Nearly 59 Million Americans Lack Health Insurance: CDC

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Rumors of the Democrats having no spines are greatly exaggerated.

Just like Obama's timidity is myth; he's plenty tough when it comes to standing up to the Democratic base.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama & Democrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like CivilRights protections, restoring HabeasCorpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, WallStreetReform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that Bush & R0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush & Cheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?

Obama & Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them's been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to achieve our alleged shared objectives.

Getting Democratic voters to understand that Democratic politicians have been taking us all for id-jits is the problem & the challenge.

No, it isn't.  What Obama did was preserve the crooked system of the insurance industry as the gatekeeper to medical care.  That is the problem that is keeping medical treatment from being affordable, and universal for all citizens.

Let the Republicans do the heavy lifting -- They're motivated now; let them fight the institutions (insurance, PhRma, AMA, Hospitals).

If this isn't repealed first, there will be no money for a single payer system.  It'll all have gone into the pockets of Big Insurance & PhRma.

A "whole new one", by the way, would be to lower the age of Medicare.

It's not easy, but it isn't impossible.  What choice do you have?  Do you really think that they ever give up?  That the rich are ever satisfied with holding 98% of the world's wealth?

You've got to look at this like your life depends on it.  Because it does.

Dylan Ratigan, Glenn Greenwald, and Cenk Uygur talked the day after the elections last week about this very issue, the Obama presidency, progressives and the Democratic Party.

Watch it and see if you don't agree:

YOU (we all) make it happen.

There are certain lessons that that we have failed to learn in the past decade, that bear repeating over and over again.

One is that if George W. Bush managed to make it to the White House, then anybody can become president.

Another is that Democrats are the flip side of the same coin that Republicans are on -- Both parties work for Big Business.

I have absolutely no problem with Republicans repealing this massive piece of corporate welfare that doesn't begin until 2014.

Democrats can then run in 2012 on single payer universal health care or expanding Medicare to cover everyone.

Republican Investigators Take Aim At Health Care Law

Obama Confirms Strategy to Introduce a Republican Reform Model:

OBAMA: Well, partly because I couldn’t get the kind of cooperation from Republicans that I had hoped for. We thought that if we shaped a [health care] bill that wasn’t that different from bills that had previously been introduced by Republicanincluding a Republican governor in Massachusetts who’s now running for President—that, you know, we would be able to find some common ground there. And we just couldn’t.

Bush wrote that the-then Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, asked him to bomb Syria in 2007, that he discussed the idea with senior officials but did not pursue it because "bombing of a sovereign state without warning or justification would greatly affect the prestige of the United States".

British officials said today there was no evidence to support claims by George Bush, the former US president, that information extracted by "waterboarding" saved British lives by foiling attacks on Heathrow airport and Canary Wharf. In his memoirs, Bush said the practice – condemned by Downing Street as torture – was used in CIA interrogations of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

He said Mohammed, below, was one of three al-Qaida suspects subjected to waterboarding. "Their interrogations helped break up plots to attack American diplomatic facilities abroad, Heathrow airport, and Canary Wharf in London, and multiple targets in the United States," he wrote.

The most recent Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll finds that the percentage of Americans who think the new health care law will make their lives and their families’ lives better is at an all time low. Only 25 percent think it would personally make their lives better while 31 percent think it would make them worse off;  34 percent think it would make no difference.

Among mid-term voters, a majority (56%) would like to see the law repealed entirely or in part.

The Bush tax cuts were created for the sole purpose of jumpstarting a recession that Bush claimed to have inherited from Clinton.

For the record, Bush didn't inherit a recession from Clinton.

The very day after the US Supreme Court decision that gave Bush the presidency, Cheney took to the air waves and started talking down the economy, suggesting (and actually dropping the word "recession" into his comments) we were embarking on a recession.

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/12/04/whitehouse.cheney/index.html

Presidential administrations don't do that unless they are hoping it will spur one; the mere whisper of the word can be so powerful as to undermine consumer confidence which causes people to stop spending, which was Cheney's purpose for doing it.

Cheney wanted to undermine confidence in order to drive the economy into a recession because the Bush administration needed a rationale for the tax cuts for the rich that they had promised during the campaign (instead of using the projected surplus from the Clinton administration for shoring up Social Security), or putting the money away for a 'rainy day' (like, should you find yourself in a war).

