cutting the spending and dumping unnecessary, unconstitutional, money-sucking agencies and programs?

============================================

There are no such things.  That's not what's breaking us.

But if you think there is, here, be my guest: Start cutting.  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ce/Fy2010_spending_by_category.jpg

What you think is superfluous, unnecessary, are lives.  Jobs.  What keeps this country operating.

What you want to cut isn't what I want to cut.  I think what you want to cut is based on false beliefs that you have, that you've been set up to accept as true.  A military budget to keep you safe when if the military budget was eliminated, the military wouldn't be able to do what it is that makes us targets.

You want to cut public education, eliminate the Department of Education, as all good knee-j3rk conservatives?  Sure, let's get Americans even stvp!der than they are now after 30 years of conservatives slashing education budgets.   First learn what the Dept of Education does, the money it generates by providing the services it does, the benefits to the nation from its services and what happens to the people it employs.  http://www2.ed.gov/about/overview/budget/budget11/index.html

It's not what I appreciate; it's what the average American voter appreciates.

Bernie Sanders and Alan Grayson wouldn't get to first base with the American people, having nothing to do with their looks.

Do you honestly believe that Ronald Reagan was elected president for any other reason than he looked the part and had a script of BS patriotic images spewing out of his mouth?

Why would you put such energy into two men who haven't got a chance in h3ll of winning?  And not because of their positions on the issues, but because of the photogenics (or lack) of them?

Democratic Donors Set To Go Rogue On Obama

It would be a good idea for Democrats to get better candidates rather than bowing,at times, to the old guard who seem to want power so badly they'll lose the congress and white house to try to get it. The fact that Reid did not have a strong primary challenger shows how last-century the party is thinking.
=============================================================

"last-century" thinking?

It's got nothing to do with quaint, old-fashioned thinking.  It's about grabs for raw power and massive wealth.

Obama and the DLC have worked their butts off to PREVENT more progressives/liberals from getting elected. Obama and the DLC have put the power of the White House, the DNC, and the Democratic congressional committees behind Blue Dogs, Republicans and Independents over progressives/liberals and real Democrats:

Blue Dog Blanche Lincoln over progressive Democrat Lt. Governor Bill Halter.

Republican-turned-Independent Arlen Specter over progressive Democrat Joe Sestak.

Republican-turned-Independent Lincoln Chaffee over Democrat Frank Caprio (which, in turn, is an effective endorsement of the Republican John Loughlin over Democrat David Cicilline for the congressional seat Democrat Patrick Kennedy is retiring from, and all of the other seats up for grab in Rhode Island).

Republican-turned-Independent Charlie Crist over liberal Democrat Kendrick Meek.

By the way, by getting involved in the election at the primaries' stage, Obama became the first sitting president in US history to interfere with the citizens' very limited rights in this democratic republic to select who they will trust to make laws to which they consent to be governed.

Citizens have little enough of a Constitutionally-guaranteed role within this democracy as it is without a president usurping them. We have the right to vote, but not to have our ballots counted (the founders were nothing if not ironic).  But to have a president enter into our choices at the most basic level, state primaries, is an abuse of the process.

They've all got to go, along with mushy middle of the road thinking like yours.

Democratic Donors Set To Go Rogue On Obama

The disrespect of the Democratic party towards Obama is alarming.

They lack the patience and focus that the Republicans seem to possess and for whatever reasons (I think race plays a hand in this) they are not allowing Obama to lead the Democratic party the way Clinton was allowed to.

===========================================

Thank G*d for that small favor.

Democratic voters, for the most part, still haven't finished their love affair with Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush's "best friend" and partner in advancing the move to a "new world order".

Most Democratic voters think the Clintons are liberals.  Most Democrats don't know that the Clintons co-founded the DLC; most Democratic voters have no idea what the DLC is.

Just like the real debate & assessment of Reagan that's never happened, we've never assessed Clinton's true legacy. Eliminating the social welfare safety nets, Glass-Steagle, the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, rendition, privatization, the sanctions & daily bombing of Iraq (& so much more) laid the foundation for what BushCheney did to decimate the country. As AlanGreenspan said, "Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we've had in a while."

The Clintons benefitted greatly from the repeal of Glass-Steagall (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act), which Bill Clinton signed into law at the end of his administration, and what's behind the economic meltdown.  He made $100 million in the last ten years, and much more than that (unknown, secret, which is the nature of hedge funds) from his dealings with Yucaipa and Ron Burkle.

