Michele Bachmann Asked If She Is A 'Submissive Wife' At Iowa GOP Debate (VIDEO)

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Of course it's a valid question.  She did something she didn't want to do because her husband wanted her to do it, because her religion told her to submit to her husband's authority over her.

So she either supports separation of church and state (which her base doesn't support) or, by avoiding the question, she's either stupid (for not knowing the definition of submission) or a liar.

Obamas To Vacation In Martha's Vineyard, White House Confirms

After Tuesday's election in Wisconsin, how fortunate that Obama is able to take his family on a luxury vacation.

“One year from now, we have the chance to tell all those corporate lobbyists that the days of them setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more to take on lobbyists than any other candidate in this race - and I've won. I don't take a dime of their money, and when I am President, they won't find a job in my White House. Because real change isn't another four years of defending lobbyists who don't represent real Americans - it's standing with working Americans who have seen their jobs disappear and their wages decline and their hope for the future slip further and further away. That's the change we can offer in 2008.

When I am President, I will end the tax giveaways to companies that ship our jobs overseas, and I will put the money in the pockets of working Americans, and seniors, and homeowners who deserve a break. I won't wait ten years to raise the minimum wage - I'll raise it to keep pace every single year. And if American workers are being denied their right to organize when I'm in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes and I will walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States."

-Candidate Obama, November 3, 2007 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Absent Commander-in-Chief: Who's in Charge Here?

There should be tax HIKES on corporations and the rich.  There should be massive cuts to the military.  Banks should be threatened with nationalization unless they begin lending to small businesses.  There have been 3.5 million home foreclosures but there are 11 million more in the pipeline -- There must be principal write-downs!

Democratic politicians should be beating this drum, loudly and constantly.

Obama and Democratic leadership have already indicated they're on board with Social Security cuts, privatizing, etc. -- Democratic House leader (DCCC),  congressman Chris Van Hollen made an interesting parsing slip on CNN [searchword: "partial"]  about that very point (Van Hollen never was the brightest color in the box; Democratic voters are doomed if this is the future leadership of the party, but then again we're d00med anyway).

How cowardly of Democratic politicians to have left it to outgoing congressman Alan Grayson in the lame duck session to put on a show on the floor of the House about the toys that the rich will be purchasing with their tax cuts.

Has anybody seen the Democratic leadership lately?  Where is Obama?  Where is Harry Reid?  Where is Nancy Pelosi?  Where is Steny Hoyer?  Where is Jim Clyburn?  WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE'S LEADERS???

Come to think of it, where's Elizabeth Warren?  Weren't her supporters, the ones who assured everyone it was just fine for her to take an advisory role to Obama instead of one with teeth, with power, saying we'd be hearing from her all the time, calling Obama and Geithner out?  Now we hear that she's thinking of running for the Senate?  What BS.

Obama's been a quisling from the very beginning.  Pro-corporate, pro-war and military industrial complex.  That's what the DLC is all about.

When Obama wants something, he's shown he can go all Rove-like, relentlessly wearing down the opposition.  The problem is that he and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party don't want what the Democratic voters put them into power to get.

Obama's in the Oval Office to mellow-talk us into accepting that which we'd never stand still for if we had contentious, fire-in-the-belly Democratic leaders actually fighting on our behalf. Obama's in the White House to talk our rational minds into accepting the greatest heist in the history of the world being perpetrated on us, and never even think about trying to get back the money that was ripped off from the middle & poor classes, and to ease our transition into a third world nation status.

Obama is the grifter leading off the second half of the con game, which is to squeeze the rest of the dimes from the poor and middle classes. It began with part 2 of Bush's Medicare Reform Act of 2003 (high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls), and has continued with his push for more *AFTA treaties (outsourcing more Americans' jobs) and the Deficit Commission and now with this 'Super Congress'.

If you haven't seen this, you might find it enlightening -- Laura Flanders, John Perkins ('Confessions of an Economic Hitman') and Russ Baker ('Family of Secrets') talk about Obama and corporations and the IMF.

You don't put Social Security on the table at all before a 'Deficit Commission' (it's not in danger of going broke, to begin with) or put people like this on your commission if you weren't signaling that you're open to doing it.

And Democratic House leadership (DCCC) Chris Van Hollen made an interesting parsing slip on CNN about that very point (he never was the brightest color in the box -- Democratic voters are doomed if this is the future leadership of the party).

