Bill Clinton Races To Help Democrats, Treading Where Obama Won't

Friday, October 22, 2010

I suggest that you consider Democrats & Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, & when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, & continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what WeThePeople thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans & all the different ways they've been tricked & start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business -- This current one, because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc., is custom-tailored to Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize they're trying to sell that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do, & that's "a good thing".

When it's topical, nobody is more incisively critical about Bill Clinton than me.

But right now, Obama is the president.

And both are the SAME as Republicans. You just confused by the packaging; you like and trust the 'D' stamped on Obama & Clinton.

Oprah Interviewing President Bush

They lend him credibility, and that is their s!n.

If Laura Bush was at odds with his policies, she should have left him. Bush and Cheney have brought this nation to the edge of collapse, destroyed the lives of the middle class, and murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children, displaced millions more, and there is no recovery for anyone in their path. Not in this lifetime.

Bill Clinton Races To Help Democrats, Treading Where Obama Won't

Obama's already broadcast what he & Democrats are going to do if Democrats remain in the majority -- More caving by Obama & Democrats to Republicans:

==According to excerpts from the Times, aides say that the president's been spending "a lot of time talking about Obama 2.0," brainstorming with administration officials about the best way to revamp the strategies & goals of the WhiteHouse.

And despite the predictions that Democrats may relinquish a large degree of legislating power, including perhaps control of the House & even Senate, Obama isn't thinking of the next two years as a period that'll be marked with the same obstructive nature from the GOP.

"It may be that regardless of what happens after this election, [Republicans] feel more responsible, either because they didn't do as well as they anticipated, & so the strategy of just saying no to everything & sitting on the sidelines & throwing bombs didn't work for them," Obama says in the article. "Or they did reasonably well, in which case the American people are going to be looking to them to offer serious proposals & work with me in a serious way."

DickDurbin says Obama's post-election agenda "will have to be limited & focused on the things that are achievable & high priorities for the American people." TomDaschle says Obama has to reach out more: "The key word is inclusion. He's got to find ways to be inclusive."==

Did the Senate pass those "over 400 pieces of legislation"? (No)

Democrats in both chambers of Congress work as a team. They identify what they hope to achieve (pro-corporate legislation) and then strategize how to get it while saving each other's hides with constituents come election time.

Those in liberal districts get to talk a good game about being champions of the People, but when push comes to shove, if their votes are needed to cross over and k!ll liberal legislation (like a public option or access to ab0rtion), the DNC will make sure they are covered come election time, with massive infusions of money into their campaign war chests and crushing any principled challenges to them from the left in their primaries.

Here's an example of how they tag team us - Progressive Congresswoman Woolsey Endorses Pro-War Blue Dog Jane Harman Over Progressive Marcy Winograd:

Bill Clinton Races To Help Democrats, Treading Where Obama Won't

Democratic voters, for the most part, still haven't finished their love affair with Bill Clinton.

Like the real debate & assessment of Reagan that's never happened, we've never assessed Clinton's true legacy. Eliminating the social welfare safety nets, Glass-Steagle, the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, rendition, privatization, the sanctions & daily bombing of Iraq (& so much more) laid the foundation for what Bush-Cheney did to decimate the country. As Alan Greenspan said, "Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we've had in a while."

The same is so for Obama. More so.

I keep hearing the latest DLC pitch for not throwing Democratic incumbents out of office on November 2nd: "Do you want to return to the failed policies of Bush-Cheney & Republicans?"

When did we ever leave them?

Obama-Biden have been continuing just about all of the Bush-Cheney policies, and the DLC-controlled Congress has been watering down real Democratic legislation, turning it into Republican-legislation.

Republicans love it -- They don't have to vote for it, which satisfies their base's need for knee-jerk tribal warfare between the 2 political parties (how many times have you heard Republican tr0IIs declare that a bill "must be bad if Democrats are for it"?), AND, it satisfies their & Democrats' shared Corporate Masters. They get amply rewarded with great big donations to their reelection campaigns.

