White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Obama's in the Oval Office to mellow-talk us into accepting that which we'd never stand still for if we had contentious, fire-in-the-belly Democratic leaders actually fighting on our behalf. Obama's in the White House to talk our rational minds into accepting the greatest heist in the history of the world being perpetrated on us, and never even think about trying to get back the money that was ripped off from the middle & poor classes, and to ease our transition into a third world nation.

Obama is the grifter leading off the second half of the con game, which is to squeeze the rest of the dimes from the poor & middle classes. That began with part 2 of Bush's Medicare Reform Act of 2003 (high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls), and continues with his Debt Commission that's going to cut Social Security & Medicare, privatize the Social Security trust fund, then follow up with more *AFTA treaties which will outsource of the rest of Americans' jobs.

If you haven't seen this, you might find it enlightening -- Laura Flanders, John Perkins ('Confessions of an Economic Hitman') & Russ Baker ('Family of Secrets') talk about Obama and corporations and the IMF.

Debt Commission Report Targets Social Security, Medicare

I think that 'briefing' is one of those urban legends, concocted by baffled onlookers who are at a loss to explain the newly elected president's dramatic flip-flops on all campaign promises.

It's easier to believe that Obama is being blackmailed (or as I have quipped, "Has anyone seen Michelle's mother since Inauguration Day?") than to accept that we've been flim-flammed.

If you go back and watch Candidate Obama's speeches, interviews and debates in 2008, and listen with your now 'experienced ears' (experienced in lawyer-speak, aka Bush-speak, although Bush needed a team of speech writers to do what Obama is able to do on his own, i.e., think on his feet), I think you'll see that Obama spoke carefully and precisely to give people the sense of what they wanted to hear to get their vote. It's why even among his most ardent admirers, they still argue about whether he's a liberal or a centrist or a moderate Republican.  He convinced centrists that he was a centrist.  He convinced liberals he was a liberal posing as a centrist.

Obama's nothing but a politician, and I mean that in the worst sense of the word.  In the 'used car salesman' sense.  It turns out that doing what's right for transnational corporations is what Obama is about, and trying to sell it as good for Americans is what he does afterwards. He's the epitome of the 1950s Republican, "What's good for GM is good for America."

Obama did a snow job on everybody.

This means we have to borrow $700 billion.

Extending Bush's tax cuts is adding another $700 billion onto the deficit.

This isn't a tax cut; it's a tax increase.

Here's Austan Goolsbee, Obama's own chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, talking against it:

I think this was the other shoe dropping, StellaRay, from last week's election.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that American life as we've all known it is all downhill from here.  They managed to keep us from realizing the extent of the devastation, until they had all the ducks lined up for liquidation (and as long as we didn't realize the extent of the problem), but once that happened (last week's election was a show of the People's hand, that we're not going along with it), that's why this was leaked today.  With Obama out of the country, to keep him still removed somewhat.

When schools need extra money, they hold bake sales.

When most Americans go bankrupt or broke, they hold garage sales.

What could we sell to pay off the debt?

During the Great Depression, my family took in boarders.

Instead of letting private corporations make money off of this as they do now, the feds should take this over to pay down the debt:

Import radioactive waste from foreign countries for dumping in the US.

Yeah, baby!

What Should I Do If My Posts Are Disappearing?:

If you have a legitimate post scrubbed, go to your welcome page and select the "my activity" tab. Your post will be there. Above it is a color highlighted link ("commented"). Click on it to confirm your post's deletion. If it has been deleted, go back and copy the highlighted link. At the bottom of any page you will find a "contact us" link. Open it and select the link under "Report a technical problem". A menu will open; paste your copied link in the URL box and make your report. The offending deleter will be reviewed and may lose their m0d2 status and their HP account.

Are your non-abusive posts disappearing?

There may be a rogue m0d2 in our midst.

Here's the problem (and how some abusive HP commenters are getting to be m0d2s and scrubbing comments they don't like):

The system can be scammed by setting up an account from which to intentionally offend and another to earn higher status by flagging it.

You create 2 or more 'sock' accounts here at HP. In one of the accounts, you post abusive comments, and in another you flag them until the HP system rewards you with a m0d2 status.

Then the trouble starts.

The only way to identify and remove the abusive m0d2 is by reporting it. The internal m0ds can track the URL back to the abuser.

Rogue m0d2s can be eliminated by reporting them. They attack after the internal m0ds have cleared a comment and posted it. When a comment vanishes, act quickly on reporting it. You'll be defending the entire thread, not to mention democracy, the first amendment, freedom, the American way, & all life continuing on the planet. ;-)

When politicians says that "Social Security is the third rail of politics", they mean it with a hostility that should be reserved for their Corporate Masters.  You don't see politicians putting campaign finance and election reform on their agenda from year to year as you do their continuing assaults on social safety net programs for the People.