In the weeks before the midterms elections, when Bill Clinton was campaigning for candidates in states where Obama's popularity is in the tank, not one reporter asked Clinton any question of substance (including  his signing Gramm-Leach-Bliley, which repealed Glass-Steagall, and would he do all over again if he had the chance -- He would, by the way).

This is another reason for why there have to be investigations and prosecutions into the collapse of our economy and the 'preemptive wars' policies -- Obama has to stop blocking these processes, because we can't go forward without looking back.  We cannot make wise decisions, not about policies and not about the politicians we need to make these policies and lead us without knowing what the h3ll happened.

Once Americans learn the role of both parties, and who these politicians really are and who they're aligned with, they will understand that both political parties are corrupt to the core and that the solution for our political and financial woes can only come from OUTSIDE of these parties.

We've been doing it your way, the DLC's way, for 20 years now, and the government and the Democratic Party keeps moving farther to the right.

Bush Tax Cuts: The Fight Obama Can't Ignore

Do you really not understand that there isn't anything that Democrats in Congress are doing that isn't directly ordered by the White House?  Do you not know what 'party government' means?

The president does it all the time.  Formally it's done through the Senate.  Informally, it's done through the president's senior aides meeting with Congressional leadership, telling members of Congress and their staffs what they're going to be doing.

Do you really not know this?

Now that's a ridiculously uneven deal.  You're talking about $3 TRILLION dollars in borrowing if all of the Bush tax cuts were continued.

A one-year extension of unemployment benefits would cost roughly $65 billion dollars, or less than 1/10th of what extending the tax cuts for the rich for ten years would cost.

No, it's not their own money.

It costs to live in a stable democratic culture.  It benefits the rich far more than it does the poor and middle class.

In the last 40 years, corporations and the rich have gotten a sweet sweet deal, and pretty much a free ride.  Tax breaks and incentives are available to them that aren't available to the poor and middle class.  You can amass huge wealth when you already have huge wealth and are able to write just about all your expenses off to your corporations.

Today's GM offering is a good example, by the way, of a sweet deal that they have access to that the We The People can't get anywhere near.  That stock offering wasn't available to the small investor, despite the fact that it was us and our money that bailed GM out.

The rich, corporations, all are thriving from the bl00d, sweat and tears of the poor and middle classes.

Dems Vow To Push Filibuster Reform

With Nancy Pelosi back as the minority leader in the House, and Reid undoubtedly continuing as the Senate Majority Leader, Obama and the Democratic Party have reconstituted themselves, ready to give Democratic voters more of the same of the past 4 years (since Pelosi and Reid took over both chambers of Congress in 2006).  Their spin, that the election was a mandate for Obama's continuing to cave to Republicans, 'bipartisanship', etc., and Congress delivering Republican-like legislation with Democrats giving the appearance of objecting, is sealed.

Just as I predicted.

The only way that can happen, failed leaders being returned to power, is if the results of the last two years are EXACTLY what the powers-that-be within the Democratic Party intended.

Trying to change the (DLC-controlled) Democratic Party's congressional leadership is like trying to break up mercury and keep the droplets apart.  The DLC-controlled leadership is like the Terminator, working against the People, working against getting corporate interests out of government, and against getting real reforms into place.

I'm convinced that the only solution to getting the nation back on track and out of the hands of the oligarchs (if it's even possible at this point) is going to have to come from outside of the Democratic Party.

Dems Vow To Push Filibuster Reform

Ryan Grim, your error was in making this article a tribute to Harry Reid.  Like he's some sort of 'profile in courage', when, in fact, Reid could have done so much to since that day in December, 2009, to advance Democratic legislation  -- Everything from forcing Republicans to actually filibuster instead of merely threatening, to ending it outright, not waiting until the start of the next Congress.  Senate rule 22 gives the Senator Majority Leader the discretion to force Republicans to have to filibuster, to stand at the podium on the floor of the Senate and speak continuously hour after hour, or merely just say that they're prepared to if Reid brings a bill to the floor for a vote.  Harry Reid has been taking Mitch McConnell's word for it.

