Japan Tsunami Anniversary: 2 Years After Disaster, Cleanup Effort Still Slow

Monday, March 11, 2013

Obviously you're worried about your having to pay high electrical bills and not your or others' health.

All that your not being "very scared about it" tells me is that the power of denial is greater than your sense of self-preservation.

As far as "why don't you complain about the massive holes people are cracking in the bed of Pennsylvania and North Dakota", I do.  I'm active in clean and sustainable and renewable energy sources' movements.  I put my money where my mouth is, too. So don't presume that because I'm not discussing other dirty energies in this article that's about nuclear plants that I'm for them.

Japan Tsunami Anniversary: 2 Years After Disaster, Cleanup Effort Still Slow

Children outside Fukushima in the cities tested have been constantly exposed to radiation for two years. The initial plume of radiation didn't just stay in the air over Fukushima - it traveled and it fell to the ground in other areas. Furthermore, contaminated food continues to be consumed all over Japan, tested only for two kinds of radioactive particles. Radioactive debris is being shipped all over Japan and incinerated, further contaminating the air in areas that should be kept clean for children of Fukushima to be evacuated to.

The only way this figure of 40% can be classified as "normal" is if you were to compare it with rates in children from OUTSIDE Japan, preferably in non-nuclear countries like Australia.

You have to put your head really far up your *ss to be blind to the fact that the "evidence" BushCheney proffered as their basis for taking the US to war was forged and/or manufactured.  Whether it was theNiger documents or the DowningStreet memo or the CIA's faking photographs of UAVs, there was/is plenty of evidence that *SOMEBODY* wanted the US to bomb Iraq into oblivion, and given how it was the BushCheney administration driving the stories, pressing Congress for authorization, representing the "evidence" as legitimate, if you don't believe that BushCheney lied then why aren't you calling for an investigation as to who else might have been behind all of it?

it was a collection of information that even had Pelosi calling for us to attack Iraq before Bush ever took office.

=======================

Pelosi wasn't calling for a US attack.  In 1998, in order to get the weapons' inspection back on track, she said, "SaddamHussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass technology which is a threat to countries in the region."

And then inspections resumed.

In 2002, Pelosi opposed the Iraq AUMF,while stating that Iraq, like "other countries of concern", had WMDs. In explaining her opposition to the resolution, Pelosi noted that  GeorgeTenet had told Congress that the likelihood of SaddamHussein launching an attack on the US using WMD was low. "This is about the Constitution", Pelosi said. "It's about this Congress asserting its right to declare war when we're fully aware what the challenges are to us. It's about respecting the UN and a multilateral approach, which is safer for our troops."

You guys all love to talk about how stupid Bush was, well how did that stupid man insert false intel into circulation before he ever got elected? How did that completely stupid man fool every Democrat to include Nancy Pelosi who had her own access to classified information long before Bush ever took office?

You can't find anything Bush said that was not already said by a Democrat before Bush took office.

===================================

Not true.  In addition to what Paul Kanjorski and other members of Congress testify to are the Niger uranium forgeries (that's what was so significant about Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame).

The Niger uranium forgeries are forged documents initially revealed by SISMI (Italian military intelligence). These documents seem to depict an attempt made by Saddam Hussein to purchase yellowcake uranium from Niger during the Iraq disarmament crisis.  On the basis of these documents and other indicators, the governments of the US and the UK asserted that Iraq violated UN sanctions.

And again, that nasty word ('conspiracy') comes into play with the Downing Street memo.

There were a few efforts, not many but some, by people like Pelosi and others, to challenge the drumbeat to war, but one thing that we all saw was the *SHOCK&AWE* campaign by the BushCheney administration to override any and all opposition to their plans.

Go back and look at the voting records of anything you far lefties

==========================================

There's no "extreme" or "far left" in the DemocraticParty.  They left long ago, and can be found bombing animal testing labs and burning down suburban subdivision sites being built on land where ancient forest have been clear cut.  If they vote at all anymore, it's as Independents and rarely for Democrats.

I am an old FDR liberal Democrat.  If you think that's far left, then that's what you think about FDR.

From my life's experience, my travels around the nation, my work and interaction with Americans from all walks of life, when informed of the issues, most Americans agree with liberal policies. Neither they (nor I) would characterize themselves as far-anything or extreme, but mainstream. For example, nobody likes the idea of abortion, but most Americans do not want the government involved if they find themselves in the predicament of an unwanted pregnancy. And if you frame it as, "You like to kill babies?!?! ?!?!", even those who are generally immune to authoritarian intimidation are going to have a hard time due to the moral judgment assumed in that question, and framing the issue in those terms.

Real Democratic policies aren't that hard to sell to Americans.  When most Americans want Medicare and other government programs which they've benefitted from to continue and teabaggers shout "No government control of healthcare; Get your hands off my Medicare", the answer is EDUCATION.

Bush had no independent knowledge of anything in Iraq, he had the same intel Bill Clinton had and even Bill clearly stated there were WMD's in Iraq.

=================================

What I'm trying to explain to you is that they BOTH knew it was BS.