To politicians, We The People are the problem.  If only they didn't have to deal with making us happy to get our votes that keep them employed.  If only they didn't have to serve us, they'd be able to give and give and give to Big Business (privatize national resources that belong collectively to us, the People) and deregulate so that corporations wouldn't be constrained by anything, become profit-making machines, unobstructed by piddling voter concerns, such as  health, safety, environment, etc.  And for this, politicians would be amply rewarded, and perhaps would eventually be able to join the ruling class.

You can choose to think of Obama and his intentions in whatever way makes you happy.  What you can't do is explain how any of what Obama's done these past two years has been in the People's and not the Corporations' interests.

Yes, I've read TFA.  Unless I say otherwise, assume I read every FA before I comment.  :-)

Contracts are my life, and what the chairmen are releasing is a shot across the bow, and giving (me, at least) a good idea of what is going to be in the report.  It's the kind of thing that Obama should have done about the healthcare legislation, and in a backwards, perverse way (in what was taken off the table and not allowed into the debate at all), how I and others knew early on that there wasn't going to be any cost cutting/saving mechanisms, no public option, but instead public health k!lling legislation.

The threshold for privatizing Social Security and making cuts in benefits and raising the age and a few other items on the list has already been met -- The committee was stacked with privatizers and cutters right out of the gate.  Democratic leaders have already signaled they're open to it.

I don't know how old you are or who you are, but the American people have been down this road before, of cuts to benefits and age raising.  This isn't something new to us.  We know how the "wearing your opposition down" works.  Politicians (both sides of the aisle) have been waging a war on Social Security (and all social programs), while laying out the (People's) larder for Big Business.  If only they fought for the People's issues with the same vigor and commitment as they fought for their Corporate Masters' issues.

But politicians are not 'regular folk' like you and me.  They're in politics for power and money.  The contempt and resentment they have for much of their constituency back home is palpable.  Very few of them return home when they leave office.  They either stay in Washington and work another leg of politics (lobbying, lawyering, public relations, foundations, think tanks, etc.) or they relocate to another state, not their home state.

Debt Commission Report Targets Social Security, Medicare

Obama's been continuing just about all of the BushCheney policies (who were able to do what they did by piggy-backing onto what the previous administrations had been setting up); the DLC-controlled Congress's watering down of real Democratic legislation, thereby turning it into Republican-like legislation, isn't because they're "nice guys" who don't like confrontation, and want to play with and be friends with Republicans.  These are all sharks, both sides of the aisle, and We The People are what they're feasting on.  You don't get onto the national stage of politics, or anything in the US, unless you're driven and have been delivering to the powers that be already.

Republicans love it the Democrats' watered down legislation that is Republican-like.  Republicans get what they want (generally, or what they can build on later) & they don't have to vote for it.  That satisfies their base's need for knee-jerk tribal warfare between the 2 political parties (how many times have you heard Republican tr0IIs declare that a bill "must be bad if Democrats are for it"?), AND, it satisfies their & Democrats' shared Corporate Masters. They get amply rewarded with great big donations to their reelection campaigns.

What Obama's been doing should be shocking to all real Democratic voters.

"Exact same method/tactics were used on Clinton. . .

You should instead be demanding to know why the billionaires have been allowed to run the nation, undisturbed since de regulation of newspapers, radio, television in the 1980s.

See they own all the information systems. and there are far too many who don't see that the so called MSM is just a more subtle version of AM conservative radio and Fox.

What we need to know is how Clinton was bullied into signing the conservataive legislation. and how Obama is being bullied into the same.

No one is asking the right questions, everyone continues to go along with the lies even such obvious one as allowing Bush/Cheney to run the national debt up to $11.5 Trillion then suddenly decide the nation is in a crisis because of it and  we should give them our Social Security to pay for it and get the Democratic Party Presidtnt to go along.

Why isn't anyone asking?"

======================================================

Exact same methods were used "on" Clinton?

I'm not going to argue with you about Clinton (or Obama) being an innocent victim; Democratic voters, for the most part, still haven't finished their love affair with Bill Clinton.  Believe what you want about Clinton, cling to your cherished illusions about him, about Hillary -- They're both laughing all the way to the bank.  Bill Clinton has made $100 million in the last ten years that we know about, and untold more through his dealings with Yucaipa and Ron Burkle; Clinton has benefitted mightily through his signing the Gramm-Leach-Act.

