Not 'So Be It'

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama and Democrats want what they want. The DLC-controlled Democratic Party gives lip service to all populist issues (like living wages, civil rights protections, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, public healthcare, Wall Street reform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid and relentless in your sales pitch and tactics. It's not that Bush and R0ve were geniuses and knew something that nobody else knew; Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians and the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans -- If you keep at it, escalate your attacks,  don't take 'no' for an answer and never back away, you will wear the opposition down.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) and the oldest, most experienced politicians in US history (including the R0ve machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush and Cheney off the table, have us still reelecting them and not marching on Washington with torches and pitchforks?

Obama and Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.

The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to achieve our alleged shared objectives.

Getting Democratic voters (and Obama's 'most ardent supporters') to understand that Democratic politicians have been taking us all for suckers and patsies is the most immediate problem and the challenge.

Budget Baloney: Why Social Security Isn't a Problem for 26 Years, and the Best Way to Fix It Permanently

When politicians say that "Social Security is the third rail of politics", they mean it with a hostility that should be reserved for their Corporate Masters.  You don't see politicians putting campaign finance and election reform on their agenda from year to year as you do their continuing assaults on social safety net programs for the People.

To politicians, We The People are the problem.  If only they didn't have to deal with making us happy to get our votes that keep them employed.  If only they didn't have to serve us, they'd be able to give and give and give to Big Business (privatize national resources that belong collectively to us, the People) and deregulate so that corporations wouldn't be constrained by anything, become profit-making machines, unobstructed by piddling voter concerns, such as  health, safety, environment, etc.  And for this, politicians would be amply rewarded, and perhaps would eventually be able to join the ruling class.

You can choose to think of Obama and his intentions in whatever way makes you happy.  What you can't do is explain how any of what Obama's done these past two years has been in the People's and not the Corporations' interests.

Government Spending Goes From Hero To Goat

In two separate conference calls with journalists yesterday, one with progressive bloggers and one with a larger collection of local and national reporters, the ObamaAdministration emphasized that the cuts in its budget proposal represent “shared sacrifice.” Americans of all regions and income levels will feel the brunt of “tough choices” which have to be made in order to bring the budget back into balance.

I was able to attend both of these conference calls. On the call with a wider range of journalists, administration officials faced repeated questions from local reporters pertaining to program cuts that impacted their specific localities. Time and again, NationalEconomicCouncilDirector GeneSperling said that the administration did not consider those programs--ranging from LIHEAP to GreatLakes cleanup efforts to programs in Alaska--to be waste. While these programs did a lot of good for a lot of people, and while PresidentObama personally supported and cared about those programs, they were an example of the shared sacrifice all Americans, including the ObamaAdministration, had to make during a severe fiscal crisis.

By emphasizing that the budget includes cuts to programs PresidentObama cares about, the WhiteHouse seeks to demonstrate that it is participating in the shared sacrifice they are calling on all Americans to make. Additionally, they appear to be trying to counter the notion that government spending is itself inherently wasteful, just that the current economic and political climate forces us to make “tough choices.” There is also a breakup mentality in their talking points, very much like “this is hard for me, you’re a super guy / lady, I really care about you, and I hope that we can still be friends.”

I asked OMB communications chief KenBaer what shared sacrifices the budget proposal placed on higher income Americans. Baer responded the administration’s budget proposal reduced the itemized deductions wealthier Americans could claim on their tax returns, and also raised taxes on Americans making more than $250,000 a year.

I pointed out that those changes to the tax code were extremely unlikely to ever become law, given they were just extended two months ago and that Republicans now control the House of Representatives. By contrast, the cuts to programs serving lower income Americans were practically guaranteed to pass. So, the net result of the proposal is that higher income Americans won’t have to sacrifice anything.

Vast sums have been borrowed from China, from Saudi Arabia, which We The People are on the hook for, are paying interest only on (so we will be making payments for the rest of our lives, and our children and grandchildren will be doing the same thing), while the borrowed money has gone directly into the offshore accounts of the rich, of the defense contractors, etc.

There was a huge party for the rich, they put cases of champagne and caviar into their Rolls Royces, drove off, and left us to deal with the catering bills.  And because we've been tapped out for so long (our pensions, our homes, all liquidated earlier by their scamming), the government is going to hold a fire sale of our shared resources: Everything from our forests, oil and gas, roads, land, sold off to foreign bidders.

That's the best analogy for what's going on.

The most BS argument to date:  "The cuts and the pain must be shared by all".

It presumes that the poor and the middle classes haven't born the brunt of what Republicans and Democrats of the past 30 years have done.

