Obama Targets Core Constituencies In Midterms Home Stretch

The jury's not out; Obama's already broadcast what he's going to do:

Obama, after the election next month:

==According to excerpts from the Times, aides say that the president's been spending "a lot of time talking about Obama 2.0," brainstorming with administration officials about the best way to revamp the strategies & goals of the WhiteHouse.

And despite the predictions that Democrats may relinquish a large degree of legislating power, including perhaps control of the House & even Senate, Obama isn't thinking of the next two years as a period that'll be marked with the same obstructive nature from the GOP.

"It may be that regardless of what happens after this election, [Republicans] feel more responsible, either because they didn't do as well as they anticipated, & so the strategy of just saying no to everything & sitting on the sidelines & throwing bombs didn't work for them," Obama says in the article. "Or they did reasonably well, in which case the American people are going to be looking to them to offer serious proposals & work with me in a serious way."

DickDurbin says Obama's post-election agenda "will have to be limited & focused on the things that are achievable & high priorities for the American people." TomDaschle says Obama has to reach out more: "The key word is inclusion. He's got to find ways to be inclusive."==

"Quixotic"? "Throw away"?

How myopic, arrogant and self-centered of you to think that. when if 0bamabots were to demand that which they were promised in 2008 by the Obama campaign (instead of their accepting the bum's rush), they would realize just how little the DLC thought of them and would reregister tomorrow as Independents.

Hearing that from you is almost like talking directly to Rahm.

What "infrastructure"? And whose vision? The DLC's & GOP's privatization plans?

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' are to blame for allowing these DINOs to sell out the People.

I suggest that you consider Democrats & Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, & when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, & continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what WeThePeople thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans & all the different ways they've been tricked & start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business -- This current one, because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc., is custom-tailored to Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize they're trying to sell that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do, & that's "a good thing".

Whichever of us is right (& I can back up my contentions with much evidence of Obama's not being any more ethical than BushCheney, beginning with his assertion that the president has the right to k!II American citizens with absolutely no due process, no oversight), how is his government's ineffectiveness working for you, for us?

Throughout the summer debate over healthcare reform, Obama disappeared from the public debate, which was especially onerous during the summer town halls when teabaggers came into prominence & disrupted any real discussion. Obama cut secret deals with Big Insurance, PhRma, hospitals, the AMA, etc., & lied about it.

Obama elevated the TeaParty to prominence, and for specific reasons: To water down legislation, make it Republican-like & deliver to the corporations, & to move the DemocraticParty even farther to the right in order to attract moderate Republican politicians & their supporters into the Democratic Party.

By the way, I'm talking about a president who was a popular leader, who came into the WhiteHouse with more Americans having voted for him & his campaign of CHANGE than had ever voted before in the history of the country. FOR A BLACK MAN IN R@CIST AMERICA. Go figure.

That's PLATINUM political capital, & Obama came into office with a huge amount. So much that the GOP was in a puddle in the gutter outside of the US Capitol. After the 2008 election, Republicans weren't just on the ropes; they were down for the count. What did Obama do? He issued them a pardon.

He blocked all investigations and prosecutions into the Bush administration. Instead of going after Republican leadership in Congress (who made it abundantly clear they had no intention of working on a bipartisan basis with Democrats or Obama), Obama & Rahm Emanuel went after Rush Limbaugh & Sarah Palin, 2 people with no positions in the RepublicanParty.

Democratic Caucus.

60 in the Democratic Caucus.

'Party government' runs the US Congress, has since the late 1790s, and the Democratic Party has controlled both Houses of Congress (with a supermajority in the Senate) and the White House since 2008.

That's what being in the majority party's caucus means -- You get the perks of the power by caucusing with the majority party. If you want to keep that committee chair, you do as the leaders of the party tell you to do.

Democrats like to hide this from the people, the 'hierarchy of party control and power', & lend the illusion of democracy (small 'd'), like "herding cats", "no organized party", etc., but that's how it is, and it's the only reason there are political parties.