Harry Reid has had no problem forcing the GOP to actually filibuster when it's something that the DLC wants & perceives it needs. For example, when Democrats needed unemployment benefits to continue because the masses were becoming 'critical', Reid had no problem calling Republican Jim Bunning's bluff to filibuster. Reid said, "Bring in the cots, do it" and Bunning and the GOP caved. Benefits for unemployed workers continued.

Senate rules can be changed at any time, and not just at the start of a new Congress - It can be done at any time (see page 6 - http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/45448.pdf ).

Nor is there just one way (or even two) for Democrats to get bills passed without Republican votes.

Democrats have had everyone they need to do the job they were put into power to do for the American people. They don't want to do it.

Here's a test for you, Ryan Grim: Who are the 3 Republican senators who didn't want to be the 60th?

That should show you where Reid's loyalty lies.  Reid protects them, keeps the truth of their hypocrisy from the public at large and from their constituents in particular.  The status quo serves Reid.

If Bush's tax cuts are allowed to expire as they are set to on December 31st, the deficit would be cut in half, instantly.

If the tax cuts are continued for the rich, we would have to borrow $700 billion to pay for it.

If the tax cuts are continued for everyone, we would have to borrow $3 trillion to pay for it.

And if there is a 2-year extension "compromise", we would still have to borrow $70-140 billion for the rich's portion and $383 billion for the middle class's portion.

Obama is expanding the wars into Yemen.

Obama and Democratic leadership have already indicated they're on board with Social Security cuts, privatizing, etc. -- Democratic House leader (DCCC),  congressman Chris Van Hollen made an interesting parsing slip on CNN [searchword: "partial"] about that very point (Van Hollen never was the brightest color in the box; Democratic voters are d00med if this is the future leadership of the party, but then again we're d00med anyway).

There should be tax HIKES on corporations and the rich.  There should be massive cuts to the military.  Banks should be threatened with nationalization unless they begin lending to small businesses.

Democratic politicians should be beating this drum, loudly and constantly.

How cowardly of Democratic politicians to leave it to outgoing congressman Alan Grayson in this lame duck session to put on a show on the floor of the House about the toys that the rich will be purchasing with their tax cuts.

Has anybody seen the Democratic leadership lately?  Where is Obama?  Where is Harry Reid?  Where is Nancy Pelosi?  Where is Steny Hoyer?  Where is Jim Clyburn?  WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE'S LEADERS???

Come to think of it, where's Elizabeth Warren?  Weren't her supporters, the ones who assured everyone it was just fine for her to take an advisory role to Obama instead of one with teeth, with power, saying we'd be hearing from her all the time, calling Obama and Geithner out?

When informed of the issues, most Americans agree with liberal policies.

The only liberal policy that you know is the propagandistic spin you've been force fed.

Knock the BS off.

Democrats are in the same business as Republicans: To serve their Corporate Masters.

I suggest that you consider Democrats and Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, and when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, and continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what We, the People thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans and all the different ways they've been tricked, and start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business.

Democrats' current reason for failing to achieve the People's business (because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc.) is custom-tailored to fit the promotion of Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize that what they're trying to sell is that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do...And their ineptitude, like that's somehow "a good thing".

Guess who didn't show up for Democrats at the midterm elections?

Independents and liberal Democrats.

The DLC has been working to move the Democratic Party to the right of right-of-center, and make the Democratic Party warm and cozy for moderate Republicans who feel pressured by the fringe rightwing that's controlling the Republican Party.

The DLC believes that if we, the base of the Democratic Party (we on the left make up 70% of Democratic voters) can be driven from the Democratic Party, then moderate Republican politicians and their supporters will vote for DLC-Democrats (at the very least) or join the Democratic Party.

Joe Biden: 2014 Afghanistan Pullout Is 'Drop Dead Date'

Americans are losing our jobs, our homes, our Social Security, Medicare, police, firemen, teachers, and going into debt to China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, (even our grandchildren won't be able to pay it off), for wars to protect and increase riches for the top elites (an oil pipeline & mineral riches in Afghanistan, not to mention the oil contracts in Iraq).  These are riches that ordinary Americans don't get profits from, but that the Establishment Elites (Dick Cheney & the Bush family among them) all are getting rich(er) from.

The American people derive only increased risk to our personal safety because those Afghans and Iraqis frustrated over the k!lling of their families and friends and of being occupied turn terr0r!st because they can't get at the political leaders ordering the bombing and occupation of their country (Obama doesn't fly commercial, doesn't have to be gr0pe-searched to travel for his job or visit family on Thanksgiving).

