Why Obama Should Put BP Under Temporary Receivership

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Nobody really knows what the story with the plumes is, other than a really big problem, bigger than had no dispersant been applied. It's most likely lots of toxic cr@p (Corexit itself) that has broken the oil into tiny droplets suspended in seawater.

"People who have had significant careers in energy have speculated that it need not be a strategy that is confined to surface collection, but by using powerful pumps and 'smart pipe', could be utilized at various depths to retrieve the spreading oil."

Here's your own source, John Hoffmeister on it:

Why Obama Should Put BP Under Temporary Receivership

I appreciate the distinction you're trying to make ("spill" vs. "leak"), but a sucking is still sucking, whether you're doing it above or below the surface of the water.

Let's put Saudi Arabia's disaster in some perspective; it was 65 times the size of the Exxon Valdez.

Now let's do some math.

About two weeks ago, scientists studying video of the gushing oil well have tentatively calculated that it could be flowing at a rate of 25,000 to 80,000 barrels of oil a day. The latter figure would be 3.4 million gallons a day. Even though latest estimates are anywhere from 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day, let's go with the worst case scenario -- 80,000 barrels (3.4 million gallons) a day.

A supertanker can hold 85 million gallons of oil.

Al Gore, Tipper Gore Separating After 40 Years Of Marriage

Those govt jobs cut in the Fed govt workforce were overwhelmingly from the Defense Dept., and they had nothing to do with any streamlining championed by Gore, they were from the BRAC processes performed over the course of both the previous Bush admin and Clinton's. His "taking on" govt waste produced NOTHING, except a photo op with the aforementioned forklift.

======================================

By 2000, Gore's Reinventing Government initiative saved $137 billion, eliminated 16,000 pages of regulations, eliminated 640,000 pages of redundancies in internal rules, and reduced the federal workforce by more than 350,000 (down to the size it was when JFK was President).

All of government's work force was reduced -- The EPA, Dept of HHS (by 5%), Dept of Housing & Urban Development (by 25.8%), GSA (by 31.5%), DoD (by 25%, and that was from downsizing the size of the military), Office of Personnel Management (by 48%), with the Justice Department growing (as a result of hiring new prison guards).

You've got to be a whacked-out, extreme far-right fringe conservative disinterested in facing facts to believe Clinton and Gore were liberals, or big-spenders, or into increasing government -- Both were fully on board with privatization, deregulation, and corporatization of America, much to the consternation and condemnation of knowledgeable liberals.

Al Gore, Tipper Gore Separating After 40 Years Of Marriage

Gore does have a heckuva reputation for being a notorious cheapskate. With HIS money, mind you, never with the taxpayers!

===========================================

Care to provide us with an example of Gore's spendthrift ways with taxpayer money?

Gore was put on the Clinton ticket because he was to the right of DLCer Clinton, both fiscally and socially.

As VP, Gore took on waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government & advocated trimming the size of the bureaucracy & the number of regulations. Following a pattern set during his years in Congress, Gore held town meetings with federal employees to explain his objectives & listen to their suggestions. He consulted with cabinet secretaries on ways to streamline their departments. He appeared on late-night television, wearing safety goggles & smashing an ash tray with a hammer to poke fun at the Pentagon's requirement for an expensive "ash receiver, tobacco, desk type" that would break into fewer than thirty-five pieces. After a six-month study, Gore & Clinton stood together on the WhiteHouse lawn in September 1993, with two forklifts piled high with federal regulations. Gore's report, From Red Tape to Results: Creating a Government That Works Better and Costs Less, made 284 recommendations for paring down & reenergizing the bureaucracy. Implemented by executive order & legislation, the proposals reduced the federal workforce by a quarter of a million jobs, to its lowest level in forty years.

It's one thing not liking Gore (I've got my own beefs with him), but Iying BS like yours