If you do not get behind what the leader of your political party tells you to do, you're going to find your life really cold and lonely for the duration of your term in office. And come reelection time, you will NOT have the party organization behind you either at a state or national level -- That is certain de@th for your time in office, not to mention your overall career in politics.

There are all kinds of other 'carrots and sticks' you use to keep your party (& those caucusing with you) together, and if Obama really wanted to, it would have happened.

Democrats have everyone they need, to do the job they were put into power to do for the American people.

During the Bush years, Democrats said if the People wanted change, they had to put Democrats in the majority in Congress. So in 2006, we did. Nothing changed.

Democrats said, "You have to give us more Democrats -- 60 in the Senate". In 2008, we gave them the 60. And the White House.

Obama came into office with the wind at his back. More people voted for him, a black man in America, than ever in the history of the US. They did it because of his ability to persuade that he was going to change the system, end the corporatocracy, lobbyism in government -- He was going to be the People's president, not a corporate t00I.

And no sooner did Obama get elected than he slammed the brakes on the momentum of his election & a filibuster-proof Senate (tentative yet, with 2 senators, Kennedy & Byrd, at d.e.a.t.h's door), Obama did a 180-degree turn on his promises & sloooooowed everything down. To "work in a bipartisan manner with Republicans", after Republicans had already announced they were going to block everything Democrats wanted to do, vote no on everything, in lockstep.

There were many routes to getting real Democratic legislation through, but Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats in Congress refused to do any of them.

Obama's a DINO, & until his 'most ardent supporters' get that, we're d00med.

Why are Obama & Democrats blocking investigations & prosecutions of the economic collapse?

Obama's DoJ has filed briefs defending DOMA in the court challenge of DOMA advancing legal arguments that, if pursued by the courts, could greatly damage gay and lesbian rights (that homosexuality is the equivalent of incest and pedophilia/child rape).

Contrary to what Obama's 'most ardent supporters' excuse and what an Obama spokeswoman at the DoJ said, "Obama opposes the law, and the administration was defending the statute because it was obligated to defend federal laws when challenged in court", the DoJ has no obligation to file a brief in favor of DOMA ( http://www.americablog.com/2009/06/choice-to-defend-doma-and-its.html ).

Obama could end DADT tomorrow but just not filing an appeal.

How does a Democratic president, on the heels of the most criminal and corrupt administration in the nation's history, not replace Bush-era US attorneys? Presidents may fire US attorneys, and they do so routinely at the beginning of a new administration. It is unusual to fire US attorneys in mid-term (as Bush did) except in cases of gross misconduct (which wasn’t the case during the Bush administration). This is what Obama's US attorneys do instead of returning the democracy to the American people -- Instead we get Bush-style obscenity prosecutions:

Why are you voting for Democrats?

What do you think Obama is going to do after the November 2 elections if Republicans take control of one or both Houses of Congress?

Do you think he'll veto the legislation they pass (through reconciliation & every other means they can manage)? Do you think Obama will take to the bully pulpit, urge Americans to bury Republicans in email, phone calls, snail mail, & urge Democrats to block Republicans every way possible?

Or do you think that Obama's going to be making deal after deal with them, spinning what he can as somehow "Good for the People and Democrats", and/or, "I'm president of all the People, & the People in their infinite wisdom put Republicans in the majority, so I must honor their wishes & work with Republicans, & not try to obstruct their will"?

And if Democrats keep control of Congress? Do you think Obama's going to continue trying to work in a "bipartisan manner" with Republicans, keep flip-flopping on his campaign promises, & say that the election was a referendum on his trying "change the tone in Washington", and voters want him to do more of the same?

CNBC predicts Congress will retroactively legalize foreclosure fraud:

== Congress will pass a bill to "forgive" banks the potentially criminal errors made in foreclosure proceedings, a senior CNBC editor predicts.

