The one big thing that I think can not be denied is that America elected an African American to the presidency. The symbolism is powerful and the reverberations will continue on for a long time.

Yes, America elected a black man to the presidency. That can't be denied. Had Hillary been elected, we would be having this same discussion, same circumstances, and we'd be saying that it can't be denied that America elected a woman to the presidency, and that the symbolism is powerful and the reverberations will continue on for a long time.
But what's the achievement? What's the realization? That blacks and women can be as corrupt as white men?
Ok.
I really wanted and believed that the 'first' of anything in the United States should be 'the best'. That's what sets the standard for all others that follow. For emulating greatness.

When you & your family's basic security needs (& more) have been met for a generation or two (or more), & your family & friends have networked with others in the same situation, your sights become set higher than life as most of us know it, i.e., working a 40-hour week until we can retire with a pension, then golf and play with the grandchildren. When not concerned with providing for your basic survival, when your needs & wants in life are assured from your first breath to your last, you're freed up to get into all sorts of mischief.

Many people go through their lives making, very generally, long and short terms goals, & not necessarily in this order, like going to college, getting a job, finding someone to fall in love with and marry, buying a home/car/f
Some people hyper-manage these decisions (going to a particular college/university, getting a job with a particular company or firm, etc.), and others who plan for one to 5 years down the road (or from goal to goal, as each goal is achieved, and may spend their entire lives working on achieving just one or two things). I think the latter group account for most Americans, along with growing numbers who don't make goals or plans for their lives, who go through life passively, letting life happen to them instead of getting out in front of the curve.
I think it's very difficult for those who make general plans for their lives and those who make none (middle & poor classes) to understand or even believe that there are inner-directed, extremely driven people who make plans for achievement not only for themselves, but for their children, their businesses and for the nation and world at large.

Obama's in the White House to talk our rational minds into accepting the greatest heist in the history of the world being perpetrated on us, and never even think about trying to get back the money that was ripped off from the middle & poor classes, and to ease our transition into a third world nation.
Obama is the grifter leading off the 2nd half of the con game, which is to squeeze the rest of the dimes from the poor & middle classes. That began with part two of Bush's Medicare Reform Act of 2003 (high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls), and continues with his Debt Commission that's going to cut Social Security & Medicare, privatize the Social Security trust fund, then follow up with more *AFTA treaties which will outsource of the rest of Americans' jobs.

If you must continue to delude yourself into thinking Obama's a good guy who'd never have started those wars, & who has only the best of intentions but got a bad deal (I don't share that opinion anymore), then think of all this as a business plan where the Corporate Masters have charted out their plans years in advance (governments do it, too) & select the politician /personality best able to achieve those plans in 4 year increments.
If you want to l!e the country into war for oil & war-profiteering, then George W.Bush is your man to front it (with Dick Cheney, the former Secretary of Defense who initiated the privatizing of the military a decade earlier actually running the operation from the shadows).
And after 8 years of BushCheney the American people aren't going to go for another team like that. They're going to want HOPE & CHANGE, with a persona they can believe in & trust: Barack Obama.
The truth is that Obama is no better than BushCheney. Not better, not worse, but the same. His 'most ardent admirers' just like the packaging better. I'm not talking skin color, although that may be a factor for some; I'm talking about how a 'D' after the name is a brand they trust believe & trust in, despite the fact that it's the same 'soap' (product).