A few weeks ago, Rachel Maddow walked the dusty, garbage-strewn streets of Afghanistan with RIchard Engel to see what exporting US-style democracy means, and what US nation-building actually builds. Watch this to see where are our tax dollars going, and learn how we are not "nation-building", not making us safer, and not helping the Afghans or building their nation at all (or a democracy). Learn how this has all been just a huge rip-off of the American people:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR5BHnN__5M

This is all going on under Obama and a Democratically-controlled Congress that has had a bigger arsenal of t00Is available to them as the majority in power, controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House, than Republicans have had as the minority.

Joe Biden: 2014 Afghanistan Pullout Is 'Drop Dead Date'

When informed of the issues, most Americans agree with liberal policies. Neither they nor I would characterize themselves as far-anything or extreme, but mainstream. For example, nobody likes the idea of abortion, but most Americans do not want the government involved if they find themselves in the predicament of an unwanted pregnancy. And if you frame it as, "You like to k!ll babies?!?!?!?!", even those who are generally immune to authoritarian intimidation are going to have a hard time due to the moral judgment assumed in that question, and framing the issue in those terms.

Obama and Democrats got into power by promising a SMART and sane foreign policy, a different foreign policy than what we get from Republicans, and the polar opposite of the Bush-Cheney policies.
This is no different.

Will Petraeus Thwart Obama's Timetable for Withdrawal from Afghanistan?

Like McChrystal, Petraeus has taken every chance to downplay and scoff at Obama's deadline for withdrawal:

June 27, 2010 - Less than a year ago, General David Petraeus saluted smartly and pledged his loyal support for President Obama’s decision to start withdrawing U.S. forces from Afghanistan in July 2011. In December, when Obama decided (for the second time in 2009) to add tens of thousands of additional American forces to the war, he also slapped an 18-month deadline on the military to turn the situation around and begin handing security over to the bedraggled Afghan National Army and police. Speaking to the nation from West Point, Obama said that he’d ordered American forces to start withdrawing from Afghanistan at that time.

Here’s the exchange, between Obama, Petraeus, and Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as reported by Jonathan Alter in his new book, The Promise: President Obama, Year One:

OBAMA: "I want you to be honest with me. You can do this in 18 months?"

PETRAEUS: "Sir, I'm confident we can train and hand over to the ANA [Afghan National Army] in that time frame."

OBAMA: "If you can't do the things you say you can in 18 months, then no one is going to suggest we stay, right?"

PETRAEUS: "Yes, sir, in agreement."

MULLEN: "Yes, sir."

Obama officials moving away from 2011 Afghan date:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has decided to begin publicly walking away from what it once touted as key deadlines in the war in Afghanistan in an effort to de-emphasize President Barack Obama's pledge that he'd begin withdrawing U.S. forces in July 2011, administration and military officials have told McClatchy.

The new policy will be on display next week during a conference of NATO countries in Lisbon, Portugal, where the administration hopes to introduce a timeline that calls for the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces from Afghanistan by 2014, the year when Afghan President Hamid Karzai once said Afghan troops could provide their own security, three senior officials told McClatchy, along with others speaking anonymously as a matter of policy.

The Pentagon also has decided not to announce specific dates for handing security responsibility for several Afghan provinces to local officials and instead intends to work out a more vague definition of transition when it meets with its NATO allies.

What a year ago had been touted as an extensive December review of the strategy now also will be less expansive and will offer no major changes in strategy, the officials told McClatchy. So far, the U.S. Central Command, the military division that oversees Afghanistan operations, hasn't submitted any kind of withdrawal order for forces for the July deadline, two of those officials told McClatchy.

The shift already has begun privately and came in part because U.S. officials realized that conditions in Afghanistan were unlikely to allow a speedy withdrawal.

BTW, none of this cuts any ice with ME--I'm a believer in going down the rabbit hole and bringing back whatever's there. We'll never be a democracy without transparency on these issues. But I'm a lowly poster on Huffpo--what do I know?
==================================================

None of it cuts any ice with me either.

As far as us being lowly posters on HP:

That's certainly true, but according to how the founders set up this country, we're also the shareholders and bosses of those in office.  They work for us, not the CIA.  And unless they confront the situation and right it, they're working against us, We The People.  In the most elementary terms, they're tra!tors.  And until those reading comments like mine start wrapping their minds around this idea, there really is no hope of the nation getting back on track or anyone aspiring to the American Dream.  This noble experiment will be over.