Most Democratic voters think the Clintons are liberals.  Most Democratic voters have no idea what the DLC is.

Like the real debate & assessment of Reagan that's never happened, we've never assessed Clinton's true legacy. Eliminating the social welfare safety nets, Glass-Steagle, the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, rendition, privatization, the sanctions & daily bombing of Iraq (& so much more) laid the foundation for what BushCheney did to decimate the country. As AlanGreenspan said, "Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we've had in a while."

The same is so for Obama. More so.

The DLC's pitch for not throwing Democratic incumbents out of office last week was "Do you want to return to the failed policies of BushCheney & Republicans?"

When did we ever leave them?

Oh for pete's sake, GET THE D@MNED MONEY BACK!

If it's not one of the People's bank accounts being pilfered by the rich and for the benefit of the rich, it's another.  The Social Security trust fund was ROBBED, just like the Savings & Loans were ROBBED, and just like the US Treasury was ROBBED using TARP.

Obama, through this Deficit Commission, is poised to pull part 2 of the greatest heist in the history of the world, and both parties are in it together.

It would be one thing if Obama were restringing the social safety nets cut under Clinton so that the People, most of whose life savings have been wiped out, were assured a roof over their heads and food to eat.  But he's not.

Instead, Obama is setting up the next step in the 'Greatest Heist', squeezing the last dimes out of the middle & poor classes, with the privatization of Social Security and cuts to Social Security & Medicare benefits, high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls (or guarantees of coverage, or universal coverage), and the outsourcing of the rest of Americans' jobs with the coming *AFTA treaties that Obama & the *new* Republican Congress are going to pass.

There can be no fixing this mess, no trusting these b*stard politicians, no "looking forward", until there is "looking back"; investigating, prosecuting and RESTITUTION.

Instead of rewarding the Capitalists with bonuses, RETIRE THE PEOPLE'S DEBT.

Obama and the DLC-controlled Democrats are as crooked as the Republicans & Bush-Cheney gang.

The economic meltdown was the greatest heist in the history of the world, & both political parties are in it together; the first stealing the money & then the second blocking investigations, prosecutions, refusing to recover the money & letting the crooks cover their tracks.

What People want & expect is that when they're ripped off the police will apprehend the perps & try to recover the property. Obama & Democrats are NOT doing that.
It would be one thing if Obama were restringing the social safety nets cut under Clinton so that the People (most of whose life savings have been wiped out) were assured a roof over their heads & food to eat.
     But he's not.

Instead, Obama's setting up the Great Heist's parts 2, 3 & 4, which are to squeeze the last dimes out of the middle & poor classes, with the privatization of SocialSecurity & cuts to SocialSecurity & Medicare benefits, high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls (or guarantees of coverage, or universal coverage), & the outsourcing of more Americans' jobs with the coming *AFTA treaties that Obama & the *new* Republican Congress are going to pass.

Debt Commission Report Targets Social Security, Medicare

By the way, those of you with loved ones (parents, grandparents, family, friends, etc. -- Let's not leave out children and disabled) whose support and survival depends on Social Security and Medicare, will find the burden falling to them.

When their parents, grandparents, etc., have no money to pay rent (or the nursing home bill), are they going to turn them away from their own homes and out onto the street?  Are they going to let them starve?  What about the medications keeping them healthy, much less alive?

What about those on Social Security and Medicare with no families?

Bush's tax cuts?  Borrowing another $700 billion, adding to the deficit so that the rich can get even richer???

Continue wars that are costing us a fortune but making the rich even richer, while making us enemies everywhere?

Keep US military bases all over the world?  Keep redundancies and pork in the Pentagon's budget?  With John Boehner as Speaker of the House, count on it.

One example of pork that Boehner recently voted for involves the F-35 jet.  Every time one of these planes is built, they build two engines.  They make an extra engine just in case you lose the first one.   The Pentagon has been begging forever, "Please, can we stop building two engines?", and the answer is always the same "No", because they're built in John Boehner's district.

It is 'Third World Nation'-time unless Americans stand up to both political parties and say NO!

Nearly 59 Million Americans Lack Health Insurance: CDC

You have actually pinpointed the problem with keeping this healthcare legislation in place.

Those who defend the legislation and say "It's a start" (it isn't and wasn't ever intended by DLC-Democrats to be a start in getting to a non-profit, or public option, or single payer universal healthcare) don't understand that "it's a start" for making it even more corporate-friendly.

Now that Republicans control the House, expect it to happen, and with DLC-Democrats' assistance, with legislative language that the People aren't going to realize means they're being further swindled.

