New MoveOn Ad Warns Of Bleak, Dystopic Corporate Future If Republicans Win In 2010 (VIDEO)

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

The week before & the week after the healthcare bill (or, more accurately, 'The Insurance & Pharmaceutical Industries Windfall Act') passed in the Senate was the one & only time a public option had any chance of happening until another generation passes.

A group of senators had mobilized behind it since the bill had to be passed through reconciliation anyway, & there was no way that Democrats weren't going to get enough of its members to vote against it just because it had a PublicOption in it. Obama nixxed it. What was the reason?

"If the Senate did that, the bill would have to go back to the House for a vote & there's no time!"

After the (allegedly) pro-PublicOption senators accepted that excuse & stood down, Republicans discovered 2 flaws with the bill requiring it's return to the House anyway. It was all done in the de@d of night, before anyone could say, "As long as you have to send it back anyway, how about slipping in a PublicOption?"

The Obama administration will do everything within its power to prevent a public option, public healthcare, and affordable, quality medical treatment for everyone as long as it retains the WhiteHouse, because that was the deal that was made.

Both parties are on the record with very different views on health care.

===============================================

And yet the healthcare legislation just passed is part 2 of the Medicare Reform Act of 2003 -- on steroids.

By the way, after the election, Obama & Democrats in congress are planning on pushing through tort reform, and NOT a public option. There will be NO public option as long as Obama is in the White House. At least. That was the deal he made.

First of all, if you're feeling apathy and disengagement after reading my post, then it's your own inability to come up with answers to my questions. Obama & the DLC have you feeling that, not me. If you can't answer those very simple questions, then you're nothing but a mindless cheerleader for a corrupt administration that is taking the People for a ride.

When the president blocks the left from his administration as Obama has, when he, his CoS and his press secretary hurl insults at the left, rage at the base of the Democratic Party instead of Republicans, and when the legislation from a legislative process that the left was frozen out of doesn't achieve the bare bones of what Democratic voters put Obama and Democrats into power to achieve, that's not "middle ground" -- That's more of the same that the People got from Bush-Cheney.

How many times (back in 2009 and this year) did we hear from the Obama hard-liners "there's plenty of time to go back and get Public Option or Single Payer later" while they defied our warnings of disaster in the mid-terms? Well ... a second go-around ain't gonna happen.

=========================================

It's not going to happen (a public option) because, 1) that was the deal that Obama made with the insurance companies/PhRma/Hospitals/AMA, and 2) getting affordable quality medical care for everyone was NOT the goal of getting that legislation passed.

The goal was a massive corporate giveaway with no cost controls & no universal coverage.

It's Obama & Democrats, behaving like Republicans, putting Social Security on the table for cuts and privatizing by his Debt Commission:

You don't put Social Security on the table at all before a 'Deficit Commission' (it's not in danger of going broke, to begin with) or put people like this on your commission if you weren't signaling that you're open to doing it.

And Chris Van Hollen made an interesting parsing slip on CNN about that very point (he never was the brightest color in the box -- Democratic voters are d00med if this is the future leadership of the party).

When DLC-Democrats don't want something that their supporters want, they make up the most amazing excuses to try to convince their supporters that "We really would like to do that, but our hands are tied by _________."

When it's something that they really want, their hands all of a sudden become untied.

Using reconciliation to get a real healthcare reform bill through is one example. Another is the filibuster (or more accurately, threatening to filibuster versus actually forcing Republicans to filibuster).

Changing the supermajority number is another.

"It can only be done at the beginning of a new congress."

Not true.

It can be done at any time (see page 6 - http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/45448.pdf ).

Do you think that if Republicans take control of Congress next year that the Democratic minority, with greater numbers than the Republican minority has now, will be as effective at thwarting the Republicans as the Republicans have been in thwarting Democrats?

If you say yes, I say, "Where were they during the 8 years of Bush?"

Eight years when Barbara Boxer (an alleged liberal, who campaigned for Joe Lieberman against Ned Lamont) wrote two murder mysteries, because "It was always something I wanted to do if I had the time."

Eight years when Pat Leahy expanded his Grateful Dead collection and got to act in his favorite comic book hero movie, Batman.