From that day in December, 2008 and for each day thereafter, Bush & Cheney created an impression of a worsening economy until it actually became a reality.  They got into the White House on 1/20/01; economists have dated the beginning of the recession to 3/01:

http://mediamatters.org/research/200405010002

Congress needs to come up with new legislation having NOTHING to do with the Bush legislation.  Let the Bush legislation d!e.  Let the Democratically-controlled Senate come up with progressive tax cut legislation, for the poor (payroll deducations) and middle-classes, if there are to be any.  Let Republicans vote it down or prevent it getting to the floor.  Let them run on that in 2012.

This cross-contamination, of legislation, of one administration's policies to the next, is abzurd.  It's intended to confuse the American people, and as you can tell from the knee-j#rk j#rks' reactions to the fact that Bush & Cheney created a recession to jam through tax cuts for the rich, it works.

BushCo's "crimes" were legalized and that's my point.
==========================================

You're saying things that just aren't true.

And when you say, "I just like detail and specifics too much", had you used the links I provided, you would have gotten the information you sought (the crimes) and why your belief that "Bush's crimes were legalized" just isn't true.  I don't know where you get such a notion.

But more importantly, when you brush aside links provided to you, and then want a custom-tailored reply, it's the height of arrogance, an exaggerated sense of entitlement, and disrespect for others' (my) time and effort.
I did you a kindness, a service.  I culled together information, d@mned good information, pre-screened for entertainment and educational value, to appeal to a broad age group (I have no idea how old you are), and apparently you expect that I translate or transcribe it for you.

Had my intention been to hurt your feelings rather than to get your attention about repeated demands & ingratitude, I would have spoken my mind much more directly and harshly.  You committed the offense, you compounded it, and then when boundaries are drawn and shown to you, you complain that you're the injured party.

Yours is an interesting way to be in the world.

Bush On TARP: I Couldn't Have Lived With Myself If Country Suffered Second Depression

By the way, about Clinton & Nixon's prosecutions:

Nixon wasn't prosecuted or indicted for anything.  Ford pardoned him (at the urging of Cheney & Rumsfeld, his CoS and former CoS, both of whom schemed to isolate Ford from his trusted advisers) before charges could be filed Nixon, to prevent even more coming to light through investigation.

It's entirely possible that the last 30 years never would have happened, that we never would have had conservatives wrecking our lives had there been thorough, complete investigations into that administration at the time, instead of letting them return to government posts.  Cheney & Rumsfeld came from the Nixon administration, and George H.W. Bush was the head of the RNC at the time.

Those in Nixon's administration who were indicted, prosecuted, convicted, etc., were charged with a whole array of crimes, all which pale in comparison to what's been done these past ten years.

Bush On TARP: I Couldn't Have Lived With Myself If Country Suffered Second Depression

"I won't argue that healthcare reform was everything I dreamed of. But the things that it did accomplish are wonderful. Yes we didn't get the brass ring, but change can take generations. I tend to agree that completely scrapping the existing private system in place of a public system would be too much for the system to handle in one fell swoop. The journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step and over the last two years we've moved leaps and bounds."
========================================================

You absolutely, positively, don't know what the h3ll you're talking about.

What Obama did was preserve the crooked system of the insurance industry as the gatekeeper to medical care.  That is the problem that is keeping medical treatment from being affordable, and universal for all citizens.

Now if you had listened to, watched those links, you would know why that's so.  But you are stuck in believing something that is NOT in your interest whatsoever.  Unless, of course, you're in the insurance/PhRma industries or a political operative paid to spread disinformation, in which case your comments are in your immediate (as in now, this week's paycheck) interest, but not in your health's interest.

You're spouting the White House's talking points list (auto industry, banking industry, etc.), and the real joke is that with the exception of extending SCHIP, everything else on your list was a bamboozle.

The finance reform legislation wouldn't have prevented the economic meltdown and does nothing to prevent future ones.  It's abzurd that you believe the rhetoric.  It only tells me that you don't know what's in the legislation and you don't know it's already been debunked a hundred different ways.  It's why the Democrats did not run on accomplishments -- They really don't have any.

