Polling Lessons For Obama From Oklahoma City

It's not like Obama and Democrats are talking about the real cause of and solution for the events on Saturday (expansion of mentaI heaIth services and gvn control legisIation) -- Obama and Democrats are still making it all about "inciviIity".

Obama should be using the power of the bully pulpit, and the opportunity of the *shock&awe* of last Saturday, and his poll numbers to call for the dramatic expansion of mental health services across the nation (how about now for reintroducing the public option?) and for gun control laws.

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid and relentless in your sales pitch and tactics. If you keep at it, escalate your attacks,  don't take 'no' for an answer, never back away, you will wear the opposition down.  By the way, Bush-Cheney-R0ve weren't geniuses, they didn't invent this strategy, nor was it something that political operatives didn't know or that political science students don't learn in poli sci 101.  Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politicians and the political parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans, be more subtle about.

What Bush-Cheney-Rove showed Democrats, though, was that there was no need to be subtle. It doesn't matter how you get the rhetoric, the spin, on the table, just get it on the table.  You don't have to go to great lengths to set up a logical or legitimate premise for it.  The shock&awe tactics of having surrogates fan out all over the air waves, with other diversionary news stories competing for air time, will prevent opponents challenging you with logical analyses getting any air time, much less any traction.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) will introduce legislation next week capping ammunition magazines at 10 bullets, she announced Thursday... Republican leaders have aligned themselves squarely against gun reforms proposed even by members of their own party."

"They" are the cosponsors of this legislation - that's how the process works - "They" will not get the bill on the floor because the Rs control the House - feel the 'knocking on your skull" - that's reality knocking.
The reality is that if the Dems - especially if Obama - spends a lot of time on this - they are:
1) not going to get anywhere and
2) not going to win in 2012 - which means it will go nowhere for the next four years.

===========================================

Are you ever mixed up and turned around.

McCarthy's bill is going nowhere BECAUSE Obama and the Democratic leadership aren't getting behind it.

What do you think the point of high polling numbers is, what the bully pulpit of the president is for, if not to use to shepherd through legislation exactly like this after a *shock&awe* event?

Dem0crats.  Real Dem0crats.

My initial instinct was to say that your question is an abzurd 0T red herr1ng.

And then I realized that if you're under 40, DLCers are what you think Dem0crats are.  Even many Democratic v0ters over 40 don't know what DLCers are, who they are, and presume positions and beliefs of Dem0cratic p0Iiticians based that just aren't true, based on Democratic v0ters own beliefs as Dem0crats.

"Except that they ARE talking about mental health issues and gun control."

=============================================

Who's "they"?

The Obamas and Democratic leadership is talking about "incivility".  "Heated p0Iitical rhet0rlc.
Now what's interesting is in your very next breath you state, "Not to mention the fact that if they spend a lot of time making those the big fights - they will lose in 2012. The main issue right now - like it or not - is jobs."

Obama and Dems are doing nothing about jobs either.

Where do you come off with believing "if they spend a lot of time making those the big fights they'll lose in 2012"?

Here's an idea: Let's not talk about anything, let's continue not doing anything, so as not to risk 2012.

When elected officials stopped actually doing the job of public servants, when only p0Iiticians took over the jobs and made it about winning reelection, that was when the decline of the U.S. began.

Is any of this resonating?  I feel like I'm knocking my knuckles on skulls like yours and getting nothing but hollow sounds.

To begin with, Obama has no intention of doing anything on this issue except trying to use it for partisan political purposes which have nothing to do with what caused this tr@gedy nor will it prevent something similar from happening again.

This comment of yours, "Every president that has dealt with a national tragedy had to come out with a strong speech to bring the country together" should have had you coming to your senses as it left your fingertips and before you hit 'post comment'.

Everything that Obama has done this week has been to NOT bring the country together.  He's trying to score che@p p0Iitical points by trying to hang this on the incivility of P@Iin and Llmb@ugh for his own p0Iitical gain (and not for the People's benefit), and whether you recognize it or not isn't important -- Those of us who are old experienced pols and ex-pols see it very clearly.

What probably burns me most about what Obama and the DLC-controlled Democrats are doing, is their making Bush look good by comparison.

The model for the memorial shouldn't have been 0kIahoma City, but V!rginia Tech.   At the time, it po'ed me that I had to deal with Bvsh's presence at all for that memorial, particularly because I knew that nothing was going to change just like now.  But at least the focus was on the v!ctims.  Bush and the powers-that-be, with all of their outrageous abuses, hadn't realized that they could get away with even robbing the v!ctims of the dignity of a memorial focused on them and Iip-service about "Never again!"

How ABOUT focusing on the victims, billy?  And the future victims, and not Obama's polling numbers.