In a blog column Friday, John Carney argues that lawmakers in DC won't allow the country's largest issuers of mortgages to suffer financial losses following revelations of numerous mishandled foreclosure proceedings, especially when bailing them out this time "won't cost taxpayers a dime":

"Here’s what is going to happen: Congress will pass a law called something like 'The Financial Modernization and Stability Act of 2010' that will retroactively grant mortgage pools the rights in the underlying mortgages that people are worried about. All the screwed up paperwork, lost notes, unassigned security interests will be forgiven by a legislative act....The [foreclosure] crisis is not driven by economics. It is driven by legal rights. And there’s simply zero probability that the politicians in Washington are going to let Bank of America or Citigroup or JP Morgan Chase fail because of a legal issue."

Carney predicts that the lame-duck session of Congress following this November's elections will pass the law. "Every member of Congress ... who has been voted out of office will cast a vote for the bill. And the President will sign it."

As Democrats' Message Lags, GOP Awaits Huge Wins

Writing a book isn't exactly the same as Bush spending nearly one-third of his time in office on vacation.

=====================================

No, it's not the same.

While Bush spent nearly one-third of his time in office on vacation, he still managed to drive the nation off a cliff because Democrats in Congress explored other pursuits than their jobs.

And even if Boxer's was a "strong voice for genuine Democratic principles" (as you seem to believe), it's not enough. When businesses are run as you suggest, they go bankrupt. Results are what you reward, not intent (although I don't happen to believe that Democratic politicians' intent is what you think it is).

Voters' choices are not limited to Democrats and Republicans. There are other alternatives besides sitting out the election or voting for Republicans.

And right off the bat, the top 2 on your list:

"1. Ordered all federal agencies to undertake a study and make recommendations for ways to cut spending

2. Ordered a review of all federal operations to identify and cut wasteful spending and practices"

EVERY administration does this. Obama's putting a swingset on the White House lawn is as much of an "accomplishment" as those two.

And #3?:

"3. Instituted enforcement for equal pay for women"

That's referring to the Lilly Ledbetter Act, and that's NOT what it did.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about, you don't know about policy, governing, legislation, yet you really want to be a cheerleader for Obama and weigh in with an opinion on this subject. Why?

Politifact's gamed its way of measuring Obama's "promisekeeping"; its categories ('NO ACTION', 'IN THE WORKS', 'STALLED' or 'NOT YET RATED) are misleading. Many a campaign promise or pledge (hundreds of them) has been generously placed in these categories to languish so that Politifact can cut Obama much slack by only recognizing 22 broken promises.

As Politifact claims, "Once we find action is completed, we rate them 'PROMISE KEPT' 'COMPROMISE' or 'PROMISE BROKEN'". By Politifact's own definition, it enables Obama to keep these issues in limbo for 4 years.

One of many examples of Politifact's gaming its list:

Politifact doesn't even list in its "Promises Broken" category Obama's campaign promise to impose 'Windfall Profits Taxes on the Oil & Gas Industry" - Obama immediately reneged on that promise once in office, saying, "The prices have now dropped - We'll see about doing that if or when they rise again." Oil hit over $80/barrel (the amount that, had Obama kept his promise, the windfall profits tax would've been triggered) months ago. Politifact has conveniently ignored this issue.

Obama's timidity is myth; he's plenty tough when it comes to standing up to the Democratic base.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that ObamaAndDemocrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like CivilRights protections, restoring HabeasCorpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, WallStreetReform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that BushAndR0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; BushAndR0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching BushAndCheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?

ObamaAndDemocrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them's been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objective.

The outcome would have been the same had Nader been in the race or not. Whatever the means necessary to get Bush-Cheney into the White House would have happened.

If the means to getting Bush-Cheney into office required a close election and Nader not been running, some other means would have been used.

For pity's sake, the CIA was working on GOP absentee ballots in the weeks leading up to election day in Florida. Jeb Bush & Katherine Harris had been working for two years to purge voters from the polls. Close to 200,000 ballots were never tallied, never even examined, due to undervotes.

Do people forget all the different ways that that election was gamed by the GOP? And that's just in Florida, and just the ways that we learned about because of legal proceedings in the post-election days.

Don't beat yourself up (or Nader); Nader is now just a handy excuse to keep the status quo in place, and the People in line, forever agreeable to voting for whoever they believe to be the lesser of two ev!ls.

