Democrats in both chambers of Congress work as a team. They identify what they hope to achieve (pro-corporate legislation) and then strategize how to get it while saving each other's hides with constituents come election time.

The week before & the week after the healthcare bill passed in the Senate was the one & only time a PublicOption had any chance of happening until another generation passes.
A group of senators had mobilized behind it since the bill had to be passed through reconciliation anyway, & there was no way that Democrats weren't going to get enough of its members to vote against it just because it had a PublicOption in it.
Obama nixxed it.
The excuse was that if the Senate did that, the bill would have to go back to the House for a vote & "There's no time!"
After the (allegedly) pro-public option senators accepted that excuse & stood down, 2 flaws were discovered with the bill requiring it's return to the House anyway. Insurance is NOT medical treatment.
Having insurance does NOT mean being able to get affordable quality medical care. Mandating that everybody has to purchase health insurance so that a few million people will have insurance isn't the same thing as everyone being able to get affordable, quality medical treatment.
It doesn't even mean that everyone with health insurance is going to be able to get the affordable medical treatment. It doesn't mean that if you pay your insurance premiums, your insurance company is required to pay for all of your healthcare needs.
But that's the 'Bush-speak' that Obama's been getting away with.

There are certain economic facts of life, and one of them is that in times like these, you have to spend money to make money. The only choices available to us are to really grease the wheels to put people to work on big infrastructure projects or not to. That's it. Just voting right on a bill isn't enough. Perhaps at one time, life in the Senate could be like that ('gentlemen' gathering together, debating, 'Marquess of Queensberry'-type rules, vote, majority decides, no hard feelings, move on to the next issue), but that's not what's been true of our political system for a long time.
Feingold had a longer run than his record deserved. His vote on the PatriotAct was in 2001. McCain-Feingold, his crowning legislative achievement, was in 2002 (& was overturned last year). His no vote on TARP was 2 years ago.

To my knowledge, Paul Kanjorski is the only witness who can directly place George W. Bush at the scene of the conspiracy to deceive Congress into backing the attack on Iraq with evidence falsified by the CIA.
It's through Kanjorski's account that we learn the Bush-Cheney Administration's scheme, which included the CIA's fabricating photographs for the explicit purpose of deceiving Congress into authorizating the use of military force in Iraq.

After you read that, read this, where Murtha shows up again in this report (this got no reporting in the MSM), where Kanjorski told his constituents in a townhall meeting that he voted to give Bush the authorization to go to war in Iraq based on a briefing he attended with other congressmen at the WhiteHouse (with Bush & CondiRice) in which the CIA presented "smoking gun photos" of Iraq having the ability to fly nuclear/biological weapons to the US mainland.

The outcome would've been the same had Nader been in the race or not.
Whatever the means necessary to get BushCheney into the WhiteHouse would've happened. If the means for getting BushCheney into office required a close election & Nader hadn't run, we would've learned about something else that brought the numbers down. (Butterfly ballots anyone?)
Do people forget all the different ways that that election was gamed by the GOP, & all of the ways that the Democratic establishment abandoned Gore?
The CIA was tampering with GOP absentee ballots in the weeks leading up to election day in Florida. JebBush & KatherineHarris spent two years purging legal voters from the polls. Close to 200,000 legal ballots weren't counted. And that's just Florida, & just the ways that we learned about because of legal proceedings in the post-election days.
The powers that be were not going to let Gore win, no matter what, & they gamed it in innumerable ways.
There was a coup d'etat in this country in 2000. Bloodless, but a coup nonetheless, & your believing it's because of RalphNader just proves what dvmb suckers the powers that be take you for.
