George W. Bush In Chicago: Praises Mayor Daley's Leadership

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Why is George W. Bush being allowed to crawl back into polite society to rehabilitate his image and the Bush family name, an spread revisionist history about 9/11?

Why isn't he having to spend 24/7 with his lawyers, working on a way to stay out of prison?

Oh, that's right, I forgot: Because Obama and the DLC-Democrats have blocked all investigations and prosecutions into Bush-Cheney and Republicans, and have allowed them to resurrect themselves and take back control over government.

And because of Obama's failure to restore the Constitution and return us to the rule of law, by holding Bush, Cheney, et al, accountable, JEB Bush was all over the news on election night as the man behind Florida's new Tea Party Senator, Marco Rubio. So expect a Jeb Bush run at the presidency in the not-to-di tant-future. Perhaps with Liz Cheney on the ticket with him.

This is Obama's fault -- The buck stops squarely at his feet.

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastation that Bush-Cheney had caused the nation. And Obama issued Bush-Cheney and Republicans (essentially) a pardon.  None of them express any remorse or contrition.  As a matter of fact, they're rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-and-dicing Social Security, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that would help the People.

And even now, Obama wants to continue to make nice with them, cave some more, water down Democratic values & legislation.

Obama's not any kind of real Democrat; he's a DINO.

And if you didn't like the Republican Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 10), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".

And yesterday's release of the chairman of the Deficit Commission's recommendations was the opening salvo for a plan that will get adopted -- Cutting Social Security benefits, raising the age, and privatizing the Social Security trust fund, whole or in part (Democrats have already signaled they're amenable to it).  Obama's already announced that if 14 of the 18 can agree on a plan, he's on board, and there are already more than 14 on the commission that support privatization.

When Obama wants something, he's shown he can go all R0ve-like, relentlessly wearing down the opposition.  The problem is that he and the DLC-controlled Democratic Party don't want what the Democratic voters put them into power to get.

Alaska Senate Race: Lisa Murkowski Slams Delay Of Game Tactics In Write-In Ballot Count Saga

#2 - I don't think I used the word 'civil', but in fact, there was a period of time during the hand-counting where not only was there civility between Democratic and Republican volunteers who were hand-counting ballots, there was a sense of agreement, cooperation and bon amie.  Where they felt as if they were on the same side (Americans first), and working together for the good of the country, no matter what the result.

You wouldn't have seen that on CNN or Fox, or any other mainstream media outlet.  You certainly wouldn't have seen it on any program where Mary Matalin appeared.  She's a partisan operative and it's her job to sow division and conflict.

I don't think people realize how much of what they believe or think is true is actually the result of the editorial direction and production values on news programs.  Just think back to the days leading up to the war in Iraq, and the original music themes that the cable channels commissioned.  The driving beat, purely to instill anxiety.  The same was true for the post-election days of Florida.

In chaos, you can't think.  You certainly can't get accurate vote counts.  And that's what Republicans wanted people to believe.  That there couldn't be accuracy in recounting the ballots because of the chaos -- Chaos that they were creating.

Here's a transcript of Larry King Live from 11/23/2000, and they're going nvtz over how long it's taking to find out the winner of this election.  They're furthering the Republican meme, planting it in viewers minds that they should be impatient!:

http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0011/23/lkl.00.html

What I'm telling you is that where CNN's cameras weren't, where Fox's cameras weren't, also what "weren't" were Republican operatives creating chaos.  And where they weren't (hand-counting in Broward counting, for example) would have made you proud to be an American, and patient for the CORRECT and ACCURATE outcome.

C-Span did some great and straight coverage of it - No music, no editorial commenting, just cameras rolling, volunteers and observers talking about their experience, with heads nodding in agreement.  To paraphrase Michelle Obama, in my entire very long, civic-active adult life, the hand-counting in Broward county on the days around and including Thanksgiving day 2000 were the proudest I've ever been of America,  And I think that everyone there, D's, R's and I's, felt the same way.

Here's Rachel Maddow talking about what I'm talking about, about the Republican strategy for creating chaos for the cameras for the purpose influencing public perception, undermining trust in the process:

I was trying to be too clever with an allusion to hand-to-hand combat between two Republicans (Murkowski vs. Miller), and how Republicans bring to this Democracy efforts to eliminate voters' voices (votes).  Like, if you can't spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I precisely, then Joe Miller doesn't want those write-in ballots counted.

I can't imagine any Democrat doing that.  And, anticipating the Bushies' false equivalency example of the Gore campaign's objection to overseas military ballots with no time stamps and that arrived after election day isn't the same thing.