Check this thread here and be sure to follow the links for the complete story:

To my knowledge, outgoing Democratic congressman Paul Kanjorski is one of several witnesses (4 or 5 other congressmen who Kanjorski hasn't identified) who can directly place George W. Bush and Condoleeza Rice at the scene of the conspiracy to deceive Congress into backing the attack on Iraq with evidence falsified by the CIA.

It's through Kanjorski's account that we learn the Bush-Cheney administration's scheme, which included the CIA's fabricating photographs for the explicit purpose of deceiving Congress into authorizating the use of military force in Iraq.

You'll also learn in the thread just how Cheney's expertise, his knowledge of Congress and the subcommittee process, was the vehicle for hiding the t0rture from Pelosi and Congress, and how John Murtha was used.

The other thing that's significant is how this also plays into ending DADT.  Obama and Democrats are not doing everything in their power to end it.  Not now, that the House has fallen to Republican control, and certainly not before the midterms or when Obama came into power on 1/20/09 and Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress.

Right before the midterms I asked commenters here if they thought Democrats would be as effective at obstructing Republicans as the Republicans as the minority party have been these past 4 years at obstructing Democrats.

Obama's been giving silent assent and aid to Republicans by not taking to the bully pulpit over this and all issues.  Obama could certainly sign a stop-loss order (read my previous comments here and here before you give me the standard knee-j3rk response about a new president overturning it).

As AxelDC said:

This was an obvious case for reconciliation.  The bill is the DoD budget, and reconcilliation is to avoid filibusters on budget issues.  The House overwhelmingly passed it, the Senate had 57 votes, and Reid and Obama refused to push it through.

What about a stop-loss order on Day 1?  Obama has that authority and Congress would have to override him.

Instead, he thought he would be too clever by half and predictibly fail in the Senate and hope the public would punish Republicans for it.  Didn't quite work out that way did it?  Either pass it in reconciliation in December or the courts will have to do what Obama refuses to do.

The audacity of campaigning, the timidity of governing.

Yesterday, Joe Lieberman leaked that 3 Republicans might sign onto repealing DADT if the process was "fair", i.e., if Republicans could add amendments onto the defense budget bill, among other things.  I think this is the deal, agreeing to the Bush-Cheney 'Long War', continuing to kick the can down the road for ending these wars, is what Obama agreed to to get 3 Republicans to consider voting to repeal DADT.  I think Obama's looking for cover, to hide behind Republicans, for his deceit about not fulfilling his promise to end these wars.

Obama and Democrats don't need 60 -- They can put the repeal of DADT in the defense budget bill and pass it through reconciliation.  50 + Biden.

Obama & Democrats ran on putting the wars on the budget, with no more supplemental emergency spending bills to pay for these wars.  Funding the wars through supplementals was how Bush & Cheney managed to avoid congressional oversight & public scrutiny.

After close to two years of controlling both Houses of Congress & the WhiteHouse, Democrats are continuing the funding of the wars through supplementals.

What's significant about this?  A couple of things:

When the funding of wars goes 'on budget', congressional committees & subcommittees then hold hearings & investigations into US policies, about US interests around the world, from which the UnitedState's overall foreign & military policies are derived.  That's how civilian-control over the US military takes place:  Through the citizens' chosen representatives choosing weapons systems & overseeing US military operations & installations, plans & policies, etc.

This doesn't happen with supplemental spending bills.

The nature of them is, "It's an emergency, we're running out of money, give us $80 billion now (that's the magic sum, invariably $80 billion) or you won't be 'supporting the troops'...We'll talk about it later".

"Later" doesn't happen.

The $80 billion ploy is so the American people think they're always talking about the same $80 billion.

I know, I know, "How is that possible that the average American wouldn't realize it's not the same $80 billion when it's year in& year out?"  The average American is just barely keeping it all together as it is & fighting for his life(style).

Committees in both Houses of Congress have either never begun investigations into fraud and abuse, or dropped investigations (both on what happened during the Bush administration and afterwards), yet Congress is doing no oversight, & thieving criminal private contractors are still being awarded government contracts.

Bill Clinton ignored repeated opportunities to capture Osama bin Laden
========================================================

Arrested for what?