As a very old liberal Democrat, I tell you that the seeds for a complete financial meltdown were planted before Bush-Cheney & during each administration going back to Reagan (& actually, before that, back to Nixon).

We were put on this path by a push for unrestrained & unregulated capitalism. Corporations have managed to game our political system, & done it so effectively that the two-party system competes to serve corporate interests while defending that service as, "What's good for GM (corporations) is good for America (WeThePeople)".

Democrats (controlled by the DLC, & that's important to remember) & Republicans are corporate t00Is. Like siblings competing for the attention & approval (campaign contributions) of a parent, Republicans & DLC-controlled Democrats try to outdo each other in delivering for their real constituent, BigCorporations. The trick for them's been to make it seem as if they were really working on behalf of WeThePeople.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama & Democrats were for strong regulations on banks, WallStreet, investigations, prosecutions, restitution of what's been robbed from the middle class & poor for the past 30+ years, environmental clean-up, clean, sustainable renewable energy (& that isn't nuclear), putting an end to the wars & occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan, affordable, quality universal healthcare (which ObamaCare is not), and more. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to these & all populist issues, because like the RepublicanParty, the DLC works for the benefit of transnational corporations.

While most Democratic voters support liberal opinions (as do most voters, when informed of the facts), the Democratic establishment is not liberal; it's pro-corporate pro-CORPORATE, PRO-CORPORATE. And anti-populist.

If you were alive pre-Reagan, you would know that liberal policies were what created the greatest middle class in the history of the world. For example, during the Bush-Cheney years, I didn't help put Barbara Boxer into power so that she could collect a salary while not doing everything she could to obstruct the Bush-Cheney-GOP agenda (as Republicans are doing with less power as a minority than Democrats had, and with less political capital from disputed elections), instead WRITING TWO NOVELS ("Something I always wanted to do when I had the time") - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX4CLfleLVg

I didn't help put Barbara Boxer into power so that she would thwart Connecticut's Democratic voters' choice for senator and help the newly independent Joe Lieberman win over the Democratic Party's nominee, Ned Lamont.

I helped put her into power to spend every waking moment advancing Democratic policies & values. And if she's not able to do that, there are others who will.

The reason you send people back to Congress or the White House is because you like the job they're doing.

Do you like the job these Democrats are doing? Are you and the nation better off today than you were 6 years ago? Twelve years ago? Eighteen years ago?

Just about every alleged 'liberal' or 'progressive' Democrat in office has a similar history.

Poverty In Suburbs Increasing Rapidly During Economic Downturn

Angry voters aren't interested is tallies of legislative successes. They aren't even interested that much in facts on the ground. They are hell bent on blaming the party in power for evreything they don't like about governemnt. Sadly that's the BS.

Are you angry? Is that why you're angry? Because you're "hellbent on blaming government, and aren't "even interested that much in facts on the ground"?

I'm angry, that's not why I'm angry, and I'm very much interested in "the facts on the ground". I'm not hellbent on blaming government; I'm hellbent on getting real Democrats into power. I'm angry because the politicians that I voted for, that I helped put into power, aren't successful in achieving what we (the politicians, I and the others who put them into office) agreed they would do if they got into office.

I didn't put Democratic politicians into power to pass Republican legislation. I didn't put Democratic politicians into power to help them achieve their personal ambitions. I did help put Democrats into power to spend their every waking moment working their @$$es off to get specific policies & legislation into law, and keep other policies & values (Republican) from becoming the law of the land.

As Democrats' Message Lags, GOP Awaits Huge Wins

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

During the Bush-Cheney years, I didn't help put Barbara Boxer into power so that she could collect a salary while not doing everything she could to obstruct the Bush-Cheney-GOP agenda (as Republicans are doing with less power as a minority than Democrats had, and with less political capital from disputed elections), instead WRITING TWO NOVELS ("Something I always wanted to do when I had the time") - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX4CLfleLVg

And if you don't know this, if you're still defending Obama and Democrats, you're helping them & Republicans deny what you claim you want and frustrate your efforts to get it.