PREVENTION is what Obama should be focused on.  Using his bully pulpit to go after the real cause.

Obama and Democrats have no intention of doing anything to prevent mentally iII people from getting we@p0ns or controlling their sale in any way.  It would wreck Obama's and Democrats p@ndering to the NRA and gvn advocates.

So all that remains to Obama is to try to use the situation to score p0Iitical points by dangling red meat (h8tred for P@I!n and Llmbaugh) in front of the low information Democratic voters.  We Democrats have them, too; look in the mirror.

If it hadn't have been G!ff0rds, et al, last Saturday, it would have been L0ughner's algebra classmates or some other group he passed in his daily travels.

What is it (American politics) to you, anyhow?

This h8-lingo that you use, by the way, is straight out of rightwing politics.  And when you use that lingo, that word in particular, you're disrespecting the very person you claim to love (Obama).  Before you accuse others and call them names, ask yourself, "What would Obama do?"

Obama's made his bed with the corporatocracy -- To work for and with the left means enacting Democratic policies, spending for social programs (expanding mental health services) and gun control legislation (the Democratic Party has been courting the gun lobby).

Obama is a DINO and the DLC has been working to move the Democratic Party even farther to the right-of-center than it already is, marginalize both the base of the Democratic Party (left) and the extreme rightwing of the Republican Party, attract moderate Republican politicians and their supporters into the Democratic Party, so that it can "govern from the center for 100 years".

If Bush was so bad (and I think he was|is), why is Obama blocking all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney administration?

If Bush was so bad, why is Obama continuing just about all Bush-Cheney policies (and going Bush-Cheney one better, with 'indefinite preventive detention' , torture and killing American citizens with no due process or oversight)?

Perhaps if Bill Clinton hadn't done the same thing for the Reagan-Bush administra tion, we wouldn't have been saddled with Bush-Cheney at all.

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastation that Bush-Cheney had caused the nation. Then Obama issued Bush-Cheney and Republicans essentially a pardon. None of them express any remorse or contrition, there's talk that we can expect the rehabilitated Bush family's next legacy to our nation for president in the not so distant future, Jeb Bush. As a matter of fact, Republicans are rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-dicing Social Security, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that belongs to We The People.

And Obama wants to continue to play nice with them, appeal to their sense of 'bipartisan cooperativeness'.

Bush's tax cuts for the rich are now Obama's tax cuts for the rich.

Obama's not the Democrat that you think he is. He's not any kind of Democrat; he's a DINO.

If you didn't like the Republican Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 8), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

Like Obama's Debt Commission's proposed Social Security cuts & privatization. Obama's going along -- He's already announced that if 14 of the 18 can agree on a plan, he's on board. All but one are for privatizing the Social Security trust fund.

Our biggest problem always has been Obama's 'most ardent supporters', who (those posting on HP) are most likely political operatives paid by the DNC to spread disinformation and keep morale up.

There's no way to win against Republicans unless you fight Republicans. The only Republicans Obama and Democrats fight are Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, two people with no job in government or the Republican Party.

There's no way to win against Republicans unless you fight Republicans.  The only Republicans Obama and Democrats fight are Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, two people with no job in government or the RepublicanParty.

Obama has set one bad precedent after another.  He's got to investigate and prosecute BushCo.  Unless he does, this noble experiment is over, and you might as well pick out a curb with a view now.

Polling Lessons For Obama From Oklahoma City

cowboyjerkface   34 minutes ago (7:13 PM)

So Marco....what has your buddies in the GOP and GW Bush done for the middle class?
=============================================================

I'm an old liberal Democrat, and there are many, MANY more like me, as you well know, you sock-puppet.

Obama's presidency = A continuation of the cruel & avaricious policies of Bush-Cheney

If Bush was so bad (and I think he was, is), why's Obama blocking all investigations and prosecutions of Bush-Cheney?

If Bush was so bad, why's Obama continuing just about all Bush-Cheney policies (and going Bush-Cheney one better, with 'indefinite preventive detention', t0rture and k!IIing American citizens with no due process or oversight)?

Perhaps if Bill Clinton hadn't done the same thing for the Reagan-Bush administration, we wouldn't have been saddled with Bush-Cheney at all.

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastation that Bush-Cheney had caused the nation. And Obama issued Bush-Cheney and Republicans (essentially) a pardon.  None of them express any remorse or contrition.  As a matter of fact, they're rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-dicing SocialSecurity, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that belongs to WeThePeople.

And Obama wants to continue to play nice with them.  Bush's tax cuts for the rich are now Obama's tax cuts for the rich.

Obama's not the Democrat that you think he is. He's not any kind of Democrat; he's a DINO.