The first time homebuyers' tax credit is a joke because the banks aren't lending money !   For a short period of time, it gave the false notion that the economy had rebounded, but the very few who were able to get home loans did and the banks shut down lending, the economy dipped some more.

The cash-for-clunkers was a dismal failure!  The cars that customers purchased after dropping off their clunkers were FOREIGN cars.  It spurred other countries' economies, not ours.  And the clunker part of the program?  It sent the used car business into a nose dive.  Those clunkers would have normally been purchased for their inventory for resale.

Are you starting to comprehend that you don't know what you're talking about?

Bush On TARP: I Couldn't Have Lived With Myself If Country Suffered Second Depression

We didn't get healthcare reform; what Obama did was get a corporate welfare program disguised as healthcare reform past the People and into the law of the land.

I think Lawrence O'Donnell & Company explain it very well, but I can get others if these aren't to your liking:
http://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/8/96U-7lILbXchttp://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/1/VaKV2gGjEpkhttp://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/3/230taWZe3d4http://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/4/tez2u5UFCqAhttp://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/12/cp6PP7R_9lshttp://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/15/qd6GTgUlNWshttp://www.youtube.com/user/keithmsnbcer#p/search/22/_UniUQmEeaI

Did Obama, who ran a pitch-perfect campaign to victory in 2008, use his oratorical skill to shape the healthcare debate?

Did he use his unique ability to communicate, an ability that got more voters than ever before in the history of the nation to vote for him (a black man, in good old rac!st America, because they believed he could end corporations' grip on government & return the government to the People), to intervene & interrupt these kinds of disruptive tactics, and bring reason and order and humanity to the decision-making process?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ik4f1dRbP8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwiKGjM5tHU

He didn't because what teabaggers were doing at Town Halls was what he & the DLC-controlled Democratic Party wanted to have happen. To get the pro-insurance & pharmaceutical industries kind of healthcare legislation that was passed, and not the real healthcare reform that he & Democrats were put into power to achieve.

Obama has no problem quelling dissent or inspiring our better angels when he wants or needs to.  And the only people Obama has ever battled are progressive and liberal Democrats.

This isn't a vendetta; this is what is done to prevent that which seems to be your greatest concern -- Wasting taxpayer monies.

Everything that BushCo must be prosecuted for, what they did, was to rob us blind!

I can't help that you just don't get it, that you refuse to believe that there was anything but noble intentions in the Bush-Cheney wars.  You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but you do NOT get to let them rob the rest of us blind!

You can choose to be the biggest chump in the world with your own money and your own loved ones' lives, but you don't get to let them do it to me and my loved ones.

If you're so flippin' sure that everything is on the up-and-up, then get the h3ll out of the way and let the investigations begin.  Because without sunlight and transparency, there is an avalanche of evidence that supports these were crimes, high crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes against the American People.

While you're waiting:

#2 - Impeachment and removal from office is a separate issue.  And I'd recommend that impeachment be done, even if removal from office is moot.  Impeachment stands as the ultimate rebuke by a Congress, that the crimes of a president will not be tolerated or allowed to stand.  It is a powerful and necessary statement that a nation must make, not just to the People of that nation, but to the People of all nations.  Especially this nation, after our 'misadventures' (crimes) against humanity and as the purveyor of democracies around the world.

Why is George W. Bush being allowed to crawl back into polite society to rehabilitate his image and the Bush family name?

Why isn't he having to spend 24/7 with his lawyers, working on a way to stay out of prison?

Oh, that's right, I forgot: Because Obama and the DLC-Democrats have blocked all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney and Republicans, and have allowed them to resurrect themselves and take back control over government.

And because of Obama's failure to restore the Constitution and return us to the rule of law, by holding Bush, Cheney, et al, accountable, JEB Bush was all over the news on election night as the man behind Florida's new Tea Party Senator, Marco Rubio. So expect a Jeb Bush run at the presidency in the not-to-di tant-future. Perhaps with Liz Cheney on the ticket with him.

This is Obama's fault -- The buck stops squarely at his feet.