Bush's Waterboarding Admission Prompts Calls For Criminal Probe

On April 29, 2009, Obama's first 100 days press conference -

PRES. BARACK OBAMA, UNITED STATES:  The British, during World War II, when London was being bombed to smithereens had 200 or so detainees.  And Churchill said, “We don‘t torture.”  Churchill understood: you start taking short-cuts, and over time, that corrodes what‘s—what‘s best in the people.  It corrodes the character of a country.

The People are learning that they're the only ones being required to abide by the rule of law.

That shouldn't sit well with anyone who thinks of himself as a Constitution-loving, upholder of the rule of law, equal-justice-under-the-law-patriot, like you.  Or are you just playing one on the internet?.

Van Jones Urges Progressives To Fight For EPA, Stand Up To Banks And Big Oil (VIDEO)

If Van Jones wanted what we all thought we were getting when we put Obama and Democrats into power, he would be joining those who are only doing what Obama told us we were going to have to do.

During the 2008 campaign, Obama told people that they had to stay involved after the election, that they couldn't just vote for him, go away for four years and expect that he would do what they had hoped. He said that there were powerful interests working against what the people wanted, and if We The People wanted Obama to do our bidding, we would have to MAKE HIM DO IT.

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' forget that those of us who criticize Obama are only doing what he warned us needed to be done:  NOT to trust him.

Since the election (and even before, with his FISA vote), Obama's given us every reason to distrust and doubt him. He's been deceptive, breaking every campaign pledge and promise, conceding the positions of the left (getting nothing in return), and hobbling real Democrats at every turn while making Republicans and Blue Dogs stronger (and harder to beat in 2010 and 2012).

Obama's 'most ardent supporters' (like Van Jones, and other alleged 'progressives') are the most immediate problem, as they help Obama screw us all over.   Until they wake up, they are their own (and our) worst enem!es, and the reason we don't get what we all thought we were voting for when we voted Obama and Democrats into office as the majority power in our government.

Alaska Senate Race: Lisa Murkowski Slams Delay Of Game Tactics In Write-In Ballot Count Saga

There is a substantive difference between this ballot count and the 2000 count in Florida.

In Florida 2000, when the political operatives were left out of it, when teams with ordinary Democratic and Republican voters were tallying the votes from the ballots, it went smoothly, and the teams, mixed with both Democrats and Republicans, overwhelmingly agreed on whether it was a vote for Bush or a vote for Gore.

It was only when the Republican operatives, the lawyers and the dirty tricksters (Brooks brothers' rioters, Roger Stone and John Bolton's activities) got in on the act did it turn contentious, slow to a trickle, drag on, and go all ugly.

So here in Alaska, Republican (wo)mano a mano (Lisa Murkowski vs. Joe Miller), it's all plain for all to see, just about Republicans denying voters' their say.

Health Care Repeal Unpopular With The Public, Would Be Vetoed By Obama

Links, please.

The majority want it to go further -- Into a single payer/public healthcare plan.

We already would have had a public option had it not been for Obama.

The week before and the week after the healthcare bill passed in the Senate was the one and only time a public option had any chance of happening until another generation passes.

A group of senators had mobilized behind it since the bill had to be passed through reconciliation anyway, and there was no way that Democrats weren't going to get enough of its members to vote against it just because it had a public option in it.

Obama nixxed it.

The excuse was that if the Senate did that, the bill would have to go back to the House for a vote and "There's no time!"

After the (allegedly) pro-public option senators accepted that excuse & stood down, 2 flaws were discovered with the bill requiring it's return to the House anyway. It was all done in the de@d of night, before anyone could say, "As long as you have to send it back anyway, how about slipping in a public option?"

Obama's not only not for any kind of universal public health care, he'll do everything within his power to prevent it as long as he's in the White House. Because that was the deal that he made.

Rep. Peter King: Bush 'Should Get A Medal' For Authorizing Waterboarding

If for no other reason than this story, Obama and Democrats must stop obstructing justice and begin investigations and prosecutions into the Bush administration.

If Peter King's position is left to stand, unchallenged and un-smacked down by the criminal justice system, t0rture becomes the law of this land.  And not just on foreign detainees (remember that it was detainees, uncharged and untried, who were t0rtured), but on US citizens, too.

The effects of the Bush administration's abuses have already trickled down into our own culture and criminal justice system.  We've got cops using tasers on citizens who aren't doing anything.  And who can forget Oscar Grant's k!lling?

