Barack Obama: I'm Talking To Gulf Experts 'So I Know Whose Ass To Kick' (VIDEO)

Monday, June 7, 2010

Try staying on topic, my original comment was that Bates said [ "Salazar opened up the gulf for drilling." ] And I said there was an article showing BP started the process before Salazar was appointed.

You said [ "No, that's not what Bates said or is claiming. Do you have a hearing problem?" ]

And yet, in your hard to decipher, transcription due to lack of quotes it clearly shows HE DID SAY it.

==================================

When Salazar was a SENATOR.

As Secretary of the Interior under Obama, "Salazar put more acres up for lease than any year ever. All time high. Salazar has always been for drilling and he helped open up the Gulf for drilling, including the lease bloc that BP drilled, WHEN HE WAS A SENATOR so he's always been for this and he went full speed ahead as soon as they got in office and then they pushed for more offshore drilling".

What's in quotes is verbatim what Bates said.

Obama needs to take this FUBAR over and do it NOW, close down all offshore wells (none of them have relief wells) and move this country on a fast track to green, sustainable energy -

Barack Obama: I'm Talking To Gulf Experts 'So I Know Whose Ass To Kick'

There's no way to do that. There's no way to force politicians to do that. The system has irrevocably broken down. There are inherent flaws within the Constitution that modern politicians have exploited. Left unconfronted, each administration has gotten more audacious until we have a Democratic administration eviscerating Constitiutional protections (like preventive detention, and execution of American citizens without due process or judicial oversight) that we all would have marched on the Capitol over just 2 years ago.

Watch the Frontline program that I cited and you'll see that the way our government works, you have to want to put the country (and regulations, oversight, all of the mechanisms for checks and balances) first, over your own self-interest.

Seems to be a flaw in his Eric Bates reporting. He says Ken Salazar helped to open up the Gulf for Drilling.

Deregulation wasn't the problem.

The government AND BP were at fault.

The government failed to oversee, failed to enforce regulations and that's why there is no way to drill safely.

We now have two parties that are so in bed with Big Business that neither can be trusted to protect the People's interests.

Obama's approach, in everything from healthcare to Wall St. has been to leave it to regulators. If you want to understand why the crooked leaders of this nation want that, watch this -

"I'm Talking To Gulf Experts So I Know Whose A$$ To Kick"

=======================================

His own, it seems.

On Morning Joe, Rolling Stone's executive editor Eric Bates reports that before the explosion on Deepwater Horizon, Obama knew well in advance that it had a major problem with the regulatory structure and did nothing to reform as he'd promised to. Ken Salazar put up more acres up for lease in the Gulf than anyone else in history.

Then after the explosion, Obama knew the spill could be very big from the first few hours, but dropped the ball.

Louisiana Oil Spill 2010 PHOTOS: Gulf Of Mexico Leak Reaches Land

Jindal said a state-contracted dredging company already has a dredging permit because it was working on a coastal restoration project in the area.

The governor said he instructed the company to begin building a sand berm at East Grand Terre Island which is east of Grand Isle.

Once the sand berm is built, Jindal said, it will demonstrate that the artificial barriers will keep the oil out.

“This will put pressure on the corps to get out of the way and approve our permit,” he said.

The governor did say he still needs the corps to approve the emergency permit so that BP will have to pay for the project.

Once the corps approves the permit, Jindal said he wants the U.S. Coast Guard, which is in charge of the federal response to the oil leak, to instruct BP to mobilize the dredges and start building the sand barriers.

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the national incident commander for the BP oil leak, said late Friday that the Coast Guard is in talks with the state and the corps in an attempt to “clarify their positions” on the dredging plan.

Louisiana Oil Spill 2010 PHOTOS: Gulf Of Mexico Leak Reaches Land

The state began a dredging project Friday to keep oil from a massive Gulf of Mexico leak out of the state’s wetlands — even though the federal government has not approved the project.

“We can’t afford to wait any longer,” Jindal said of waiting for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to approve an emergency permit for the project. “We know the oil is coming in.”

Jindal has been pleading for days with the corps to approve the state’s emergency permit application that would allow a fleet of dredges to build up the state’s barrier islands.

Jindal said the sand booms or sand berms would keep the leaking oil from slipping past the barrier islands and into the state’s fragile wetlands and marshes.

But the corps, which has said it will not answer questions about the application, issued a statement late Friday saying it had requested and received additional information from the state on the project.

“We are currently evaluating that information and will proceed as quickly as possible,” the statement says.