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastation that Bush-Cheney had caused the nation. And Obama issued Bush-Cheney and Republicans (essentially) a pardon.  None of them express any remorse or contrition.  As a matter of fact, they're rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-and-dicing Social Security, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that would help the People.

And even now, Obama wants to continue to make nice with them, cave some more, water down Democratic values & legislation.

Obama's not any kind of real Democrat; he's a DINO.

And if you didn't like the Republican Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 10), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

Like next month when Obama's Debt Commission proposes Social Security cuts & privatization, and Obama goes along.  Because he's already announced that if 14 of the 18 can agree on a plan, he's on board.  All 18 on the commission support privatizing the Social Security trust fund.

Bush On TARP: I Couldn't Have Lived With Myself If Country Suffered Second Depression

It almost would have been worth it, to not have Bush live with himself.

"But the situation could have been a lot worse."

The company line.

It's starting to have that, "Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life" ring to it.

George Bush On Fox News' 'Hannity': Tea Party Shows 'Democracy Working,' Jeb Bush Should Run In 2012

My mother died on January 1, 2005.
============================

How unfortunate, to d!e before she completed a parents' primary job:   Raising a fully functioning, self-sufficient and independent child to adulthood.

It does explain the expectation of 'spoon-feeding'.

We're coming up to some very hard times.  I'd be doing you no favor if I did this for you.  Had I known the degree to which you've already been failed by the adults responsible for your raising and education, I wouldn't have even done the basic research of getting you those links.  I'd have, perhaps, pointed you in the direction of google and some search words to develop the necessary skills, or just passed your post by, let you inevitably sink and drown (as Darwin theorized, "struggle for existence", "survival of the fittest", etc.).

I'd hop to it and read those links; even my 8 year-old grandson can list BushCo's crimes.

Dylan Ratigan, Glenn Greenwald, and Cenk Uygur talked the day after the elections last week about this very issue, the Obama presidency, progressives and the Democratic Party.

CIA Interrogation Tape Destruction Will Result In No Charges

"While it’s true that the release of additional Abu Ghraib photos would jeopardize the safety of American troops worldwide, and further contribute to the destabilization of a region deemed strategically necessary, few republican leaders, however, spoke out to condemn the use of torture when it was actually occurring; instead, they backed away and, when pressed to respond, dismissively described the torturous acts as inconsequential, isolated, and attributable to a few rogue soldiers acting with no official endorsement, which Bush knows is untrue. In fact, the decision to use torture originated deep within the murky recesses of the Bush Whitehouse. So, at this juncture, republicans are attempting to rewrite their epilogue, abdicate culpability, and distance themselves from the atrocities attributable to the Bush years, a corrupt period in history when republicans controlled both houses of Congress, succumbed to barbarism, abandoned integrity, and wrongly believed their power to be unassailable and without consequence."
=============================================

All true.

And Republicans & Bush have gotten a great big assist from the unlikeliest of places -- A Democratic president and a Democratically-controlled Congress.

This is what Obama did last year when the judicial branch of the United States ordered Obama to release the photos (as Obama had pledged to do as a candidate in 2008):

He used Joe Lieberman to slip into legislation expanded powers for the Secretary of Defense to circumvent (gut) the Freedom Of Information Act and bury forever the photographic evidence of the t0rture & abuse of uncharged, unconvicted, detainees in US custody.

[This is a copy of a comment that got scrubbed, and was meant to preceed the comment it appears after.]

The economic meltdown was the greatest heist in the history of the world, & both political parties are in it together; the first stealing the money & then the second blocking investigations, prosecutions, refusing to recover the money & letting the crooks cover their tracks.

What People want & expect is that when they're ripped off the police will apprehend the perps & try to recover the property. Obama & Democrats are NOT doing that.
It would be one thing if Obama were restringing the social safety nets cut under Clinton so that the People (most of whose life savings have been wiped out) were assured a roof over their heads & food to eat.
     But he's not.

Instead, Obama's setting up the Great Heist's parts 2, 3 & 4, which are to squeeze the last dimes out of the middle & poor classes, with the privatization of SocialSecurity & cuts to SocialSecurity & Medicare benefits, high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls (or guarantees of coverage, or universal coverage), & the outsourcing of more Americans' jobs with the coming *AFTA treaties that Obama & the *new* Republican Congress are going to pass.