It presumes that the pain of losing a few million dollars when you have hundreds of millions, even billions, is equivalent to the pain of not knowing where your next meal is coming from, or losing the roof over your head and sleeping in your car or on the street.

No, Democrats really do have to speak.

We've been doing it the DLC's way (remaining mute about liberalism) for over 20 years now, and where it's mired us in are Chrlstian conservatives' ecstatical dreams for society.

While Democrats believed they didn't really have to say anything, women now can't get an abortlon in 87 percent of the counties in the US.

There are 3 states in the country that have only one abortion clinic, and other states heavily restrict abortlon, ban abortlons in clinics or any facility that receives public funds, or ban abortlon counseling or clinic recommendations.  Kansas has to fly in a physician to perform abortions once a week.

Why bother making it illegal if you can just make it impossible to get?

Obama's healthcare reform legislation = ending insurance coverage of abortlon services.

http://news.firedoglake.com/2009/11/17/gwu-study-yes-the-stupak-amendment-would-end-coverage-of-abortion-services-over-time/

It's gotten us into debt farther than our eyes can possibly see through all of the toxic pollution that New World Order Corporations have dumped on our lands, in our waters, and released in our air.

We're a bankrupted nation that manufactures nothing, with an infant mortality rate below Cuba's. The DLC went along with Republican legislation that deregulated education, industries, environmental safety, financial institutitions, that has led to a destroyed middle class.

The DLC moved the DemocraticParty to the right, and made it a haven for moderate Republicans, leaving the RepublicanParty to evangelical Christians, white separatists, and  neocons.

When are Democrats planning on speaking out, and giving voters an alternative vision to this nightmare that Republicans have created?

It's why we say that Republicans only love people before they're born, not after.  Republicans certainly don't care about the women who they want to force to continue pregnancies that they either don't want or are injurious to their health.  And Republicans really don't care about the children they're forcing on parents who don't want them, dooming them to lives of poverty and neglect and real slavery (wages, physical and emotional abuse).

Mike Huckabee Compares Abortion To Slavery

Democrats have been more than willing to sell out any of the groups which have supported them and their interests, but particularly women's:

You can't get an abortlon in 87 percent of the counties in the US.

There are 3 states in the country that have only one abortion clinic, and other states heavily restrict abortlon, ban abortlons in clinics or any facility that receives public funds, or ban abortlon counseling or clinic recommendations.

Why bother making it illegal if you can just make it impossible to get?

Obama's healthcare reform legislation = ending insurance coverage of abortlon services.

Even the most pro-choice of Democrats in Congress, alleged stalwarts who've spent entire careers, decades in public office, have failed miserably to protect women's rights and have let it get to this point.  One example would be Barbara Boxer.

In 2006, Democratic senators and the Democratic machine publicly supported Democratic candidate NedLamont who was running for senator in Connecticut against newly independent JoeLieberman.  Privately, working behind-the-scenes, Democratic senators and former president BillClinton were working to help Lieberman raise money to beat Lamont, and Republican AlanSchlesinger. Before Lamont won the primary, when Lieberman was still a Democrat, Boxer stumped for Lieberman.  She was asked how she could support him given that Lieberman supports hospitals receiving public monies refusing to give contraceptives to r@pe victims, and instead of dodging Lieberman, dropping him like the bad character he is, she dodged the issue.

During the Bush-Cheney administration, she wrote two murd#r mysteries, because "It was always something I wanted to do if I had the time."

In the 2010 midterm campaign, I asked rhetorically, "If Republicans win back control of Congress, do you think Democrats will be as effective at stymieing Republicans' agenda as Republicans have been the last two years at stymieing Obama's/Democrats' 2008 agenda?"  Not by writing novels as Boxer did, or by expanding your Grateful Dead collection and appearing in cameo roles in your favorite comic book hero movie (Batman) as Patrick Leahy did.  All on the public's dime.

Democrats in public office haven't been taking care of us.  They're not vigilant about our issues.

Mike Huckabee Compares Abortion To Slavery

Where are Democrats countering this garbage?  Where are the women challenging these men who have not had to bringing unwanted children to term?  Where are the women challenging these men who have never been primary caregivers to their own children, who have pawned off the child-rearing to their wives?

Where are the Democrats shouting down these fanatics who insist on imposing their reIigious values on everyone?  Where are the Democrats educating the American people about what is a Constitutional right?

Seriously, Mike, who gives a chit?

You see a photograph like this, of Obama honoring a war criminal, a man who committed treason, and all you can think of is a group of Republicans who question the vetting of presidential candidates?

Obama plays ball with these people.  He doesn't care that they question his qualifications for the office.  It's a great distractor, it helps him appear generous and even-keeled while he satisfies their agenda and gives away the store to them.