Thad Allen Advocates Pre-Emptive Relief Well Drilling To Mitigate Future Disasters

Point 1: Requiring preemptive relief wells wouldn't have made any difference.

The Deepwater Horizon catastrophe would have happened even with a relief well requirement.

Deepwater Horizon was a blowout of a NEW WELL; it hadn't begun producing. Had a preemptive relief well been required, they wouldn't have drilled a relief well until after this new well had been drilled.

Point 2: Relief wells are not a guaranteed solution. They blowout, too. Or any number of problems. Last year's Montara well blowout in Australia required 5 relief wells to be drilled before they were able to stop the gushing.

The only way to prevent future disasters is to stop offshore drilling.

Currently there are thousands of oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico, and none of them have relief wells.

Obama Not Above Political Manipulation After All

ObamaCare is about forcing Americans to purchase 'junk insurance'. It does nothing to reign in the skyrocketing costs of healthcare. It's not healthcare for all. None of the loopholes discovered (surprise!) a day after its passage have been closed (it doesn't cover all children, it doesn't keep all under 26-year-olds on their parents' insurance, etc.).

With the deal that Obama made with phRma, hospitals & the AMA & Big Insurance, there can be no PublicOption as long as Obama's in the WhiteHouse. The only "start" about it is that it's the beginning of the end of all public healthcare programs (Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, CHAMPUS, veterans' care, etc.).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgKLMhk2m1Y

Obama's expanded the wars beyond Afghanistan & Iraq, into Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, & increased military spending. The American taxpayer is going to be footing the bill for much of the clean-up of the BP oil blowout, as well as other unforeseen & unknowable disasters coming our way. We're going into a double-dip recession (it's a DEPRESSION). We can't get this president to do for the People what he's doing for the Corporations, & you think ObamaCare is "a start" towards public healthcare, aka affordable quality medical treatment for all?

Obama's got a 'Deficit Commission' going that'll deliver that bad news on behalf of Plutocrat Obama. Because Obama, corporate t00I that he is, will sooner cut SocialSecurity & all social programs, than take a dime away from the Corporate Welfare going to his Corporate Masters.

Obama Not Above Political Manipulation After All

That's because "where you stand" is in Obama's pocket.

And your memory is short (and what's with this "Republican 'Christian Right'" distinction?).

In 2003, Republicans paid homage to Big Insurance & PhRma (and had Democrats joining them) with the Medicare Reform Act. That was an $800 billion giveaway.

Normal people would have thought, "Well, that'll set them up for a generation, they've gotten their pay-offs along with the defense contractors and energy firms".

But we're not in normal times.

Obama and Democrats had to pay off Big Insurance & PhRma on their own after the 2008 election, and went Republicans even bigger. Obama was the biggest recipient of insurance/hospital/PhRma money of all of the candidates. Hillary was the second biggest recipient.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Impact: Get Involved

And if that doesn't do it for you, the Senate can change the rules.

And if that doesn't do it for you, Democrats can craft any legislation any way they want to go through reconciliation, just as Republicans did when they were the majority party.

But if you think that isn't enough, that it doesn't matter because Republicans can still filibuster anything and everything, there's Rule 22 of the Senate.

When we talk about Republicans filibustering, they really haven't been: They've been threatening to filibuster. Rule 22 leaves it up to the discretion of the Senate Majority Leader (Harry Reid) whether to actually force them to do it or just let them threaten (bluff).

Harry Reid has just let Republicans threaten, bluff. He's called them on it once in the last 3 1/2 years, when Republican Jim Bunning threatened to filibuster a bill to temporarily extend unemployment benefits, and Republicans caved. Filibustering is hard work.

Obama and Democrats are constrained by nothing.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Impact: Get Involved

When Obama got into office, he had a filibuster-proof Senate. He also knew he didn't have the luxury of that filibuster-proof Senate for long - Two Democratic senators were on death's door (Kennedy & Byrd). In spite of that fact, he slammed the brakes on healthcare reform, slowed everything down to a crawl, declared it was "Congress's job to come up with a healthcare reform bill", he wasn't going to get involved, except that any bill he signed must have a public option. Then Obama went to work undermining the committees writing the legislation in Congress, & l!ed about it when caught red-handed. Obama made deals with PhRma, hospitals, the AMA, and the insurance industry, undercutting the committees working on controlling medical costs.

Now that Ted Kennedy has d!ed, even without a filibuster-proof Senate, Democrats control the Senate by a greater margin than either party has had in decades. Still Obama doesn't (and didn't) pressure the Blue Dogs, or threaten Lieberman with loss of his committee chairmanship.