What Obama's been doing should be shocking to all real Democratic voters.

If the means to getting Bush-Cheney into office required a close election and Nader not been running, some other means would have been used. The powers that be were not going to let Gore win, no matter what, and gamed it innumerable ways.

For pity's sake, the CIA was working on GOP absentee ballots in the weeks leading up to election day in Florida. Jeb Bush & Katherine Harris had been working for two years to purge voters from the polls.

Do people forget all the different ways that that election was gamed by the GOP, and all of the ways that the Democratic establishment abandoned Gore? And that's just in Florida, and just the ways that we learned about because of legal proceedings in the post-election days.

There was a coup d'etat in this country in 2000. A bIoodless coup, but a coup nonetheless.

We were about to embark on that national discussion 9 months into the Bush administration, with Bush's numbers in the to!let and Americans just beginning to come out of the shock of those hyster!cal post-election days in Florida. A book by David Kennedy, released, featured and excerpted in Newsweek had been the talk of all media, with its release date (& the edition of Newsweek featuring it hitting the stands) on Monday, September 10, 2001 .

By Wednesday, September 12th, all copies had been removed from the stands nationwide, replaced with this: http://cdn2.ioffer.com/img/item/137/166/197/RKvikIQRzgOhd8G.jpg

Al Gore won. Gore got more votes in Florida. Any way it was counted (and the biggest point that people seem to forget were that close to 200,000 ballots were never tallied, never even examined, due to undervotes), Gore got more votes than Bush.

For the Bush-Cheney campaign (or anyone claiming to be an "America-loving patriot") to use the "cherry-picking" excuse to not count lawfully cast ballots in the United States is so stunningly offensive, you all should have been driven out of the country and forced to live behind fences you're so desperate to build on our borders. Elections belong to We The People; it's not for the candidates to have to request or pay for recounts when there are anomalies like those in Florida.

That was a stolen election, and people should have gone to prison, starting with the governor and his secretary of state for spitting on a sacred trust.

Bill Clinton Baffled By Democrats' Campaign Failures

Liberals need to take control of the Democratic Party and start educating the American people on what liberal policies are, explain them in detail and then discuss why they are the solution. Liberal policies were, after all, what made this country great, built the American dream and created the greatest middle class in the history of the world. And then Nixon came along and wrecked it all to heII.

But that is going to take a while, and it's never going to be possible with the DLC controlling the Democratic Party.

The DLC is ideologically aligned with Republicans. It's the old Republican party, before Ralph Reed delivered an organized Christian Right to the Republican Party. Pro-corporate, anti-populist, pro-war, anti-civil rights, pro-police state, chipping away at privacy rights, abortion rights -- There's no defending that out of any Democrat.

Bill Clinton Baffled By Democrats' Campaign Failures

No matter what the outcome of this election, Obama will spin it as a mandate for continuing a pro-corporate, anti-populist agenda. The TeaParty is an effective nemesis for him, but in fact, they're toothless.

There are only 600 registered nationally, & what they actually are is the Republican base. There are only a handful of them even running, & even if they all won (O'Donnell's 20 points behind in the polls), they'd move to the left as Scott Brown has done ("Sarah Palin, who?") or remain fringe. But in any case they'd be controlled by Republican leadership in the Congress. They're really not a "growing movement" any more than Republicanism is growing -- They're the Republican Party. They're not any more conservative than the party's been for 30 years.

But my problem is with a Democratic Party that is utilizing the same fear tactics that Bush-Cheney utilized before elections. Only now it's fear of teabaggers scaling the walls of our democracy with knives between their teeth to behead us, instead of Al Qaeda.

Once the election is over, what Obama & the DLC-Democrats are going to do after November 2nd are things we'd be discussing (and objecting to) now, pre-election, if we had the chance -- More NAFTA-like treaties outsourcing Americans' jobs.

Bill Clinton Baffled By Democrats' Campaign Failures

This election is about what Obama and Democrats did with the mandate given them in 2008. They're not even running on what they did, it's that bad. They're running on "OMIGOD, THE REPUBLICANS ARE COMING!!"

