Gulf Oil Spill (PHOTOS): Animals In Peril

Thursday, June 3, 2010

If I lived there, I would be helping rescue the animals and cleaning them with soap and water.

And then what? Let them go, to get covered in it again?

BP CEO Tony Hayward New Oil Disaster Ad: Sincere Or Damage Control?

Thanks. I think.

I don't know what in that changed your mind. Or if you're saying that you're now too bitter& pessimistic.

I would enjoy nothing more than being able to say Obama and Democrats are doing a great job. I would have loved to have said that about Bush & Cheney, too, (ok, I wouldn't have loved it, but I would have done it anyway, grudgingly). But to have said that about Bush & Cheney would have meant they were governing & legislating as Democrats. Or as Democrats are supposed to govern & legislate, on Democratic policies.

Obama and the DLC-controlled Democratic Congress are not governing/legislating as Democrats.

If anybody should have been acting like Obama (bipartisanship) it should have been Bush & Cheney after being handed the keys to the White House by one Supreme Court justice's vote. But they didn't and after 8 years of extreme corporate rule, voters handed Republicans their hats. Obama and Democrats were given a clear mandate to govern and legislate as Democrats.

But Obama is behaving as if the message of the 2008 election was that voters liked the results of Bush-Cheney-Republican-years, just not their style.

Can anybody deny that? And does anybody believe that's what voters intended when they put Obama and Democrats into power?

Bush's Glib Waterboarding Admission Sparks Outrage

The only way to hold Bush and Cheney responsible is by holding Obama's feet to the fire.

Obama's the one protecting Bush and Cheney, keeping them from facing prosecution and enabling them and their supporters (neocons and cons, and Republicans) to return to the public arena (if not return to power again in the White House & Congress).

Democratic voters should have said to Obama and the DLC-controlled Congress, "You're either with us or with them, the REAL terror!sts".

Bobby Jindal Asks Obama To End Moratorium On Deepwater Drilling

In addition to Bobby Jindal's request today, we've already seen Mary Landrieu make a pitch for more drilling the very day after this disaster began. Obama hasn't shut down BP's other operations in US waters (Atlantis is potentially a worse nightmare than Deepwater Horizon and is still operating in the Gulf of Mexico, and according to reports last night, BP is moving ahead with drilling in the arctic).

If Louisiana's industries are 1) oil, gas, chemicals, and 2) fishing and tourism, and fishing and tourism is destroyed, how else is Louisiana going to make up the state's lost revenues if not by increasing offshore drilling?

And if BP were held responsible, 100%, for the damage & went bankrupt, the costs would fall to the US taxpayer (or it wouldn't be paid or cleaned up at all). Other oil conglomerates would step up & reap the benefit of unlimited drilling in a ruined Gulf of Mexico.

Bobby Jindal Asks Obama To End Moratorium On Deepwater Drilling

Incidentally, Obama does not support any of the mechanisms that would prevent another collapse (sure to happen in the coming months/years), and he's blocked investigations and prosecutions into what happened.

In assessing all of Obama's actions to date, the only explanation that fits is that he's in there to ease America's transition to a third world economy, getting us ready for the big liquidation sale and bankruptcy.

Not long ago, someone tried to argue that BP has a vested interest in getting that well capped ASAP as they are liable for the environmental damage that will be caused.

At a certain point, when enough oil and gas has gushed, that becomes moot.

I facetiously argued that BP doesn't really have a vested interest in getting it done ASAP. Aside from the cap of $75 million & a reasonable expectation of a favorable outcome from any judgments against them in US courts (the judiciary branch of government stacked with corporate wh.ore.s that let corporations game the system to escape justice), an argument can be made that by destroying the entire region ecologically, BP & all pro-drilling interested parties (politicians included) can & will push for an increase in offshore drilling increase, "since it's all ruined anyway".

Bobby Jindal Asks Obama To End Moratorium On Deepwater Drilling

Blowouts in shallower depths are no safer, the gush of oil and gas no easier or faster to stop than in deeper waters.

