The 2012 Speculatron Weekly Roundup For Feb. 10, 2012

Friday, February 10, 2012

Obama came into the WhiteHouse with BushCheneyRepublicans not just on the ropes, but on the mat, down for the count. Obama issued a pardon and let them rise again.

After just one month in the WhiteHouse, instead of going after Republicans and how their failed policies have brought us to the brink of destruction, instead of hammering BushCheneyRepublicans for our economic woes and wars of choice, Obama and RahmEmanuel went after SarahPalin and RushLimbaugh, two people with no role in the RepublicanParty.

Obama and Emanuel never mentioned MitchMcConnell, JohnBoehner, EricCanter, KarlRove, GeorgeW,  H.W., JebBush, Cheney, nobody who is actually in the RepublicanParty as the problem. Obama still doesn't.

The KochBrothers and DickArmey get a lot of press for their role in the TeaParty's rise, but the truth is that they got a lot of help from Obama, RahmEmanuel and the DLC machine.

As the healthcare debate was getting underway and proponents of a PublicOption were bringing pressure to bear on proposed legislation (after Obama arbitrarily snuffed out single payer all on his own initiative), Obama declared it was Congress's job to write the legislation (even though the WhiteHouse was dictating what would be in it through MaxBaucus's committee) and disappeared from the public discussion.

While Teabaggers were punching the fear card by strutting around Townhalls, breaking up the discussions with outrage over 'DeathPanels', and carrying guns openly, members of Congress called off their Townhalls back home, and that was the end of any kind of real, meaningful healthcare for Americans.

Obama could've sent out federal marshals to the Townhalls, used the bully pulpit to issue order and talk about our great American practice of talking through our differences without gunplay.  Instead, Obama unleashed federal security forces to Pittsburgh to break up peaceful protests of the G20 meetingtest out the new weaponry to use on the growing disquieted masses.

Obama and the DLC-controlled DemocraticParty needs the TeaParty.  It lets Democrats keep a legislative agenda to the right of center. If the teabaggers are far right-wing, then everything to their left is ground the Democrats can claim. And that's a lot of corporate-money ground.

Obama: Political Visionary Or Politically Clumsy?

Obama's no better (nor is any DLC-controlled Democratic) than Republicans.  He (like all professional Democrats) is just a different stage than Republicans in the life cycle of an American politician.  Like caterpillars and moths/butterflies.  If you'd never seen a chrysalis or cocoon, you wouldn't know that the caterpillar is actually the same creature as the moth/butterfly, spending half its life crawling on and devouring leaves only to pupate and transform itself into a moth/butterfly so that it can fly around and feed off of other plants.  And sweaters.

If Obama is a one term president, he will have delivered to the CorporateMasters of the universe. He'll hand the baton off to Republicans for the fleecing to continue and go on to reap the benefits from his treacherous betrayal of the People, i.e., the same sort of corporate payoffs that presidents since Gerald Ford have enjoyed.

Over the course of US history, corporations have managed to game our political system, and done it so effectively that the two-party system competes to serve corporate interests while defending that service as, "What's good for GM (corporations) is good for America (the People)".

Democrats and Republicans are corporate tools. Like siblings competing for the attention and approval (campaign contributions) of a parent, Republicans and DLC-controlled Democrats try to outdo each other in delivering for their real constituent, BigCorporations. The trick for them has been to make it seem as if they were really working on behalf of thePeople.

If you must continue to delude yourself into thinking Obama's a good guy who never would've started those wars, and who has only the best of intentions but got a bad deal, think of all this as a business plan where the CorporateMasters of the Universe have charted out their plans years in advance and select the politician/personality best able to achieve those plans in 4 year increments. If you want to l!e the country into war for oil and war-profiteering, then GeorgeWBush is your man to front it (with DickCheney, the former SecretaryOfDefense who initiated the privatizing of the military a decade earlier, actually running the operation from the shadows).

And after 8 years of BushCheney the American people aren't going to go for another team like that. They're going to want HOPE and CHANGE, with a persona they can believe in and trust. BarackObama.

The truth is that Obama is no better than BushCheney. Not better, not worse, but the same. His 'most ardent admirers' just like the packaging better. I'm not talking skin color, although that may be a factor for some of them; I'm talking about how a 'D' after the name is a brand they trust believe and trust in, despite the fact that it's the same 'soap' (product).

9) The 2012 election only matters in the margins.  The question is flavors of disastrous president, there is no president on the menu who will not be a disaster, though obviously Gingrich would be an extra serving of disaster.  For the left, the election is essentially irrelevant.  If you’re focusing your effort on 2012 you’re wasting your time. Focus on 2016.

10)  Greece is going to default.  So is Italy.  So is Spain.  The question is only when.  The Euro is going to contract, the question is only when.  This is almost inevitable.  If Germany actually wanted to avoid this, they’d start spending like mad, buying from the peripheral Euro nations, but they won’t do that, so we’re done.  If I’m wrong, that’s the worse case scenario: not defaulting means economic devastation in all the peripheral European nations, and stagnation everywhere else in Europe.

11) There is only one way things will get better, and that is politicians and bankers and the oligarchs start fearing the population, and believing that the military and police can’t protect them.  The longer citizens insist on being “nice” and letting oligarchs steal their future, beat them, imprison them, take their homes, their jobs and their lives, the longer the oligarchs and their servants will do so.  Why shouldn’t they?

Since populations won’t do what it takes to make the oligarchs fear them, the situation will continue to get worse.  You can have widespread prosperity and democracy, or you can have oligarchs.  You can’t have both. You’ve already made your choice, and until you change your mind, your future is gone.

The Blindingly Obvious About Obama

1)  If Obama wins he will stop pandering to progressives and liberals.  Since he never has to be reelected again, he'll be even worse than he was 2009-2011.  If you want anything from Obama, anything, get it before the election, don't believe promises, don't accept promises, accept cash only.  If Romney or Gingrich wins, well, it’s not going to be any better. SOPA and PIPA will be back in 2013 in some form, so will the pipeline enviros think they’ve killed.

2) Fracking is coming, bigtime, to somewhere near you.  Full steam ahead in 2013.  Bend over and kiss your groundwater goodbye. This is a bipartisan, transnational consensus.

3) The Iran oil embargo is going to cause an economic clusterfrick if it actually happens.  Oil will go up at least $20.  The world (and US) economy can’t take that.

4) Europe’s austerity hasn’t worked.  It won’t work.  It can’t work.  At least if by “work” one means “produce growth and help ordinary people.”  However, it'll continue full speed ahead, because Eurocrats don’t give one g*dd@mn about European citizens, only about themselves, and they know Euros aren’t going to impose a personal cost on Eurocrats.

5) There were coups in both Greece and Italy.  Private interests now run those countries.

6) We're on cruise control for war with Iran.  The oil embargo combined with freezing the Iranian central bank’s assets mean it is, currently, the plan.  Again, the world economy cannot handle an oil embargo against Iran.

7) The key economy in the world is China.  If China crashes, we're done.  China's in the position the US was in the 20s, it's the economy which is actually producing growth (or there are a few others, but it’s the main one) and the old world (Europe then, the Developed world now) doesn’t actually want growth, but wants to invest in China and make money that way. It didn’t work then, it won’t work now.

8 ) Business confidence is the expectation of increased demand.  Austerity is the expectation of decreased demand.  Austerity does not, will not, never has and never will restore business confidence.