The fear campaign again that we thought we were getting rid of when we put Democrats & Obama into power. No more pre-election Osama B!n Laden tapes leaked, no more 'overseas travel advisories', no non-specific terr0rist threats plastered all over the media in the weeks before an election. We were supposed to be done with all that; Democrats were supposed to be better.

But all we hear out of them and the corporate media is an all-fear, all the time, over Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell, 2 candidates unlikely to win (O'Donnell is something like 18 points below Coons). If a fluke happened and either won, she would most likely do what ScottBrown did when he won TedKennedy's seat: Moved to the left, said, "SarahPalin, who???"

SarahPalin herself governed Alaska as a moderate Republican, which is no different than any DLCer governs. If you're not afraid of Evan Bayh (who is to the right of moderate Republicanism & and who is the model for the candidates that Obama & Rahm Emanuel recruited for this election), you have no business being afraid of Sarah Palin.

Obama, RahmEmanuel, the DLC, DavidAxelrod, DavidPlouffe, all have worked their @$$es off to prevent real progressives getting into office. One example right off the bat is Blanche Lincoln.

The White House put its full weight & support behind Blanche Lincoln over the true progressive (& union-backed) candidate in the primary, Bill Halter.

This wasn't unlike when Obama made a deal with Arlen Specter and put the full weight and support of the Democratic machine behind Specter during the 2010 primary in Pennsylvania, trying to buy off (among other alternative candidates Democratic voters in PA might have wanted to vote to have representing them) Joe Sestak. Consider that -- Obama actively went about trying to prevent Democratic voters from choosing their preferred candidate for the US so that a DINO, Republican Arlen Specter, could retain the seat.

BlancheLincoln's 18 points down behind the GOP candidate JohnBoozman.

Guess who could beat Boozman in Arkansas? Lt. Governor BillHalter. Because, like just about all Americans, Arkansans would prefer an authentic, likable candidate, even if it's a progressive.

But more progressives in Congress means real populist legislation getting passed into law. Real reform bills, that re-regulate banks & big business. Real stimulus bills, with jobs creation, green clean energy development, and more. But that's not who or what Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats are about.

I've been voting the lesser of two ev!ls (DLC Democrats) since the DLC took over the DemocraticParty in the late 1980s.

I have watched the DLC take the DemocraticParty farther to the right each election cycle, promising change & reform, blaming the lack of it on voters for not electing enough Democrats liberals progressives, all the while the party leaders are bankrolling pro-corporate DINOs over true liberals & cooperating with Republicans in Congress.

Never are the party leaders using the bully pulpit of their offices to educate or inform the American people as to the great traditions of liberal Democracy & how the People have prospered under liberal Democrats.

Currently, this DINO of a president has continued just about all of the Bush-Cheney policies & gone Bush-Cheney one better in several areas. Civil rights abuses that Bush & Cheney could only fantasize about, never dare try, Obama's doing.

How does any Democratic voter defend Obama after he asserts he has the right to k!ll any American citizen without due process or oversight? And 'preventive detention'? And Obama's claims of 'state secrets' to deny courts even look at his a$$a$$ination program?

Let's get some definitions on the table.

I am an old FDR liberal Democrat. I'm against privatization of government, and for regulated capitalism (like Naomi Klein, I'm for a mixed economy). I'm for social safety nets; those we have, those we've had, and others which we would have had had it not been for the Reagan "revolution", and which would have come in handy during tough times like this, and which might have prevented this meltdown from happening at all. Most of all, I'm for education. Free to all, all the way.

I am one of the 70% of liberals that comprise the Democratic Party.

The DLC (pro-corporate, anti-populist, the Republican wing of the Democratic Party), through no acclaimation of the People or Democratic voters, controls the Democratic Party. The DLC, DINOs, are ideologically the moderate Republicans of the 1950s & 1960s. It's a t00l of the corporations, just like Republicans.

Most Democratic voters have no idea what the DLC is or who is in it.