Obama is asserting that the president can k!ll Americans without any due process or oversight.  He also is pushing for 'preventive detention', as unAmerican a policy as there ever was, worthy of the Singapore or Indonesian justice system, but not the US's justice system.

We're going in the wrong direction, and the only way back on course is to figure out actually happened to get us here.

This White House is over.

It's up to Democratic voters to find another standard bearer.

It's not going to be any professional Democratic politician.  The Democratic Party, controlled by the DLC, is a closed system.  Every Democratic politician in office is a pawn of that system, and will not risk his or her career by being (excuse the expression) "a maverick".

If a Democrat left the Democratic Party, became an Independent, perhaps.

Dylan Ratigan, Glenn Greenwald, and Cenk Uygur talked the day after the elections last week about the Obama presidency, progressives and the Democratic Party.

I think what they said is a fair place to start the discussion:

Bush's Waterboarding Admission Prompts Calls For Criminal Probe

By refusing to investigate and prosecute George W. Bush, President Obama has put the country's welfare first. We simply cannot have a situation where each incoming administration turns around and investigates and prosecutes the previous one. That is the way to becoming an unstable, banana republic.
===================================================

I think you have that last part backwards, but let's see if I understand you correctly:

By Republicans intentionally abusing the independent counsel statute which had stuck in their craw ever since Nixon and Watergate, your solution is to not prosecute the crimes of a presidential administration.

By that logic, Butch and Sundance should have gone into law enforcement and zealousy gone after E.H. Harriman before embarking on their crime spree.

You have just given your seal of approval to the Cheney wet-dream of a 'Unitary Executive', of lawless administrations beholden to no one and nobody (least of all the American people), and the de@th of this democracy.

The president is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.  This isn't a matter of a choice for Obama to make, to "look forward, not back"; he is obligated to investigate and prosecute.

Has it occurred to you that had Bill Clinton not done what Obama's doing (investigated/ prosecuted Iran-Contra), that the last eight years of Bush-Cheney probably never would have happened?

Defending his decision to attack and occupy Iraq, Bush makes the claim again that "everybody thought Saddam Hussein had WMD" and lists the nations (France, Germany, Japan, Israel, Russia, Egypt, Great Britain, etc.).

Not that it would be relevant (because US policy and law prohibits 'preemptive war'), but here's the truth:

FACT:  Every nation that thought Saddam Hussein had WMD believed it because the US told them so.  And US intelligence told them so, not just based on faulty intelligence, but on evidence fabricated by the CIA.

None of the interviewers, not Matt Lauer, not Oprah, have challenged Bush on that.

If you want to make a difference, flood NBC and HARPO offices, with the facts of their failures.

Stop patronizing mainstream media, and that includes Fox (Fox has a sizable liberal audience), and go to alternative sources like Amy Goodman, Laura Flanders, Matt Taibbi, Ezra Klein, Jeremy Scahill, Thom Hartmann, Glen Greenwald, Jane Hamsher, etc.  Elevate those journalists with your support and you will make them (and your perspectives) 'mainstream'.

British officials said today there was no evidence to support claims by George Bush, the former US president, that information extracted by "waterboarding" saved British lives by foiling attacks on Heathrow airport and Canary Wharf. In his memoirs, Bush said the practice – condemned by Downing Street as torture – was used in CIA interrogations of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

He said Mohammed, below, was one of three al-Qaida suspects subjected to waterboarding. "Their interrogations helped break up plots to attack American diplomatic facilities abroad, Heathrow airport, and Canary Wharf in London, and multiple targets in the United States," he wrote.

By refusing to investigate and prosecute Bush, by "looking forward, not back", Obama has broken the covenant that the American people have with their government.

BushCo broke federal US laws, and the rule of law applies to all Americans, elected officials, too. Elected officials especially.

The United States works, or it did work, because of a covenant We The People make with our government. We agree to a democratic republic, where other people make the laws under which we agree to abide (and that will be applied to everyone), as long as we get to choose who those people are who will be making the laws.

It is under those conditions that we consent to be governed.

When we no longer trust in the process, when we no longer trust that the selection process by which our elected representatives is fair and accurate, or that the laws don't apply equally to all, then all bets are off.

And no government can stand once that happens.

Deficit Commission's Extreme Proposals Spell Disaster

Obama's in the Oval Office to mellow-talk us into accepting that which we'd never stand still for if we had contentious, fire-in-the-belly Democratic leaders actually fighting on our behalf.

Obama's in the White House to talk our rational minds into accepting the greatest heist in the history of the world being perpetrated on us, and never even think about trying to get back the money that was ripped off from the middle and poor classes, and to ease our transition into becoming a third world nation.