There was no evidence at the time that bin Laden had committed any crimes against American citizens.

There still isn't any.  The FBI has no evidence linking him to 9/11.  It's not even mentioned in their 'Most Wanted' webpage on him.

Maybe because he's a conservative?

Don't you recall how, in the year prior to the 9/11 and the invasion of Afghanistan, Mavis Leno was lobbying for the invasion of Afghanistan and the overthrow of the Taliban because of the Taliban's abuse of women?

The American people were played, and until there is a real and thorough investigation of 9/11, we're never going to know the full extent of the criminal conspiracy controlling our government.

There's plenty to rail against Democrats for.  Beginning with those who refused to read the NIE that was made available to them in a locked and guarded room in Congress.  Hillary Clinton, even after being advised by Bob Graham to go to the room and read it before she voted, didn't.  She also claims that she didn't talk her vote to authorize Bush to use military force in Iraq over with her husband, who as a former president got the same daily intelligence briefing that Bush got, and knew that it was trumped up twattle.

But here's the real smoking gvn, about the true nature of Democrats, and their not being any different than Republicans:

From CNN, 2002 ... just a reminder about the Dem support at the time ...

Senate approves Iraq war resolution
===============================================

Just a reminder about Democratic support at the time:

Bush got the AUMF (Authorization to Use Military Force in Iraq) from Congress based on his assurances that it was only to bolster his 'bullying Saddam Hussein'-strategy, and that he would go back to the UN for its authorization and come back to Congress before he did anything.

Bush did neither.

Let's also remember that among Bush's many l!es in those chaotic days (chaos he and Cheney created to prevent clear thinking and decision-making, by both members of Congress, the media and the American people), was that Saddam Hussein had thrown UN weapons inspectors out of Iraq (he hadn't -- It was Bush who advised UN weapons inspectors to leave Iraq, as war was imminent (Bush, you may recall, was "loosing his patience" with Saddam and making all sorts of claims about Saddam and WMD that the inspectors were saying wasn't true).

And, lastly, let's also remember that Bush's ultimatum about regime change in Iraq (who the h3ll was Bush to be issuing ultimatums about a sovereign country?) and giving Saddam Hussein 48 hours to leave the country actually got the result Bush was claiming to want.  Saddam agreed to exile.  But that wasn't what Bush (and the Arab League) wanted, and so he ignored it, pretended it hadn't happened, and went ahead with the war.  All of this was unbeknownst to and out of the oversight of Congress (it's important to also remember John Bolton ordering NSA intercepts on members of our government at that time).

Why are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney being allowed to crawl back into polite society to rehabilitate their images and the Bush and Cheney family names, and spread revisionist history about 9/11, WMD in Iraq, the economic meltdown, and the nightmare they've caused us and the world?

Why aren't they having to spend 24/7 with their lawyers, working on a way to stay out of prison?

Oh, that's right, I forgot: Because Obama and the DLC-Democrats have blocked all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney and Republicans, and have allowed them to resurrect themselves and take back control over government.

And because of Obama's failure to restore the Constitution and return us to the rule of law, by holding Bush, Cheney, et al, accountable, JEB Bush was all over the news on election night as the man behind Florida's new Tea Party Senator, Marco Rubio. So expect a Jeb Bush run at the presidency in the not-to-di tant-future. Perhaps with Liz Cheney on the ticket with him.

This is Obama's fault -- The buck stops squarely at his feet.

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastation that Bush-Cheney had caused the nation. And Obama issued Bush-Cheney and Republicans (essentially) a pardon.  None of them express any remorse or contrition.  As a matter of fact, they're rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-and-dicing Social Security, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that would help the People.

And even now, Obama wants to continue to make nice with them, cave some more, water down Democratic values & legislation.

Obama's not any kind of real Democrat; he's a DINO.

And if you didn't like the Republican Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 10), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

And last week's release of the chairmen of the Deficit Commission's recommendations was the opening salvo for a plan that will get adopted -- Cutting Social Security benefits, raising the age, and privatizing the Social Security trust fund, whole or in part (Democrats have already signaled they're amenable to it).  Obama's already announced that if 14 of the 18 can agree on a plan, he's on board, and there are already more than 14 on the commission that support privatization.

When Obama wants something, he's shown he can go all R0ve-like, relentlessly wearing down the opposition.  The problem is that he and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party don't want what the Democratic voters put them into power to get.