Every last Democrat in Congress and the White House are going to do just fine personally, financially, when they're out of office. They will lobby, go on to sit on corporate boards and earn mega-millions.

How about you? How are you going to pay the increased deductibles and co-pays on your health care? How are you going to pay for what your insurance company isn't covering? And when your bank pays your property taxes so that it can turn around and charge you fees, if you can't pay those fees, where are you going to live when your home goes into foreclosure due to their lien?

Just askin'.

I'm an old liberal Democrat. Obama's already broadcast what he & Democrats are going to do if Democrats remain in the majority -- More caving by Obama & Democrats to Republicans:

==According to excerpts from the Times, aides say that the president's been spending "a lot of time talking about Obama 2.0," brainstorming with administration officials about the best way to revamp the strategies & goals of the WhiteHouse.

And despite the predictions that Democrats may relinquish a large degree of legislating power, including perhaps control of the House & even Senate, Obama isn't thinking of the next two years as a period that'll be marked with the same obstructive nature from the GOP.

"It may be that regardless of what happens after this election, [Republicans] feel more responsible, either because they didn't do as well as they anticipated, & so the strategy of just saying no to everything & sitting on the sidelines & throwing bombs didn't work for them," Obama says. "Or they did reasonably well, in which case the American people are going to be looking to them to offer serious proposals & work with me in a serious way."

DickDurbin says Obama's post-election agenda "will have to be limited & focused on the things that are achievable & high priorities for the American people." TomDaschle says Obama has to reach out more: "The key word is inclusion. He's got to find ways to be inclusive."==

No, you've got that all backwards.

Once the vote happens to put you into power, you're past the negative momentum and political culture: You've got your mandate, and if you're legitimate, you run with it. Just like Bush and Cheney did.

Getting elected is the measure of having overcome negative momentum and political culture.

The 2000 election was a stolen one, but Bush & Cheney understood (as do all professional politicos) that when you get the scepter, you don't stand around and ask, "Really? It's mine?"

You run with it.

In lieu of filibustering, members of Congress and political operatives try to put the People off with signing petitions, which is a complete waste of time. Not ONE online petition has moved Obama or Democrats in Congress to do anything.

Do you recall all of the petitions to impeach Bush-Cheney? Florida congressman Robert Wexler couldn't get through a day without constituents and other Democratic voters around the country pushing him to get impeachment proceedings against Bush-Cheney. So he told them: "I've put up a petition online, and when I get 150,000 signatures, I'll file impeachment charges". He thought that would put them off for a while, buy him so time, give him a few weeks. When the 150,000 threshold was met in 5 hours, Wexler upped the number to 500,000. That figure was met within 24 hours, and Wexler took the petition down and was never heard from again on the subject.

Throughout BushCo, there must have been half a dozen times that Democratic congressmen pulled the petition put-off on constituents. All that online petitions are are busywork, to stall, to put the People off, and make People think that they are doing something to change things.

Not all 60 members of the Democratic Caucus are Democrats, but they enjoy perks that come with being in the majority in the Senate (committee assignments, for example, and committee/subcommittee chairs) because they agree to certain conditions.

Bush-Cheney-Republicans, have no problem keeping their caucus members in line, exacting discipline and punishment on those who choose to go against the "shared objectives" of the whole of the Republican Party.

Democrats know this, too, and exact discipline and punishment when it's something that the DLC wants and perceives it needs. For example, when Democrats needed unemployment benefits to continue because the masses were becoming 'critical', Harry Reid had no problem calling Jim Bunning's bluff, forcing him to filibuster, and the GOP caved.

When the DLC-controlled Democrats in Congress are motivated to do the will of the People, they get it done.

They're not motivated, and the reason they're not is because of complacent, forgiving, excuse-making supporters, who either don't know any better or are conflict-phobic or are political operatives spreading disinformation.

If Obama really wanted BlueDogs' votes or JoeLieberman's vote on legislation like real healthcare reform, he would have done to Lieberman & the BlueDogs what he did to DennisKucinich (the last hold-out on the ProgressiveCaucus, all of whom had pledged to vote for a healthcare bill only if it had a public option, and who all caved). Obama flew to Cleveland and rallied Kucinich's constituents against him and he got Kucinich's vote.