Obama, like a grifter, is leading off the 2nd half of the con game:  To squeeze the rest of the dimes from the poor & middle classes. It began with his healthcare legislation, which is really Part 2 of Bush's Medicare Reform Act of 2003 (high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls).  Obama's biggest hurdle was eliminating single payer universal health care from consideration and barring its proponents (and all proponents of a public option) barred from the negotiations.  Once he was able to do that, it was really smooth-sailing for the institutionalization of the insurance industry as the gatekeeper to medical care (high-priced medical care, with no cost controls) for Americans.

The heist continues with Obama's Deficit Commission that's going to cut Social Security & Medicare, privatize the Social Security trust fund, then follow up with more *AFTA treaties which will outsource of the rest of Americans' jobs.

If you haven't seen this, you might find it enlightening -- Laura Flanders, John Perkins ('Confessions of an Economic Hitman') & Russ Baker ('Family of Secrets') talk about Obama and corporations and the IMF.

And then read this: The IMF Tells US to Rein in its Deficits.

Democrats are in the same business as Republicans: To serve the Corporate Masters.

I suggest that you consider Democrats and Republicans as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republicans) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, and when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric.

Once in power, Democrats consolidate Republicans' gains from previous years, and continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertising campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what We, the People thought they were.

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigans and all the different ways they've been tricked, and start seeing Democrats as no different than Republicans, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business.

Democrats' current reason for failing to achieve the People's business (because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc.) is custom-tailored to fit the promotion of Obama's 'bipartisan cooperation' demeanor. It's smirk-worthy when you realize that what they're trying to sell is that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do...And their ineptitude, that's "a good thing".

GOP Rep. Dana Rohrabacher: Bush 'Destroyed GOP'

If Republicans are for eliminating the deficit, if Rohrbacher so disapproved of the TARP, then why does Rohrbacher support making the Bush tax cuts permanent?

Making the Bush tax cuts permanent is actually a tax increase.

We would have to borrow another $700 BILLION in order to give the rich a tax cut.

We will be adding $700 billion more to our debt -- So much for how concerned Republicans and teabaggers are with the deficit.

Here's Austan Goolsbee, Obama's own chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, talking against it.

For what it's worth, TARP is actually shaping up to be more successful than its reputation as a failed bailout would suggest.

Rep. Peter King: Bush 'Should Get A Medal' For Authorizing Waterboarding

Why is George W. Bush being allowed to crawl back into polite society to rehabilitate his image and the Bush family name?

David Axelrod Had To Get Fiscal Commission Report Off Internet

Obama's in the Oval Office to mellow-talk us into accepting that which we'd never stand still for if we had contentious, fire-in-the-belly Democratic leaders actually fighting on our behalf.

Obama's in the White House to talk our rational minds into accepting the greatest heist in the history of the world being perpetrated on us, and never even think about trying to get back the money that was ripped off from the middle and poor classes, and to ease our transition into a third world nation.

The heist continues with his Debt Commission that's going to cut Social Security & Medicare, privatize the Social Security trust fund, then follow up with more *AFTA treaties which will outsource of the rest of Americans' jobs.

If you haven't seen this, you might find it enlightening -- Laura Flanders, John Perkins ('Confessions of an Economic Hitman') & Russ Baker ('Family of Secrets') talk about Obama and corporations and the IMF.

Health Care Repeal Unpopular With The Public, Would Be Vetoed By Obama

We didn't get healthcare reform; what Obama did was get a corporate welfare program disguised as healthcare reform past the People and into the law of the land.

I think Lawrence O'Donnell & Company explain it very well, but I can get others if these aren't to your liking:

Did Obama, who ran a pitch-perfect campaign to victory in 2008, use his oratorical skill to shape the healthcare debate?

Did he use his unique ability to communicate, an ability that got more voters than ever before in the history of the nation to vote for him (a black man, in good old rac!st America, because they believed he could end corporations' grip on government & return the government to the People), to intervene & interrupt these kinds of disruptive tactics, and bring reason and order and humanity to the decision-making process?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwiKGjM5tHU

He didn't because what teabaggers were doing at Town Halls was what he & the DLC-controlled Democratic Party wanted to have happen. To get the pro-insurance & pharmaceutical industries kind of healthcare legislation that was passed, and not the real healthcare reform that he & Democrats were put into power to achieve.

Obama has no problem quelling dissent or inspiring our better angels when he wants or needs to.  And the only people Obama has ever battled are progressive and liberal Democrats.