This is what I mean when I talk about the 'tag-teaming' by Democrats and Republicans.  How they work together, 'good-cop'/'bad cop', to further the agenda of their real constituents (Big Business).

How many troops do we still have in Germany? Okinawa? Elsewhere around the world?
====================================

I've never understood this argument.  Not as a justification for keeping troops in a nation that we never should have attacked and been at war with in the first place, nor as a standard for keeping troops in countries which we were rightly at war with.

Sixty-five years of constellating our war machine into countries that are now our allies and partners is ins@ne policy and something we can't afford -- Not monetarily and not as a matter of strategy.

These bases all need to be closed up and the troops brought home.

To begin with,  ALL troops are 'combat troops'; all are trained and combat-ready.

But even the troops referred to in Iraq (and I'm not even referring to the 100,000 US private contracted troops that ARE engaging in combat), the units deployed in Iraq after August 31st 2010 will all be fully functional combat units. The only difference is that we will now call them by a different name, in which the word "combat" no longer appears. They are now termed "advise and assist brigades" by the administration.

I suggest that you consider Democrats and Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, and when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, and continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what We, the People thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans and all the different ways they've been tricked, and start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business.

Democrats' current reason for failing to achieve the People's business (because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc.) is custom-tailored to fit the promotion of Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize that what they're trying to sell is that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do...And that's "a good thing".

Obama White House To Start Publicly Walking Away From 2011 Afghan Withdraw Date

Rumors of the Democratic politicians having no spines are greatly exaggerated.

Just like Obama's timidity is myth; he's plenty tough when it comes to standing up to the Democratic base.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama and Democrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled Democratic Party gives lip service to all populist issues (like civil rights protections, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, public healthcare, Wall Street reform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid and relentless in your sales pitch and tactics. It's not that Bush and R0ve were geniuses and knew something that nobody else knew; Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians and the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans -- If you keep at it, escalate your attacks,  don't take 'no' for an answer and never back away, you will wear the opposition down.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) and the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the R0ve machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush and Cheney off the table, have us still reelecting them and not marching on Washington with torches and pitchforks?

Obama and Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to achieve our alleged shared objectives.

Getting Democratic voters (and Obama's 'most ardent supporters') to understand that Democratic politicians have been taking us all for suckers and patsies is the most immediate problem and the challenge.

Obama White House To Start Publicly Walking Away From 2011 Afghan Withdraw Date

code blue  9 minutes ago (12:59 PM)

I bet you liked to watch the X-Files.

You have unnamed sources saying the drawdown will _end_ late, and the WH saying the drawdown will _begin_ on time.

Where's the great betrayal? All it says is that once begun, the drawdown may take longer than anticipated.
===============================================

Gratuitous insult noted (I've never watched the X Files).

If, after withdrawing one troop, could Obama say that he's "begun drawing down troops"?

56,000 troops plus another 100,000 private contracted troops remain in Iraq today after Obama declared "combat over" last March.

Obama's a fraud.

You don't campaign (as Democrats and Obama did) on being against the wars, and for putting them on budget (which is a method for ending them - see how & why here ), then don't put them on budget, and then vote for more supplementals!

Democrats have controlled the entire process. Democrats have had the ability to accomplish putting the war on budget; Democrats haven't needed Republicans to do this, for two years and haven't done it

Democrats have let Obama continue with just about all of BushCheney's policies and wars, and gone BushCheney even one better by letting Obama assert, unchallenged, that presidents have the right to k!ll Americans with no due process or oversight, 'preventive detention' (locking people up indefinitely, uncharged, with no due process).  And, according to Obama, NO TRANSPARENCY:  Anything a president does, Obama asserts, can and should be his secret, from the public, from citizens, from Congress, from the Courts.

Democrats have abdicated their Constitutionally-REQUIRED role of oversight of the executive branch. They failed to perform it during the BushCheney administration and didn't with one of their own in the White House.

And now, the pro-war party, Republicans, are controlling the House.

We're never leaving Afghanistan or Iraq.  The 'Long War'.

Obama's a fraud, as is the DLC-controlled Democratic Party.

What's misleading?

The White House engages in disinformation, and that's what this article is highlighting.  HP is getting the quotes on the record from the McClatchy article.

Obama's habit and pattern has been to start seeding the news with conflicting and contradictory quotes before it reneges and does a 180-degree turn on its promises and pledges.

First Obama's for a public option before he's against it.   Then we hear he was never for it, and in this day and age of videotape, it's easy to prove that he campaigned on it.  But the People get confused and then believe the constant assertion of Obama's l!e, and get worn down.