The Ixtoc blowout in 1979 was shallow depth, as was the Australian blowout last year. Both gushed for months, uncontrollably, until relief wells were drilled. Relief wells take MONTHS to drill, and FYI: There are no relief wells on any of the thousands of wells in the Gulf of Mexico.

The only fixes that have ever worked to stop oil and gas from gushing are relief wells and bombs, and neither is guaranteed.

In yesterday's news:

After an oil well blowout caused by reckless disregard destroys the Gulf of Mexico & a region of the US, the company that caused it is moving ahead with drilling in the arctic, with the blessing of the government.

Nowhere do the actions of the ObamaAdministration make any rational sense, except perhaps down a rabbit hole in a book by LewisCarroll.

George W. Bush Defends Waterboarding: Would Waterboard Khalid Sheik Mohammed Again

^ - Exhibit A for why investigations and prosecutions of the Bush administration must take place.

To silence forever the defenders of the Bush Administration and torture, and prevent it (and worse) from ever happening again.

In a democracy, We the People are the government. We can't escape the blowback, we can't turn out backs and pretend that we've had no part in what our government does to others in our names.

BP Turned Away Help From James Cameron

Was it too much to hope for, a Democratic presidential administration run with the same Swiss-clockwork precision of the BushAdministration, but for the American people's best interests, for our well being & prosperity, instead of the Corporations?

Is Obama no better than Bush & Cheney (& the Clintons), just more adept at deceiving worn-down, gullible, desperate-to-trust Americans?

We're in the 'End Times' of the United States of America.

Every branch of and department in government has broken down, & refuses to abide by & enforce the rule of law. Everyone outside of Washington sees it & says almost daily, "What the heII is Obama doing?", "What is he thinking?" Even 0bamabots. They may not be saying it aloud online, but when the reason they offer for his actions are, "He's playing 3-dimensional chess", the subtext is that they don't get it either: It's inexplicable behavior for the 2008 candidate who won promising change from the plutocratic/fascist Bush-Cheney-Republican leadership.

George W. Bush Defends Waterboarding: Would Waterboard Khalid Sheik Mohammed Again

This is what comes of Obama and Democrats not holding investigations and prosecuting the Bush administration. It enables Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Ashcroft, Yoo, Bybee, the CIA torturers, et al, to crawl out of the woodwork and rejoin polite society.

What it also does is guarantee that the ante has been raised and the bar lowered for all time on human rights, and with it the loss of the US's moral authority. Obama has already expanded Bush's claim of unitary executive autonomous power, declaring his right to imprison and execute American citizens without any judicial oversight or due process.

Once Bush has completed this book tour, the path for the return of neocons, regular cons, and future Bush administrations will have been paved.

If for no other reason (and there are so many other reasons), unless Obama does a 180-degree turn and performs to what his supporters' expectations were of him (and Democrats), he's got to be a one-termer.

Gulf Oil Spill Criminal Case Difficult Against Execs

Of course there won't be any criminal charges brought by the Obama administration's Justice Department.

Obama's attorney general (Eric Holder) refuses to prosecute the CIA, Yoo, Bybee, or anyone for waterboarding, torture (or anyone at Goldman Sacks, or anywhere else for the financial meltdown), but instead this administration is continuing what Bush did: Going after government whistleblowers, detaining people with no evidence indefinitely and with no judicial review.

We're in the 'End Times' of the United States of America.

Sarah Palin Blames Environmentalists For Gulf Oil Disaster

The only way to counter ig.nor.ance like Sarah Palin's and her followers is with the facts.

The reason oil companies drill in the deep sea is because THAT'S WHERE THE OIL IS.

Oil barons have gotten all of the more easily accessible oil, and what's left now can only be harvested through more risky and dangerous drilling operations. Peak oil. Learn it, talk about it, make sure every discussion about oil includes it.