Obama isn't a centrist; he's a neoliberal ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism ). As the president, he heads the national Democratic Party, i.e., he's the defacto head of the DLC. He's a DINO. Obama & Democrats are NOT doing what Democratic voters put Obama & Democrats into power to achieve on their behalf, i.e., undo 30+ years of Republican programming.

You are not limited to voting for just Democrats and Republicans. There are other alternatives besides sitting out the election or voting for Republicans. There are other candidates running as independents, from Green to Libertarian, in just about every race.

Anyone who tells Democratic voters to be quiet, not criticize Obama and Democrats, that you must vote for Democrats because they're "the lesser of 2 ev!ls", should be shouted down, told to cram it, because they're trying to deny voters holding their elected representatives' feet to the fire, to live up to their campaign promises.

Right now, this very period, the weeks leading up to an election (voting's already begun and it may be too late) is the most important, the ONLY time really, when voters have any clout. This is it for making our deals with the candidates. Citizens have little enough of a Constitutionally-guaranteed role within this democracy as it is. We have the right to vote, but not to have our ballots counted. The founders were nothing if not ironic. Our elections every two years is a window period, a time to re-up or opt-in/opt-out.

Vote incumbents out who have failed to achieve on their campaign pledges. For whatever reason, they're not capable of achieving what they claim to be their own and their constituents' shared objectives. Vote against them now or forever (in another 2 years) hold your peace.

Banks aren't only paying a homeowner's delinquent taxes, they're paying the whole of the taxes on what homeowners make monthly payments on (along with their mortgage payment & homeowners' insurance payment) and then turn around and demand payment in full or the homeowner then faces a tax lien and foreclosure.

Banks, by the way, that foreclose on homes are responsible for the property taxes on those homes, but aren't paying them. They've been working out arrangements with the local jurisdictions to defer payment until the homes are sold, and the new owners then become responsible for the back taxes that the banks haven't paid.

It's long past the time any Democrat should give a chit about not antagonizing Republicans. Democrats should have been standing up to Republicans for several decades now, and Democratic presidents should have been investigating and prosecuting Reagan-Bush & Bush-Cheney. When the Pentagon finishes its study on ending DADT in December & tells Congress that it should oppose ending DADT, what do you think Congress & Obama are going to do, no matter whose hands Congress is in?

Do you think that Congress is going to override the Pentagon's recommendation? Do you think Obama is going to ignore the Pentagon's recommendation and end DADT with the stroke of his pen (executive order)?

The largest part of the responsibility at this moment in US history goes to Obama. We each must do what we can, and with what a president can do (a lot), the buck stops at Obama.

There is no higher authority in the US than our government. Three co-equal branches, one of which (the executive branch) has authority and control over most of the US government. It's unconscionable that a president of the United States has allowed any department of government under his authority to practice discrimination. Every day that big0ted government policies like DADT continue is the government giving a nod and a wink to the most ig.no.rant among us, the bullies, & is saying that gays are lesser Americans, not deserving of the full rights and responsibilities of citizens.

When the president obfuscates and avoids doing what he can, what is within his power and ability to do, & end discrimination against one group of Americans, it's a cowardly dereliction of duty.

He's the Role-Model-in-Chief, and it's scandalous.

Obama does not want the judiciary ending DADT. He's said what he wants -- He's counting on Congress repealing DADT. The Senate, specifically. In a lame duck session, with John McCain saying just a week ago that he will filibuster any attempt to bring it back to the floor after it failed to pass two weeks ago.

Be careful what you wish for, putting all eggs in the US Supreme Court basket. Counting on the Supreme Court to declare DADT unconstitutional is a cr@ps shoot.

Just getting the Supreme Court to agree to a Writ of Certiorari is a hurdle. It takes 4 justices. Elena Kagan is going to have to recuse herself, due to her work as Solicitor General in Cook vs. Gates. If the 9th Circuit affirms the 1st Circuit, then Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas or Kennedy have to agree to grant Cert. Not likely.

