Obama: 'No Regrets' Over Ground Zero Mosque Comments

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

I'm an ACLU card-carrying registered Democrat. And an old old liberal one, to boot.

You are a paid DLC operative.

My work here won't be done until you are driven back to the Republican Party.

Grow a pair, BillLoney, and take back your party from the fringe rightwing evangelicals who drove you bl00dsucking corporatists out of the Republican party. And while you're at it, go culture yourself a few cells of morality and stop the Iying about who and what you really are.

As to your second point, I'm not putting words or thoughts into your mouth.

I said, "You are proving my point", which was:

=="I think that is one reason why the DoJ and Holder (in spite of being male) exhibit no sense of urgency, because it's a sex crime against men. Whether it's about Holder and other men at the DoJ being unconscious about the crime of rape (not wanting to think about men being violated by other men, for so many reasons) or something else (that to many men, all sexual activity is wanted sexual activity), their failure to act on this affects all of our lives."==

You then challenged the frequency or pervasiveness of the act against men based on no facts, which you admit, just a hunch on your part). What was your intent, if not to dismiss it as a less serious problem than when women are raped?

My point was that people tend not to want to look at the problem of men being raped, and look for ways to avoid it. And then you tried to provide a reason to avoid it, thereby proving my point.

What I am saying is that we do not know which sex gets raped more because we have no figures. We do know that men, women and children are victims of rape. We do not know what the figures are. So saying 'more men are raped than women' cannot be accurate.

======================================

What we do know is that of the rape that is known, that is reported, more men are raped than women. That's the DoJ reporting.

Obama: 'No Regrets' Over Ground Zero Mosque Comments

Did you know that the photo the other day of Obama & his daughter swimming "in the Gulf of Mexico" (so that people would travel to the Gulf states and spend their vacation dollars there, that the water was safe), that Obama & Sasha weren't actually swimming in the Gulf of Mexico? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/president-goes-for-a-swim-in-the-gulf-ndash-or-does-he-2053567.html

Few know this because this story about the building of a m0sque in NYC has obliterated all other news in the media.

0bama does not support the builing of the M0sque. He supports the right for them to build it which both sides already agree on. He basically said nothing. If he supported building it he would say he supported building it, not that they had a right to build it which no one is arguing and everyone already knows.

=======================================

So why open his mouth in the first place?

Your description of what 0bama did is classically called a "disinformation campaign".

It why (and how) those who voted for him are angry, confused, and arguing among themselves about who he is and what he stands for.

0bama's purpose was not to bring clarity to the furor and lead Americans out of the miasma of the past decade decade, but to restoke the raw fears and ig.no.rance that were exploited after nine eleven to get us into war$ of choice for profit by the richest.

For whatever the reason (to prevent us from discussing real issues in these weeks before the mid-term elections, or to keep us in endless, losing war$ in Afghan!stan & lraq, or expand them into lran as is being reported), he brings no clarity or vision or resolution to the issue with his remarks.

This is not leadership.

Women do not report because reporting gets you raped again by the judiciary, the press, and people who are turned off to you because you have been raped, like your husband.

========================================

It's not a contest, but if you believe that "rape is the most under-reported crime in America", it's not one you can win without proof (reporting). Men, also, do not report getting raped, for many reasons.

Perhaps the biggest reason is the fear of being perceived as homosexual. Apparently that is so powerful that criminals such as burglars and robbers sometimes rape their male victims as a sideline solely to prevent them from going to the police, according to Stephen Donaldson, president of the advocacy group Stop Prisoner Rape, who says that that has helped to lead to the widespread and pervasive suppression of the knowledge of male rape.

More men are raped than women? Nope.

=================================

Yes.

Not only in prison, but to males under the age of 21.

Rape is the most under reported crime in America. We have no idea how many are raped.

===================================================

I think you, too, are proving my point, about the diminishment and dismissal of men's feelings.

Men are people, too, and experience the same feelings as women when raped: Depression, anger, guilt, self-blame, sexual dysfunctions, flashbacks, and suicidal feelings.

Other problems facing males include an increased sense of vulnerability, damaged self-image and emotional distancing. Male rape victims not only have to confront unsympathetic attitudes if they choose to press charges, they also often hear unsupportive statements from their friends, family and acquaintances. People will tend to fault the male victim instead of the rapist.

Sound familiar? ["She was asking for it, wearing that short skirt" versus "How can he claim to have been raped against his will if he got an erection?"]

The definition of rape (sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against someone's will) isn't dependent on the geographical location where it occurs.

Rape is rape, no matter where it happens.

I think you're actually proving my point, about the diminishment and dismissal of men's feelings.

Federal statistics gathered by the DrugAbuseWarninNetwork (DAWN) do indicate an increase in the number of people “mentioning” marijuana during ER visits. (It's hardly unique to marijuana however, as the overall number of drug mentions has risen dramatically since the late 1980s – likely due to improved federal reporting procedures.) However, a marijuana “mention” does not mean that marijuana caused the hospital visit or that it was a factor in leading to the ER episode, only that the patient said that he'd used marijuana previously.

For every ER visit related to drug use, hospital staff list up to five drugs the patient reports having used recently, regardless of whether or not use of the drug caused the visit. The frequency with which any drug is mentioned in such visits is generally proportional to its frequency of use, irrespective of its inherent dangers.

It's foolish for anyone – especially those in the administration’s anti-drug office – to imply that marijuana is in any way potentially more dangerous to one’s health than heroin. Marijuana's mentioned to hospital staff more frequently than heroin, not because it’s more dangerous, but simply because a far greater percentage of the population uses marijuana than uses heroin. It is also worth noting that alcohol is by far the drug most frequently reported to DAWN, even though it is reported only when present in combination with another reportable drug. Moreover, marijuana is rarely mentioned independent of other drugs.

When rape (or anything else) began to be a problem isn't the issue; Obama wasn't elected to continue the status quo. He ran on a platform of CHANGE.

No sooner did he get into office than he dug in his heels, slooooowed everything down, flip-flopped on everything he campaigned for and continued the Bush-Cheney policies.
