word sound byte.

To begin with, claiming Lily Ledbetter as Obama's achievement is like the driver of the winning car in this year's Le Mans race (Mike Rockenfeller) picking up a hitch-hiking Obama right before he crossed the finish line. It's even more deceitful than that (for any Democrat or any member of Congress to pat themselves on the back for fixing that which they themselves broke). But even that doesn't quite explain it.

Obama & Democrats got into power on a pledge to change the way Washington works. Little is ever said or explained about what that really means. I'm going to attempt it:

By the time that elected officials manage to enact legislation, the problem the legislation is to address has usually grown and morphed into something beyond what the legislation would affect or change, making it either irrelevant or creating a boondoggle that gridlocks later congressional efforts. Or, something else.

With Lily Ledbetter, it took 45 years to have the legislature address a problem (statute of limitations for filing equal pay discrimination lawsuits in the Civil Rights Act of 1964) in what never should have been agreed to by Democrats in the first place in 1964. Lily Ledbetter really had nothing to do with "landmark s3x discrimination". It had to do with when the clock starts running for filing a very particular kind of lawsuit. It doesn't affect statutes of limitation for any other kind of lawsuit. It doesn't apply to the filing of all lawsuits. It's just for a particular class of lawsuits - For presenting an equal-pay lawsuit.

And it wasn't 45 years of Congresses trying to fix it. It was a year and a half. It was in response to the Supreme Court's decision in 2007 in one woman's lawsuit. It's not going to affect millions, or thousands or even hundreds of others - Ironically, if it were to affect more women, it never would have passed, no matter what party held the Congress (because it would have meant more money paid out from corporations to women, and Democrats work for corporations just as Republicans do).

If you want to tout passage of Lily Ledbetter then you're going to have to take the blame for not following it up immediately with legislation for transparency in pay.  It's a joke without it.  It's like taking a starving person to a world class restaurant, blowing the aromas from the kitchen in his face, but not letting him eat.

Shame on Melissa Harris-Perry.