Obama's words on gay rights do not match his actions. How can you possibly be for gays' rights, and then have your DoJ fight the repeal of DOMA, arguing that gay marriage is comparable to incest and pedophilia?

Democrats have everyone they need, to do the job they were put into power to do for the American people.

During the Bush years, Democrats said if the People wanted change, they had to put Democrats in the majority in Congress. So in 2006, we did. Nothing changed.

Democrats said, "You have to give us more Democrats -- 60 in the Senate". In 2008, we gave them the 60. And the White House.

Obama came into office with the wind at his back. More people voted for him, a black man in America, than ever in the history of the US. They did it because of his ability to persuade that he was going to change the system, end the corporatocracy, lobbyism in government -- He was going to be the People's president, not a corporate t00I.

And no sooner did Obama get elected than he slammed the brakes on the momentum of his election & a filibuster-proof Senate (tentative yet, with 2 senators, Kennedy & Byrd, at d.e.a.t.h's door), Obama did a 180-degree turn on his promises & sloooooowed everything down. To "work in a bipartisan manner with Republicans", after Republicans had already announced they were going to block everything Democrats wanted to do, vote no on everything, in lockstep.

There were many routes to getting real Democratic legislation through, but Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats in Congress refused to do any of them.

Obama's a DINO, & until his 'most ardent supporters' get that, we're d00med.

2. Any REAL Democratic president entering office when Obama did would have used the crises left by the Bush-Cheney administration as an opportunity to repair the damage of 30 years of Republican abuses. Reregulate, nationalize, fair markets instead of free markets. Instead, Obama made unilateral decisions that really weren't his to make. The best example of this I can give you is what he did with healthcare, keeping a for-profit system with the insurance industry as the gatekeeper, and employer-based.

Obama ran on a platform of transparency and citizen-involvement. Then he went behind closed doors, shut out citizens and specific groups representing patients and the healthcare deliverers (physicians & nurses), cut secret deals BEHIND THE PEOPLE'S REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS (undermining the Congressional committees writing the legislation, the same committees he made a big deal about being the ones responsible for the legislation and why he "wasn't getting involved").

Obama l!ed. This was a stunning breach of trust. And it wasn't his first betrayal or last.

Citizens have little enough of a Constituti onally-gua ranteed role within this democracy as it is. We have the right to vote, but not to have our ballots counted. The founders were nothing if not ironic. Our elections every two years is a window period, a time to re-up or opt-in/opt-out.

Vote incumbents out who have failed to achieve on their campaign pledges. For whatever reason, they are not capable of achieving what they claim to be their own and their constituents' shared objectives. Vote against them now or forever (in another 2 years) hold your peace.

Before the decision last week (which Obama could have not appealed, just let DADT d!e), I wrote that Obama can issue an executive order directing the Secretary of Defense to suspend homosexual conduct discharges. As Commander-in-Chief in a time of war, as a matter of national security, he can do basically anything he wants.

Or Obama can end DADT with an executive order (A group of experts in military law concluded Obama can end DADT with the stroke of a pen):

http://www.palmcenter.org/files/active/0/Executive%20Order%20on%20Gay%20Troops%20-%20final.pdf

Congress can continue to work on ending it through legislation, while individuals and groups go about ending it through the courts (the Log Cabin Republicans lawsuit has taken 6 years to get to last week's decision in the federal court; it's nowhere near over).

There's no reason all can't happen simultaneously, and should.

Consumers Win an Important Battle Against Insurers, Thanks to State Insurance Commissioners

ThePeoplesKey wrote this and it was later scrubbed:

Here's the plan I'd like to see: Instead of universal health care I think we should have two health care systems; One for the ig.nor.ant who give priority to profits and free markets over lives, and another for the rest of us without interference from the corporatists. I would gladly not require those

choosing the "for profit" health insurance industry as their provider, not to have to pay taxes to support universal health care. The rest of the "sane" population will pick up the tab.

