John Boehner Defends Crying & Smoking

=====================================

And drinking?

Boehner's got a serious drinking problem.  It's what's underlying the crying at the drop of a hat.

'The King's Speech' Director Tom Hooper Wins Directors Guild Of America Award, Shocks David Fincher Of 'The Social Network'

WTF are you talking about, "treasonous"???

Talking with youngsters here is difficult because they seem to be ig-no-rant of how history unfolded and chronology.

In hindsight, yes, it wasn't the best idea for them, private citizens, to visit Germany's manufacturing plants and admire Germans' 'efficiency', and yet it was one year before Chamberlain and Hit/er signed the Munich Agreement and Kristallnacht, and two years before Germany invaded Poland (forcing Britain and France to declare war on Germany).

Egypt Death Toll Passes 100 As Protests Continue

Ben Wedeman at CNN, among other newscasters on the streets in Cairo, is reporting that the "bad guys" according to your definition are the Egyptian police.  That is coming to him through his contacts in the Egyptian army, Egyptians on the streets who he knows and who he is patrolling the streets with, who have caught these looters seen their ID and they are indeed the police.

Ummm, both brothers were supporters of Chamberlain's appeasement policy, and the royal family's anti-sem/t/c views (Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, the Duke of Edinburgh, etc.) have long been common knowledge.

We can like the movie, cheer it on for the theatrical achievement it is, without rewriting history.

That got posted before I finished the comment.

Making George VI more attractive a human being (by ignoring his less attractive qualities, by omitting his anti-sem/it/c sentiments, by casting Firth instead of Bob Hoskins, etc.) to tell the story of a man handicapped in performing the job he was bred for (ironically), a job where everyone's fate (not just his nation's, but the entire world's) was at stake, is what a theatrical production is all about.

I have no problem with it.

Very little of what we believe to be true in history is true (as it's the victors who write the history books); if what people come away with from this movie is that the date of the beginning of the relationship between Logue and the king is off, they'll have missed the message of the movie.

Obama Tries New Can-Do Slogan, Details TBD

Instead of these slogans, how about some honest direct discussions?

When enough of us recognized 1960s advertising slogans showing up in Obama's speeches (like, "We do good things" in the SOTU speech and "GE: We bring good things to light"), Obama's speechwriters and handlers turned to Broadway-Hollywood musicals for their 'lyrics' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6djgavbp7c

The relationship between the king and the speech therapist began about a decade earlier than depicted in the movie is, IMHO, the most relevant one.  It relates to the king's motivation for wanting/needing to overcome his stammer.  The movie also has the king (and his wife) more attractive (politically) than history has judged them (in real life, they Nod-see-appeasers, if not outright anti-sem/tes).  George was not considered as the brightest crayon in the box, if you know what I mean, but just the casting of Colin Firth added a good 50 points to his IQ.

But people need to remember that it's not a documentary; it's a theatrical production.

Egypt Death Toll Passes 100 As Protests Continue

The US's and Mubarek's strategy is to slow everything down.  When you can do that, slow it down, you stand a better chance of putting an end to any change.  You can then isolate the leaders, rendition them, lock down neighborhoods, institute martial law, etc.

The Egyptian people, if they want to succeed in getting rid of Mubarek and get a government of their choosing (and not the west's), need to stand their ground and move forward, not be deterred.

And We, the American people, need to watch and learn.  Because that's the only way to get Obama and Democrats to deliver on the CHANGE they promised in 2006 and 2008.  If it can be done at all.

What's going on in Egypt is a secular uprising, fueled by a government that has abused its people and has a tin ear to the problems of the working man.

Unemployment, rising food and housing prices, is what's causing the Egyptians to say, "Enough!"

The Egyptian people are saying that the government allowed the prison break and is behind the looting (the Egyptian people don't have guns as we have here in the US), to show the Egyptian people how important it is to keeping order.

Think it wouldn't happen here?  Think our government wouldn't do the same thing?  Think our government doesn't approve of the Egyptian government opening up the prisons?  Remember Iraq?  Remember US soldiers being told to stand down after the attack and invasion of Iraq?  Remember Rumsfeld's comments [click here]?

Remember the destruction of Iraq's seed bank?  Remember how Iraq can only plant Monsanto GMO seed now?  How it's against the law for Iraq's farmers to grow any other seed but Monsanto's GMO seed?