Where was that mentality with JoeLieberman, BlancheLincoln, the other BlueDogs and even OlympiaSnowe? If the president of the UnitedStates had used the bully pulpit against them, a lot of progressives would have respected that and said, "You tried your best". But Obama didn't try. Democrats have everyone they need to do the job they were put into power to do for the American people.

During the Bush years, Democrats said if the People wanted change, they had to put Democrats in the majority in Congress. So in 2006, we did. Nothing changed.

Democrats said, "You have to give us more Democrats -- 60 in the Senate". In 2008, we gave them the 60. And the White House.

Obama came into office with the wind at his back. More people voted for him, a black man in America, than ever in the history of the US. They did it because of his ability to persuade that he was going to change the system, end the corporatocracy, lobbyism in government -- He was going to be the People's president, not a corporate t00I.

And no sooner did Obama get elected than he slammed the brakes on the momentum of his election & a filibuster-proof Senate (tentative yet, with 2 senators, Kennedy & Byrd, at d.e.a.t.h's door), Obama did a 180-degree turn on his promises & sloooooowed everything down. To "work in a bipartisan manner with Republicans", after Republicans had already announced they were going to block everything Democrats wanted to do, vote no on everything, in lockstep.

Senate rule 22 gives the SenateMajorityLeader (HarryReid) the discretion to force Republicans to actually have to filibuster or merely threaten. Reid lets them merely threaten.

I suggest that you consider Democrats & Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, & when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, & continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what WeThePeople thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans & all the different ways they've been tricked & start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business -- This current one, because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc., is custom-tailored to Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize they're trying to sell that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do, & that's "a good thing".

What has happened to us was a HEIST. A Crime. And Obama is standing in the way of the cops going after the crooks, recovering the stolen goods, preventing anything like it from ever happening again through the reinstating of the safeguards & oversight which we had for 80 years.

It's like Obama's corporate masters have told him that he's an empty shirt, only there to serve them and keep the People at bay. There's no other way to explain Obama's failure to act on so many different fronts.

Since Obama has gotten into office, he's continued most of Bush's policies & his 'accomplishments' are being spun as "reform" when, in fact, they're Republican in nature.

There could be 100 "progressives" in the Senate & 435 in the House, & they & Obama would still find a way to deliver to corporations instead of the People, & then try to blame it on Republicans.

It's way past time to get the DLC-Democrats out of office, out of the DemocraticParty, & put real Democrats in. That's what we thought we were doing when we put Obama in over HillaryClinton. But in came Obama who put the Clinton team into the WhiteHouse, & not one liberal in his administration. He actually kept liberals neutralized for close to a year (Dawn Johnsen, for example), with vague promises & nomination paralysis (waiting to be confirmed, where they weren't free to speak out about his Republican-ways). No recess appointments, just half-hearted excuses.

Each election cycle where FDR stuck to his liberal guns, more Democrats were elected giving Democrats the majority in Congress. In 1934 Democrats increased their hold on Congress, & that continued every 2 years until the 1937 recession hit (the result of conservatives' success in cutting spending), when Republicans stopped losing seats & gaining them.

Obama came into office with the wind at his back. More people voted for him, a black man in good old r@c!st America, than ever in the history of the US. At least they gave FDR longer than 19 months to fix the Great Depression.

=======================================

"They" gave FDR? Who is "they"? The American people?

Like Obama, FDR came into office with a supermajority Democratic Congress, although not quite as 'robust' as Obama's. But unlike Obama & today's Democrats, FDR began delivering from the git-go. The first 100 days of FDR's presidency are unmatched in terms of the record number of bills he rammed through Congress and signed into law. And unlike now, FDR was flying by the seat of his pants -- There wasn't any precedent for him to follow.

Also unlike Obama, FDR had a plan, a 2-pronged approach to the Depression.

First and foremost, the government provided relief for those who needed it most, i.e., the People, which entailed a redistribution of wealth, from the rich to the poor. Secondly, the government would address the stabilization of the economy through reorganizing banks and creating new government agencies and regulations. If Obama has a plan or a strategy, it's nothing he's sharing.