The difference, however, is that Bush took the nation to war - Clinton didn't.

That's a distinction between the two administrations' policies.

What BushCheney did was not only to cherry-pick intelligence to tell a story about Iraq that wasn't true, but to also invent intelligence of nuclear activities (aluminum tubes) and fabricate evidence of a delivery system.

And never was the word 'conspiracy' more accurate than when BushCheney went about putting the plan to go to war in place, by leaking stories to Judith Miller of Iraq's nuclear efforts that were totally false and then Cheney going on Meet The Press to point to Miller's articles in the NYT as the "proof".

What new weapons?

What Obama also did during the same Town Hall time period? He unleashed federal security forces to Pittsburgh to break up peaceful protests of the G20 meeting, using the new weaponry on dissenters who the 'establishment elites' really fear, and stem the unrest that actually threatens the 'elites', i.e., the American people taking back their government. -http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2009/sep/25/sonic-cannon-g20-pittsburgh

I think you've missed the point:  The Tea Party serves Obama and the DLC/Third Way/No Labels-controlled Democratic Party well.  It's a paper tiger, getting far more air time in the media than its numbers deserve.  You have to remember that Mitt Romney wasn't the Tea Party's choice as standard bearer for the Republican Party, yet he got the nomination.  The Tea Party makes up a sliver of the total number of Republicans.

If you think the Tea Party is any kind of a threat, then the time to have put them down was during the healthcare debate, when members of Congress were canceling Town Hall meetings.  Shutting down Town Hall meetings served Obama and the Medical Industrial Complex (Big Insurance, PhRma, Big Hospitals) keep their lock on high-priced medical treatment.  It prevented rational discussion of how expanding Medicare, public healthcare, where the best medical care at the lowest costs are achieved and is what Americans want.  When tea baggers say, "No government healthcare, and keep your hands off my Medicare", the solution is education.

There are times when the interests of the right and the left converge, and that was one of those times.

And when there's a meltdown, just where do you think the water to cool it down is going to come from?

There's a reason they're built on coastlines.

Nuclear power is a bad idea no matter where they're built.  It's not cheap, never has been and never will be.  It's not safe, never has been and never will be.

Fukushima had 3 nuclear meltdowns, something that has never happened before

80,000 people, mostly children under the age of eighteen, have been examined in the Fukushima prefecture.  Medical authorities have done ultrasounds of the children's thyroid glands and found that 40% have thyroid abnormalities which is incredibly rare in pediatrics.  Some of these children almost certainly are bound to develop cancer of the thyroid, and indeed, one 12-year-old boy has already been diagnosed with it, and a girl, aged about 16, may already have developed cancer - They're testing her now.

It took about 5 years for the children around Chernobyl to start developing cancer, but these children are showing symptoms and signs that they'll develop cancer in the future, indicating that they got a really high dose of radiation, higher than Chernobyl.

Jeb Bush Defends Immigration Flip-Flop, Stays Mum On 2016 Run

The blind follower here is you, it seems; I hold Democrats equally to blame and say it regularly here on HP and elsewhere.  Most of them were complicit and failed or refused to perform their Constitutionally-required roles soberly and with great care.  Looking back would show that, and more.  At the least, it might save us from another generation of Bush-Clinton administrations.

The single-most important decision that any member of Congress can make is whether to give a president the authority to use military force against another nation.  HillaryClinton claims that she did not discuss her vote to give Bush the AUMF with her husband.  She claims she based her vote on Bush's claim that Iraq had WMD.  We know from the NIE that it wasn't true, and that there were no legal grounds to attack Iraq.  Not only was it illegal, taking Saddam out was bad policy, a bad strategy that would destabilize the entire region, open up a Pandora's box and have us in a quagmire for years and decades.

Bush, no fool he (Bush and Cheney wanted Congress's heads on the line, too, should it all go bad), made that NIE available to all members of Congress.  It was in a locked on the Hill (a table, chair and lamp in the room), an armed guard standing outside.  You had to show your ID as a member of Congress and sign in to enter the room.  Bush wanted a record of it.

Senator Bob Graham, who didn't vote to give Bush the AUMF (Authorization To Use Military Force against Iraq) was one of a handful who availed himself of the opportunity, and went to the room (we can't find out precisely who did read it because the sign-in sheet is classified).

After Graham read it, he  told Hillary that she'd better get herself to the room and read it.  When the existence of the NIE originally became known (during Plamegate) and the little room on the Hill, certain members of Congress were asked if they'd read it before their vote to AUMF.  Hillary said she hadn't.  She said she knew enough about Iraq and didn't have to read the NIE.  She also said that she never discussed her vote or the situation with her husband.

It's important to realize that as a former president, Bill Clinton got the same PDB that George W. Bush got.   He knew Bush was lying us into a war in Iraq, he backed Bush up; still does to this day.   Is anybody seriously going to say that Hillary and her husband didn't know the truth, that Bush and Cheney were about to spend us into servitude, push us into third world nation status, all the while the Clintons were making HUNDREDS of millions from hedge funds?