However, in exchange for your tax break, you forfeit any choice to participate in the universal program for the rest of your life. You can then use the dollars you saved in taxes to bind your wounds and perform surgery on yourself and your loved ones on the steps of the hospital emergency room when the "for profit" insurance industry you worship pulls the rug from underneath you because you failed to read "the fine print" in your insurance policy warning you that they won't pay for any care for you or your family if you get sick or have an accident. Using people such as yourself to set an example of what choice "not to make" would be a Great lesson for future generations.

If Obama didn't have a 'D' after his name, anyone looking at his actions would know that his most ardent supporters' belts don't go through all the loops for supporting what they claim to loathe about Republicans. But the 'D' after Obama's name is a brand they believe & trust (as did I), despite the fact that it's the same 'soap' (product) as what BushCheney gave us. And worse.

I am an old OLD liberal Democrat.

Obama believes in "the process"?

If that was true, Obama wouldn't have blocked investigations and prosecutions into the Bush-Cheney administration.

If that was true, Obama wouldn't have l!ed about leaving healthcare reform legislation to Congress, then undermining the committees working on the legislation by cutting secret deals with Big Insurance, PhRma, Hospitals & the AMA, conceding ground on the left before negotiations ever began (that wasn't his to concede), and leaving liberals out of the process (and out of his administration).

You do know what you're talking about.

Obama is a fraud and a con artist. And 0bama's 'most ardent supporters' are co-dependents, their own (and all of our) worst enemies. They enable Obama's not delivering on his campaign promises. They make it possible for Obama to move the Democratic Party even farther to the right.

I have a lot of respect for myself and I love Obama. What you have forgotten is that he said it would not be easy and that we all have to help. People voted and then went home and expected miracles. If only you had been this hard on Bush and spoke out like you do against Obama...if only.

========== ========== ========== ======

To begin with, if you had done any research on me, you'd know I was Bush's and Cheney's staunchest critic. You've got gall to be accusing me of not being hard on Bush when it's Obama who has given Bush and Cheney and the GOP a pass, blocking all investigations and prosecutions into their war crimes and the economic meltdown.

I really do appreciate your need to believe and trust in a president, a leader, in Obama.

But he's not what you believe him to be, and all of the 'hoping' (propping him and his polling numbers up with words of support) isn't going to "make him do it".

As a matter of fact, keeping his approval numbers high have the opposite effect. They give him permission to bypass his supporters' interests, move the Democratic Party even farther over to the right in order to try to attract Republican politicians (who are being alienated by teabaggers) and their supporters into the Democratic Party.

Nobody expected "magic" from Obama. We did expect honesty, transparency, & have been getting nothing but a snow job.

There can be no democracy, no solutions, no functioning government, without honesty, without trust, when elected officials are Iying, cutting secret deals & then spinning them as something that they're not.

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' (like you) are the most immediate problem, as they help him screw them (& us) over. They keep his personal numbers high. That enables Obama to blow them (& all Democratic voters) off. Until they wake up to these facts, they're their own (& our) worst e n e m ies, and the reason we don't get what we all thought we were voting for when we voted Obama & Democrats into office as the majority power in our government.

During the 2008 campaign, Obama told people that they had to stay involved after the election, that they couldn't just vote for him, go away for four years & expect that he would do what they'd hoped. He said that there were powerful interests working against what the people wanted, and if WeThePeople wanted Obama to do our bidding, we'd have to MAKE HIM DO IT.

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' forget that those of us who criticize Obama are only doing what he warned us needed to be done. NOT to trust him.

Since the election (& even before, with his FISA vote), Obama's given us every reason to distrust & doubt him. He's been deceptive, breaking every campaign pledge & promise, conceding the positions of the left (getting nothing in return), & hobbling real Democrats at every turn while making Republicans & BlueDogs stronger (& harder to beat in 2010 & 2012).

From RachelMaddow's program last week:

== AaronBelkin, an expert on the issue at UC SantaBarbara told the NewYorkTimes that, “Unless the president declines to appeal the ruling in LogCabinRepublicans versus the United States, the ‘Don‘t Ask, Don‘t Tell‘ policy probably will remain law for years.”