No, Obama & Emanuel blocked all investigations into what actual Republicans did to the US (Bush-Chen
Obama & RahmEmanuel have never gone after the Republican leadership directly. Not MitchMcConnell, not JohnBoehner, not EricCantor, not JohnMcCain (the titular head of the Party, as the last presidential nominee).
Why?
Because SarahPalin (and anyone else 'Tea Partyish') is who the Obama & the DLC-controlled DemocraticParty wants to run against. Both in 2010, but especially in 2012. Obama wants to drive a wedge between the base of the RepublicanParty that controls the RepublicanParty (far rightwing extremists) & the rest of the RepublicanParty (plain old rightwing conservatives & moderate Republicans) for the purpose of trying to attract the latter (Republican politicians & their supporters) into the DemocraticParty. To make the DemocraticParty into a national 'majority corporate party', by marginalizing both the far rightwing extremists currently controlling the RepublicanParty & the base of the DemocraticParty. In order "to govern for 100 years".
Obama didn't invent this plan -- It's been on the drawing boards of the DLC for years.
The election last week did nothing to change the plan.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama & Democrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like CivilRights protections, restoring HabeasCorpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, WallStreetReform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).
If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that Bush & R0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.
Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush & Cheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?
Obama & Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.
The trick for them's been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objectives.

MSNBC Wants Keith Olbermann Mea Culpa
I think that for MSNBC to be telling Mike Allen that Olbermann said, "He didn't know he was barred from making political contributions" (not true) means that MSNBC's brass is trying to save face, and making the situation worse by Iying about Olbermann.
Olbermann is NOT barred from making political contributions -- NBC's policy is that he must get approval to do it.
I don't see how that possibly would stand up if challenged in court.
I suspect that the backlash from Olbermann's fans and the public in general to a dictatorial policy that has employers thinking they can control employees' votes is making it very hot for Phil Griffin within the corporation.

It appears that MSNBC's plan is to try to prevail by the old authoritarian method of dividing & conquering the groups sympathetic to Olbermann. The pressure that the MSNBC brass must have put on Rachel Maddow to weigh in on her program this past Friday (I think wrongly) must have been overwhelming. She's trying to walk a fine line, and it shows how, by not staying true to convictions, by trying to be all things to all people, you serve no one (least of all yourself). But Rachel's been doing that for a while now, and she's losing her edge (and her soul).

That said, what happens at Fox (or CNN for that matter) has nothing to do with this, IMHO. Cable channel news has contaminated the ethical guidelines for news organizations. For half the day, MSNBC is a news aggregator, with on camera readers. I'd hardly call any of them journalists, with the exception of Andrea Mitchell and David Gregory -- Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying GOOD journalists, just that they are journalists.
The other half of the day, MSNBC is in the opinion business, and the 'sensationalist tabloid'-business with their s3x offender stings and 'Spend your weekend with us in a maximum security prison'-programs.
Neither Rachel, nor Keith, nor Ed Schultz, nor Lawrence O'Donnell, are journalists. O'Donnell gave us government service decades ago to go into show biz, not only producing theatrical productions but acting in them (West Wing).
These are on-air personalities, in the same category of Rush Limbaugh. They have a point of view and it's not unbiased. They would admit to that. They're in the entertainment business, making the events of the day entertaining.

Either Mike Allen got it wrong, or "the network sources" that Mike Allen talked to are trying to muddy the public debate with inaccuracies.
Olbermann is not barred by NBC from making campaign contributions; NBC's policy is that Olbermann must notify them first to get their approval.
I'd like to see Olbermann take that to court, and I would love to see any court in this land that an employer has any right to know an employee's political activities -- from contributions to voting. Not even quasi-news organizations' employees.
In the old days, before news divisions were folded into the entertainment divisions at the networks, journalists were discouraged from even voting to maintain their impartiality. Few did. Some news organizations also forbid journalists exercising First Amendment rights, like participating in political rallies and marches. If you wanted the job, you weren't to cast aspersions on the news organization's reputation that you were working for by appearing the least bit biased.

Over the course of US history, corporations have managed to game our political system, & done it so effectively that the two-party system competes to serve corporate interests while defending that service as, "What's good for GM (corporations) is good for America (We the People)".