There can be no fixing this mess, no trusting these b*stard politicians, no "looking forward", until there is "looking back"investigating & prosecuting & RESTITUTION.

Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats are as crooked as Republicans & BushCo.  Instead of borrowing money 'in our names' from China & the Saudis, & draining (bleeding) the Treasury, our money, into the banks & the offshore bank accounts of the rich, retire THE PEOPLE'S debt.

Do you know what Issa wants to investigate?  Obama's offers of jobs in his administration to Joe Sestak & Andrew Romanoff to lure them out of running in the 2008 elections against incumbents.
The DNC should be investigating that; not the  US Congress.

Any investigations by Darrell Issa and Republicans will be for purely political partisan purposes, meant to paralyze Democratic voters and stymie the business of WeThePeople and not the DLC-Democrats' agenda (which is in line with Republicans' agenda -- Serving the transnational corporations).

Issa's stalking of Obama's administration would have NOTHING to do with getting at the truth of matters relating to the American People (the robbing of Americans' treasure, the decimation of the middle class, restitution of Americans' fortunes, restoring the Constitution, exposing the truth of these wars for empire, etc.).  Issa's investigations would be for advancing Republicans' politically.

It would be no different than the 8 years that Republicans launched one investigation after another into the Clintons.  It's effective in bringing the People's business to a standstill & getting only that business done that Republicans & DLC-Democrats agree on (pro-corporate giveaways and the dismantling of the FDR/LBJ New Deal-Great Society).

Issa's investigations, like the Republicans' before him led by Dan Burton during the Clinton administration, are meant to 'stun gun' Democratic voters into coalescing around their president.  Republicans don't mind being the bad guys, as long as they are able to get what they came to do done -- Drowning government in the bathtub.  That works, too, for DLC-Democratic politicians, as it gives their constituents someone else to blame for Democrats failing to deliver on their campaign pledges: "The Republicans did it."

I don't know what you think was so miraculous about what Obama did.  It was pretty stu.p!d, actually, funneling money to banks with no strings whatsoever:  No agreement on regulations, no agreement on loans to the People.  That's when & where you put hooks in contracts -- When they're over a barrel.  Not after they've been bailed out.

But it's like every other agreement that Obama's made on behalf of WeThePeople: Either he's really inept or he's corrupt to the core, but you can't have it both ways.
Who makes a contract with BP that's verbal & non-securitized?  It's taken forever to get BP to live up to the first installment, and even then they're 'light' ($3 billion).  And BP is actually blackmailing us, saying that unless BP is allowed to continue risky & dangerous deepwater drilling (& despite its $40 billion in profits this year alone), "We won't be able to pay any more."
And the contract Obama made secretly with Big Insurance/PhRma/AMA/Hospitals behind the backs of those congressional committees working on healthcare reform legislation with real cost controls (public option)?  The People got scr3wed royally in that one.

You tend to your comments, and I'll tend to mine.
Talk about "deflecting", I can think of no bigger waste of time than to complain about Bush while trying to silence those trying to break the gridlock protecting him.  This country won't be getting back on course until those responsible for the greatest heist in our history, and the annihilation of the middle class are brought to justice.  Those with the power are protecting Bush & Cheney, and continuing their policies.
So don't give me this BS about Obama.
Keep it up and you're an accomplice of (and as guilty as) BushCo.

If Bush was so bad (and I think he is), why is Obama blocking all investigations and prosecutions into the Bush-Cheney administration?
Perhaps if Bill Clinton hadn't done the same thing for the Reagan-Bush administration, we wouldn't have been saddled with Bush-Cheney at all.

And Obama wants to continue to play nice with them.

Obama's not the Democrat that you think he is. He's not any kind of Democrat; he's a DINO. And if you didn't like the Republican Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 8), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

Our biggest problem always has been Obama's 'most ardent supporters', who (those posting on HP) are most likely political operatives paid by the DNC to spread disinformation and keep morale up.
There's no way to win against Republicans unless you fight Republicans.
Obama has set one bad precedent after another.  He's got to investigate and prosecute BushCo.  Unless he does, this noble experiment is over, and you might as well pick out a curb with a view now.