Let me ask you this:

How will you know if Obama & Democrats (and you, by extension, since you are hiring them with your vote to do your bidding) are successful? By their declaring it?

Newsweek Poll: Obama Approval Jumps, Dems More Fired Up

TRUE change takes TIME...generations. WE have serious problems in our nation, fixing them will require a LONG time and will require strategic planning and voting.

========== ========== ========== ==

This isn't inventing the wheel, toots.

Obama came into office with a clear mandate and more political capital than any president in decades. The only thing stopping him & Democrats was Obama & his will. Or lack of will.

How about you explain what you want and expect changed. Tell me how Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats in Congress are going to accomplish it, and why you think it will take "generations"?

Go ahead, pick something. And I want details. I want you to lay out step-by-step what & how they're intending to change, what has to happen, who has to be brought on board, and the timetable.

Pretend, if you need to, that the federal government is New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina, and General Russell Honore's brain has been transplanted into Obama's body.

Start.

He doesn't share your opinion.

He's blocked all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney-Republicans. He's continuing most of the Bush-Cheney policies, and even keeps the Bush-Cheney appointees on.

And to top it all off, he came into office with more political capital than any president in the past 30 years, to undo at least the previous 8 years (if not the previous 30). What did he do? He sabotaged all efforts to achieve what the People wanted, after Republicans had already made it clear they weren't going to cooperate in a bipartisan effort.

You're going to have to wake up sooner or later. Obama's a t00L, no different than the GOP.

Obama Assails GOP On Clouded Final Campaign Push

It's what DLC-Democrats' supporters claim -- That the DLC may be ev!l, but "it's the lesser of 2 ev!ls". For the first few years after the DLC took control over the Democratic Party, there was room for doubt. But there hasn't been for a long while now.

And after 8 years of Bush-Cheney, Obama came into power with a golden opportunity (a catastrophic crisis) to get through sweeping change that Democratic voters put Obama & Democrats into power to achieve on their behalf, i.e., undo 30+ years of Republican programming.

For Obama to have blown it, and how he blew it, says everything about his and the DLC's real intentions. If they didn't come into office in 2009 after what was left for them, with all gvns firing, if they didn't move instantly to reregulate (forget about nationalizing...) and stop the wholesale privatization (and so much more), then it's nothing that Obama & the DLC Democrats are ever going to do. Not any part of it.

Obama Assails GOP On Clouded Final Campaign Push

Is that a surprise to you? That Republicans would try to impeach Obama, do everything they can do to obstruct?

Didn't you know this the last election? And the election before? And the election before that? And 2002, and 2000?

Why then have you supported Obama's and Democrats' not playing hardball? Why do you support their not investigating and prosecuting Bush-Cheney-Republicans? Why are you complacent about Obama's and Democrats' not investigating & prosecuting the economic meltdown? And then there's BP and the Gulf.

Why would you vote for Democrats when they've already broadcast that they're going to cave more to Republicans, even if they retain control of Congress?

House Candidates To Spend Over $1 Billion On Elections

I've been voting the lesser of two ev!ls (DLC Democrats) since the DLC took over the DemocraticParty in the late 1980s.

I have watched the DLC take the DemocraticParty farther to the right each election cycle, promising change & reform, blaming the lack of it on voters for not electing enough Democrats liberals progressives, all the while the party leaders are bankrolling pro-corporate DINOs over true liberals & cooperating with Republicans in Congress.

Never are the party leaders using the bully pulpit of their offices to educate or inform the American people as to the great traditions of liberal Democracy & how the People have prospered under liberal Democrats.

Currently, this DINO of a president has continued just about all of the Bush-Cheney policies & gone Bush-Cheney one better in several areas. Civil rights abuses that Bush & Cheney could only fantasize about, never dare try, Obama's doing.

How does any Democratic voter defend Obama after he asserts he has the right to k!ll any American citizen without due process or oversight? And 'preventive detention'? And Obama's claims of 'state secrets' to deny courts even look at his a$$a$$ination program?

I'd like some enterprising reporter or audience member at one of these appearances to ask Bill Clinton if he's for reinstating Glass-Steagall.

I already know his answer, but I think Democratic voters need to hear it.