Politicians take terrible advantage of Americans' naivete and weak understanding of the art & science of linguistics and propaganda.
When a politicians says "We got millions of people health insurance who didn't have health insurance before", while it's a true statement, it's not what Obama & Democrats were put into power to do about our failed healthcare system.
Having insurance doesn't mean affordable, quality medical care for everyone. It doesn't mean being able to get necessary medical treatment. There are no cost controls, & as we've already seen, insurance companies have been rising their rates. There are no limits on deductibles or co-pays. And while someone with a pre-existing condition may be able to get health insurance, it may not pay for medical costs relating to that pre-existing condition. The list of 'outs' for insurance companies is long, but the requirements for People to pay is mandatory & will be collected, if not directly, then through the long arm of the IRS.
Before all else, Obama's a lawyer. Legislation, contracts, all agreements (formal & casual), require precise language with set definitions. Obama's slow & deliberate speaking style is about choosing the right words to confuse listeners into believing one thing when he means another. ALL successful politicians do it, .
If Americans are going to have to learn how to listen better to what politicians are actually saying.

Democratic voters, for the most part, still haven't finished their love affair with Bill Clinton.
Like the real debate & assessment of Reagan that's never happened, we've never assessed Clinton's true legacy. Eliminating the social welfare safety nets, Glass-Steagle, the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, rendition, privatization, the sanctions & daily bombing of Iraq (& so much more) laid the foundation for what BushCheney did to decimate the country. As AlanGreenspan said, "Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we've had in a while."
The same is so for Obama. More so.
The DLC's pitch for not throwing Democratic incumbents out of office last week was "Do you want to return to the failed policies of BushCheney & Republicans?"
When did we ever leave them?
Obama's been continuing just about all of the BushCheney policies, and the DLC-controlled Congress has been watering down real Democratic legislation, turning it into Republican legislation.
Republicans love it -- They get, generally, what they want (or what they can build on later) & don't have to vote for it, which satisfies their base's need for knee-jerk tribal warfare between the 2 political parties (how many times have you heard Republican tr0IIs declare that a bill "must be bad if Democrats are for it"?), AND, it satisfies their & Democrats' shared Corporate Masters. They get amply rewarded with great big donations to their reelection campaigns.
What Obama's been doing should be shocking to all real Democratic voters.

Obama, RahmEmanuel, the DLC, DavidAxelrod, DavidPlouffe, worked their butts off to prevent real progressives getting into office. One example right off the bat is Blanche Lincoln.
The White House put its full weight & support behind Blanche Lincoln over the true progressive (& union-backed) candidate in the primary, Bill Halter.
This wasn't unlike when Obama made a deal with Arlen Specter and put the full weight and support of the Democratic machine behind Specter during the 2010 primary in Pennsylvania, trying to buy off (among other alternative candidates Democratic voters in PA might have wanted to vote to have representing them) Joe Sestak. Consider that -- Obama actively went about trying to prevent Democratic voters from choosing their preferred candidate for the US so that a DINO, Republican Arlen Specter, could retain the seat.
But more progressives in Congress means real populist legislation getting passed into law. Real reform bills, that re-regulate banks & big business. Real stimulus bills, with jobs creation, green clean energy development, and more. But that's not who or what Obama & the DLC-controlled Democrats are about.

It was the greatest heist in the history of the world, and both parties are in it together, the first stealing the money and then the second blocking investigations, prosecutions, refusing to recover the money and letting them cover their tracks.
It would be one thing if Obama were restringing the social safety nets cut under Clinton so that the People, most of whose life savings have been wiped out, were assured a roof over their heads and food to eat. But he's not.
Instead, Obama is setting up the Great Heist's parts 2 and 3 and 4, which are to squeeze the last dimes out of the middle & poor classes, with the privatization of Social Security and cuts to Social Security & Medicare benefits, high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls (or guarantees of coverage, or universal coverage), and the outsourcing of the rest of Americans' jobs with the coming *AFTA treaties that Obama & the *new* Republican Congress are going to pass.
There can be no fixing this mess, no trusting these b*stard politicians, no "looking forward, until there is LOOKING BACK, investigating and prosecuting and RESTITUTION.
Obama and the DLC-controlled Democrats are as crooked as the Republicans & Bush-Cheney gang.