Completing the Theft from the Social Security Trust Fund

The Catfood Commission rump report made it crystal clear that the political and financial elites have no intention of ever paying off the bonds held by the Social Security Trust Fund. You thought you were paying excess FICA taxes so that there would be enough money to pay your Social Security in your retirement, but that was never the intention. The intention was to raise your taxes and cut taxes on the rich.

They try to hide this fact behind a barrage of numbers, and shouting flacks, but occasionally, the truth unintentionally leaks out, as here:

"Unless the program can be made to pay for itself, Congress would have to appropriate more than $13 trillion over the next 75 years to make up the shortfall, according to the Brookings Institution."

Of course the program can be made to pay for itself, out of those bonds in the Social Security Trust fund, and with taxes if that becomes necessary in 2037. What kind of idiot is making financial plans for 2037? Our political and financial elites, that’s who, if you can call stealing a plan. They don’t want to pay off those bonds. They want to raise taxes on working people so they will never have to pay off those bonds.

The whole point of every charade version of “strengthening Social Security” is to insure that the income of the system is enough to pay the benefits that are due that year, hopefully with an overage that can be swallowed up in the General Fund and used keep the taxes on the rich at the lowest level since the time whereof the memory of man runneth not to the contrary. The Catfood Commission, the Great Compromise, the Gang of Six, the Chained CPI, and all other plans make it clear that the elites of both parties intend to complete the theft from the Social Security Trust Fund by raising your taxes and/or cutting your benefits.

White House Struggles To Fill Key Watchdog Position To Oversee Afghanistan Reconstruction

For all the good Herb Richardson did.  He was put there to do more of this:

Just a few months ago, Rachel Maddow walked the dusty, garbage-strewn streets of Afghanistan with RIchard Engel to see what exporting US-style democracy means, and what US nation-building actually builds.

Watch this to see where are our tax dollars going, and learn how we are not "nation-building", not making us safer, and not helping the Afghans or building their nation at all (or a democracy). Learn how this has all been just a huge rip-off of the American people:

Obama Criticized Over Credit Rating Downgrade, Debt Ceiling Deal, Jobs, Afghanistan

How Obama has handled the massive problems is EXACTLY how Republicans would've handled them (and how BushCheney was handling them).  Obama's not governing as he had promised or as a real Democrat would have.

The real shame, the real tragedy for all of us is that Obama could have been a transcendent president, good for both business AND the People.  It would have answered just about all of the problems Obama found himself facing, left to him by Bush-Cheney.

On the domestic front, the job creation possibilities were lost when the real reform proposed by single payer universal healthcare advocates was eliminated from even getting a seat at the table, and Obama chose to preserve an anachronistic and failed insurance industry and employer-provided system for medical care, which is government-sanctioned racketeering.

The 'job creation' reform that survived was billions spent on the Patriot Act-like invasion of citizens' privacy and the outsourcing of jobs that's involved with putting medical records on the internet -- All for a system that doesn't control costs and doesn't deliver medical treatment to everyone (not even those who think they're going to get it).

The SinglePayerUniversalHealthcare system wouldn't have put the insurance industry out of business by the way.  It would've been a two-tiered system: Basic coverage for everyone and boutique coverage for those willing to pay for it. So nobody had to worry about poor Big Insurance and Pharma -- There would have been work for all. Big Insurance and Pharma would just had to have made smarter gambles, with no taxpayer bailouts.

With single payer universal health care, there would be more treatment shifted to non-physician practitioners (nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants, and other allied health professionals). Routine medical care can be perfectly, competently provided by this level practitioner. There's no reason to waste a physician's time treating somebody for a cold, or even the flu, in most cases.

It's true that if universal health coverage were to become an official reality, we'd need to expand training programs for both MDs and non-MD providers to insure there were enough to go around, but in the long run it would mean cheaper and more effective service, along with job creation.  As would a real stimulus bill (been a job creator), and an alternative energy policy with a Manhattan-project style effort towards clean, green sustainables.

These are all good things, but Obama and Democrats have chosen the dark side.  The corporate side.

There is NOTHING that George W. Bush did that Democrats didn't sign on to.

Nothing.

Real Democratic politicians have been AWOL since the DLC took control of the Democratic Party 20 years ago.

Until Democratic voters comprehend that, until you learn about the DLC, what and who they are, what they've morphed into (The Third Way, No Labels, etc.), all that voting for Obama and Democrats is going to get us is Republican policies and legislation.

There could be 435 'progressives' in the House and 100 in the Senate, and as long as the DLC (and it's myriad of 2nd generation groups) is calling the shots and funneling the money to them from transnational corporations, all we're going to get is a continuing assault on the American people.
