Primary Results: So Much For That Anti-Incumbent Rage!

I bet she'll think long and hard about crossing the unions and progressives again.

====================================

Why?

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

Just about all incumbent Democrats have this nasty habit of appealing to the left in primaries, doing just enough to fool the base into believing they're with them, and then once their seats are safe, it's back to business as usual. Big Business.

Arkansas leftwing activists need to assign 'minders' to you and your parents, keep you all from falling for the dark side.

Corporations Won't Self-Regulate

What happened here wasn't the result of deregulation (although I agree that we must reregulate industries across the board); this was the failure of government oversight.

There's no way to safely drill for oil offshore; it's d@mned near impossible on land.

What we're seeing is a failure of leadership by our government to respond with ACTION (put BP into temporary receivership, mobilize a work force to lay & properly maintain boom, prevent oil from getting to barrier islands & coastlines, get tankers & skimmers from all corners to siphon up the oil, etc.). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho2_T-BkJxA

Obama's waiting until the fall (or even later) for BP's solution (a relief well that may not actually repair what may be a blown casing beneath the rock formation) is a luxury we can ill afford.

Obama has the power & the ability to transform not only the region, but the woes of the entire country, by seizing this moment & delivering what he campaigned on: A new economy based on GREEN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT.

Obama's let every opportunity to undo the damage that BushCheney & Republicans have done, everything from breaking up the banks & Wall St. to real job stimulus, go by the wayside.

Democratic politicians dream of moments like those we've experienced these past 18 months, to effect real change, to connect themselves to the People through their inner FDRs, but all that Obama's doing is channeling HerbertHoover.

Through that committee's chairman, Max Baucus, Obama set the terms for the bill that would ultimately be adopted into law, by eliminating single payer universal health care from consideration and all advocates of public health care. No seat at the table.

And THEN, Obama cut secret deals with hospitals, insurance companies and PhRma on profits, and L!ED about it when it was discovered:

Since mid-July, the White House and the drug industry’s Washington lobby, PhRMA, have denied any specific agreement that would give the industry big benefits in exchange for its support for President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul effort.

give me some specifics about this "conceding before negotiations ever begin."

==========================

After running on a public option (yes, he did - http://campaignsilo.firedoglake.com/2009/09/10/yes-obama-campaigned-on-a-public-option/), and negotiating for lower drug costs and reimportation, and transparency in the legislative process (""Meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public, no more secrecy.....No more secrecy....." - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQbQTrm_pSA and, "Clintons did health care the wrong way, behind closed doors" -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvyharXBI0Q ), Obama stated that it's Congress's job to come up with a bill, he was staying out of it.

Obama provided the different congressional committees working on healthcare bills with specifics that he wanted to see in the legislation ("doesn't add to the deficit", for example), but how Congress achieved it was up to Congress. The People noticed that Obama was waffling on his pledges (public option, no mandates) at which point Obama threw his "transparency"-pledge under the bus, and went to work undercutting all of the congressional committees working on healthcare reform legislation except one: The Senate Finance Committee.

BP's Approved Spill Plan 'Riddled With Omissions And Glaring Errors'

It's not Obama's failure to "come down hard enough on BP", or his lack of emotion.

It's his failure to respond with ACTION (put BP into temporary receivership, mobilize a work force to lay & properly maintain boom, prevent oil from getting to barrier islands & coastlines, get tankers & skimmers from all corners to siphon up the oil, etc.). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho2_T-BkJxA

There's a lot more technology that can be used to manage this disaster that isn't being used, yet BP spends $50 million on a public relations campaign to improve its image & hand out over $10 billion in dividends to its shareholders.

Obama's doing nothing but waiting until the fall (or even later) for BP's solution (a relief well that may not actually repair what may be a blown casing beneath the rock formation) is a luxury we can ill afford.

Blanche Lincoln WINS Arkansas Senate Runoff, Defeats Bill Halter

The Garland County circuit court docket reflects a lawsuit has been filed against the Garland County Election Commission, presumably over the total screwup of elections there: 1) reducing runoff polling places from 42 to 2; 2) agreeing to open polls on Saturday for early voting, then not telling anyone that the law didn't allow it.

The big issue, naturally, was the scarcity of polls in a county with a big vote and lots of ground to cover. Many questions remain to be answered: 1) What actions were taken by the Election Commission in public vote and when? An election commission has two Democrats and one Republican in Arkansas currently. 2) Did the county clerk carry out required duties under the law on notification of any pollling changes made by the commission? 3) Why in the heII did Commission Chairman Charles Tapp claim the decision was a cost-saving move for the county when the state pays election costs?

If Blanche Lincoln wins tonight there might be lots of legal discovery to figure out what happened.

UPDATE: The Garland County Democratic Committee has asked for Tapp's resignation. He has until 5 p.m. Friday, or whenever the vote is certified, whichever comes first.