If you didn't like the RepublicanParty of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 8), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' DemocraticParty from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

Polling Lessons For Obama From Oklahoma City

It gets the attention off of him and Democrats for refusing to address the events of last Saturday in any meaningful way -- Gun control and expansion of mental health services.

When Obama and Democrats are poised to make cuts in all domestic spending and slash Social Security and Medicare, they're not about to put money into mental health treatment.  And Democrats decided years ago not to take on corporate interests, the NRA or anything remotely relating to sane gvn laws.

Obama and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party is trying to move the Democratic Party even farther to the right-of-center than they've already taken it, turn it into the Republican Party of the 1950s to attract Republican politicians and their supporters into the Democratic Party.

To believe as you do means you really aren't paying attention and don't understand the state of our political system and government today.

Polling Lessons For Obama From Oklahoma City

If Obama gets a bump from the events of the past week, then all it will show is how effective even politicizing tragedies can be.

I'm an old OLD liberal Democrat (both personally and professionally) and those on the right who have harsh words for Obama and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party about their behavior since the shooting in Tucson aren't far off from the truth.  The DLC-controlled Democratic Party has been playing politics with this tragedy, and it began inside the White House gates on Saturday just after the shooting.

Just as Bush-Cheney politicized 9/11, Obama has politicized this, too, but, frankly, in a way that I find more disgusting and exploitational.

Shortly after the news broke of the shootings on Saturday, the White House released these photographs that made me and everyone I know who saw them (including past and present professional Democrats) shake our heads in disbelief (some even gasped audibly):

#1 - Obama being briefed in the White House Situation Room on the shootings in Tucson.  Pictured, left to right, National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, incoming Chief of Staff Bill Daley, Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, Director of Communications Dan Pfeiffer, and Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs Phil Schiliro. Also taking part in the call were Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr., Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and FBI Director Robert Mueller (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza

#2 - Obama talks with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on a cellphone in the hallway outside the Situation Room of the White House.

H0LY 'shades of planes circling the capitol on nine-eleven', Batman!

There was absolutely nothing remotely suggesting it was a national emergency, a terrorist attack on the nation, nor even any connection to the Tea Party (which even if there had been that level of threat, responsible government leaders wouldn't want to evoke a hysterical response by yelling "Fire" in this crowded and stressed theater). But the White House went into 'BushCheney on 9/11'-mode to exploit and play on the public's fears by releasing images like these.

If this wasn't bad enough, in the hours and days following, with all information to the contrary that this was a standard FBI-profile kind of mentally disturbed lone shooter, the White House and Democrats fanned out over the air waves to try to connect Loughner to the Tea Party and to Republicans (despite the fact that the FBI and Arizona police knew that Loughner's a registered Independent), "the result of overheated political rhetoric", and "all Limbaugh's and Palin's fault":

By 4:46 PM EST on the day of the shootings (1-8-2011) , Obama had moved to the White House State Dining Room to make this statement to the nation, and followed-up by official statements from these members of the Obama administration: Vice President Joe Biden, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Attorney General Eric Holder, and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.

On Monday, 1-10-2011, I turned on my television to these images.

Two hours later, Obama apparently felt he needed to conflate images of 'presidential leadership ' and the shootings by turning the subject again to the tragedy in Arizona when he and France's president (Nicholas Sarkozy) faced the traditional photo op gaggle after their meeting in the Oval Office.

And then that national memorial service political pep rally, where Obama continued to promote the false notion that Loughner's actions were the result of Republicans' partisan political divisiveness.

Michelle Obama stretched it out for another day with her 'open letter to parents'.

There's so much wrong about how Obama and Democrats are handling this situation, and it's all because nobody in Washington, Democrat or Republican, is going to do anything about the real causes (gun control and expansion of mental health services) to prevent it happening again.

When you realize that, you understand that how Obama and Democrats have acted, what they're saying was calculated, a political strategy to bash Republicans decided upon within the first minutes/hours after Loughner opened fire.

We lose all credibility doing that, and those doing it, perpetuating it, need to be denounced and drummed out of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party needs real public servants (and not DLCers behaving as Republicans) to address the People's problems and working to prevent tragedies like what happened in Tucson from ever happening again.

How?

Do you understand that We The People have been sacrificed?  The middle class has been destroyed in the US and all that Obama has done is slow the trajectory of the spiraling down the drain to keep order and prevent the People from rising up and taking what's been stolen back.

Obama and Geithner and Summers and Bernanke and the entire economic cabal that has "kept the country from going off the cliff" has We The People consuming the toxic assets.

I know you don't comprehend the meaning of it, but at least recognize your limitations and stop aiding and abetting what has been the greatest heist in the history of the world and the politicians who are leaving you and me to hold the bag.