Health Care Repeal Unpopular With The Public, Would Be Vetoed By Obama

This old, liberal Democrat would have absolutely no problem with Republicans repealing this massive piece of corporate welfare that doesn't begin until 2014.

I'm not alone.  This is not the healthcare reform that Americans wanted when they put Obama and Democrats into power in 2008.

Poll Shows 76% Support For Choice Of Public Plan

GOP calls for repeal of health law, but many in poll wish overhaul went further.

What Obama did was preserve the crooked system of the insurance industry as the gatekeeper to medical care.  That is the problem that is keeping medical treatment from being affordable, and universal for all citizens.

Let the Republicans do the heavy lifting -- They're motivated now; let them fight the institutions (insurance, PhRma, AMA, Hospitals).

If this isn't repealed first, there will be no money for a single payer system.  It'll all have gone into the pockets of Big Insurance & PhRma.

Repeal it, and then Democrats can run in 2012 on single payer universal health care or expanding Medicare to cover everyone.  With a new standard bearer, a real Democrat and not another DLCer, not another DINO (NO on OBAMA), at the top of the Democratic ticket.

White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

I certainly don't think it's fair that, at my age, I'm going to have to experience years - if not decades - of slower growth to essentially pay for the sins of the Baby Boomers.
==================================================

"Fairness" has nothing to do with this, for a few reasons, the least of which is that Baby Boomers aren't responsible for this.  To believe that they are is to have swallowed the bait so that the real perpetrators can get away with the greatest heist in the history of the world.

The "let's pass it off to our children" line was a creation of the Frank Luntzes in our political system, one of many in a campaign to ram through methods for very rich and powerful to get their hands on the instruments of power and the resources of the United States to further rob the poor and middle class all over the world.

It was line in a campaign like Bush's campaign to attack Iraq:  If trying to scare the American people into a war in Iraq by saying that, "Saddam Hussein has WMD, is capable of landing a missile with WMD on the continental US" wasn't enough (and which also wasn't true) to get the Authorization to Use Military Force against Iraq, then other reasons are invented, en masse, and the public is b0mbarded with them so that all rational thought and discussion is impossible.  Anyreason is invented to get Americans pressuring Congress to do it.  Any reason will do, whether true or not, just as long as it gets Congress to do it.

Baby Boomers had no power in these decisions, and are as much victims (worse victims) in this as you seem to think your generation is.

This was a heist -- It's an ongoing heist, and you're buying into the distraction that Baby Boomers did it.

White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

You want to cut expenses?

End the wars.  NOW.

Cut the military.  Close US bases around the globe.

There are 761 US military bases across the world.

156 countries with US bases.  Officially, the Pentagon counts 865 base sites, but this number omits all our bases in Iraq (over 100) and Afghanistan (80 and counting), among many other well-known and secret bases.

63 countries with US military bases and troops.

7 countries with new military bases since 9/11.

End the pork in the Pentagon's budget.  One example of pork that incoming Speaker of the House John Boehner recently voted for:   Every time an F-35 jet is built, they build two engines.  They make an extra engine just in case you lose the first one.   The Pentagon has been begging forever, "Please, can we stop building two engines?", and the answer is always the same "No".  Because they're built in John Boehner's district.

White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

Revisionist history.

Clinton used all of his political capital when, after entering the White House in 1993, the first thing he did was try to address gays in the military and caved to the DADT legislation.

Obama sold the American people out with healthcare legislation that is NOT reform, but the entrenchment of the problem, of what is responsible for the impossibly high costs of medical treatment: The institutionalization of the insurance industry as the gatekeepers to Americans getting affordable quality medical treatment.

When Obama barred proponents of single payer universal health care and public healthcare options from the negotiations, THE FIX WAS IN.

Obama is a FRAUD.

White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

Hillary would be no better.  She ran to the RIGHT of Obama.  Hillary & Bill Clinton co-founded the DLC, the pro-corporate branch of the Democratic Party.  The DLC is the DINO-wing of the Democratic Party.

You must stop looking at these politicians' personalities and thinking you know their politics.  Every word out of their mouths was carefully and artfully crafted by public relations firms to make you think they're saying one thing when they mean something entirely else.

The Clintons benefitted greatly from the repeal of Glass-Steagall (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act), which Bill Clinton signed into law at the end of his administration, and what's behind the economic meltdown.  He made $100 million in the last ten years, and much more than that (unknown, secret, which is the nature of hedge funds) from his dealings with Yucaipa and Ron Burkle.

The solution for our political and financial woes can only come from OUTSIDE of both political parties.  They are both corrupt to the core.
