Dear Norman Lear,

Hearing from you once every 4+ years doesn't cut it.

Either you're going to get out in front of your organization and beat the drum in public daily/weekly/monthly until there actually is CHANGE (hate radio is off the air, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 is overturned, the Fairness Doctrine is returned), or rally your friends and put your money behind a media network (like Air America was supposed to be) to compete head to head with the Rush Limbaughs/Hannitys/et al.

But your surfacing in public every 4 plus years to write half a page of reheated hits on Limbaugh is an exercise in futility (and in vanity), as well as an insult to the American People & Way that you claim to want to save. We are too far gone; you should be sounding a claxon and getting the People to lifeboats.

Do you remember Obama's campaign promise to impose 'Windfall Profits Taxes on the Oil & Gas Industry"?

No sooner had the 2008 election been over than Obama immediately reneged on it, saying, "The prices have now dropped - We'll see about doing that if or when they rise again."

Oil hit over $80/barrel (the amount that, had Obama kept his promise, the windfall profits tax would have been triggered) within months of Obama getting into the Oval Office.

We've been talking lately about Frank Luntz and his manipulation of language for political purposes. If you want to see change in the US, change the language you use to describe the relationships between people around you. Inclusion rather than exclusion.

It's easy for those who have no stake in it, i.e., they don't know anyone who is facing prison time for drugs, to shrug it off. But when enough of the 'establishment elites' have been touched, that's when the laws will change.