Unless you believe the US Senate is going to do the right thing by g@y people. This year, with JohnMcCain still there & a slate of homoph0b!c Republican Senate candidates poised to enter. Unless you believe that the US Senate after this year‘s elections is going to do the right thing by g@y service members, then the decision by the ObamaAdmin istration, whether or not to appeal this ruling, is likely a decision between k!lling this policy now & letting it survive probably forever.

Obama's DoJ appealing this ruling was not an inevitability. The administration is not obligated to appeal. If the administration believes the law is unconstitutional, there's precedent that supports the administration not appealing it & letting the law d!e.

An orderly time frame for the de@th of a law can be arranged with the court. That's the way it is. A plan that has no chance of becoming reality is not a real plan no matter how much you say it is. You can either end it or you can stop saying you will.==

RachelMaddow said it eloquently last week:

=== RobertGibbs said today “The best way to end it is for the Senate to follow the lead of the House of Representatives so that end can be implemented in a fashion that‘s consistent with our obligations in fighting two wars.”

“But absent that action,” he said, “The president, again has set up a process to end this policy. The bottom line is that this is a policy that‘s going to end. It‘s not whether it will end, but the process by which it will end.”

Here‘s the thing: The WhiteHouse line, the line from the administration on this now is that they‘d like the Senate to repeal it. Absent that action, the spokesman said. Absent that action. Absent the Senate voting to repeal it. Absent the moon crashing through the atmosphere & turning us all to green cheese.

Absent that action of the Senate repealing “DADT”, the WhiteHouse says there's an orderly process underway to get rid of the policy. And that orderly process is that the Senate will repeal it? The WhiteHouse is sternly ensuring everyone that the policy will end.

And when you drill down on how they say it will end, they say it will end because the Senate will end it even though the Senate has just chosen not to end it & the Senate is poised to get more conservative not less in the imminent elections.

This is incoherence. ==

Have you seen this?:

Why is our Government Paying To Train Foreign Workers & Then Sending our Jobs Overseas?

In the wake of President Obama's promise to keep more hi-tech jobs in the U.S., a federal agency run by a hand-picked Obama appointee has created a $22 million program to train workers, including 3,000 specialists in IT, in South Asia. After these tech workers are trained, they will be placed with outsourcing vendors that provide business services to American companies looking to take advantage of the Asian subcontinent's low labor costs. This is being run by the US agency for international development, an agency whose mission is to help other nations develop into modern and functional economies in the hope that by raising their standards of living we will also raise the possibility of Democracy in their countries - and make them our friends in the process. In many ways over the years USAID has done a good job of this, helping countries to develop their own manufacturing sectors for their own people. But to use the resources of AID to help Sri Lanka, in this case, build IT and call centers for American countries is quite simply insanity.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that ObamaAndDemocrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like CivilRights protections, restoring HabeasCorpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, WallStreetReform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that BushAndR0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; BushAndR0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching BushAndCheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?

ObamaAndDemocrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them's been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objective.

Politifact has gamed its way of measuring Obama's "promise-keeping"; its categories ('NO ACTION', 'IN THE WORKS', 'STALLED' or 'NOT YET RATED) are misleading. Many a campaign promise or pledge (hundreds of them) has been generously placed in these categories to languish so that Politifact can cut Obama much slack by only recognizing 22 broken promises.

As Politifact claims, "Once we find action is completed, we rate them 'PROMISE KEPT' 'COMPROMISE' or 'PROMISE BROKEN'". By Politifact's own definition, it enables Obama to keep these issues in limbo for 4 years.

One of many examples of Politifact's gaming its list is that Politifact doesn't even list in its "Promises Broken" category Obama's campaign promise to impose 'Windfall Profits Taxes on the Oil & Gas Industry" - Obama immediately reneged on that promise once in office, saying, "The prices have now dropped - We'll see about doing that if or when they rise again." Oil hit over $80/barrel (the amount that, had Obama kept his promise, the windfall profits tax would have been triggered) months ago. Politifact has conveniently ignored this issue.
