Obama Administration on the Verge of Giant Sell-Out to Conservatives

The Obama Administration's move to the right is about to give conservatives a victory they could not have anticipated, even under Bush: the privatization of public housing.

James Carville Takes On Obama On Oil Spill: He's 'Risking Everything' With 'Go Along With BP Strategy'

==5 Reasons Why You Won't See The Worst Of The Spill

The press has been repeatedly forbidden to enter impacted areas by the Coast Guard, BP, or the Fish & Wildlife Service. I was on the ground in the Gulf, and trying to get the story from one of the fishermen contracted to work with BP was like asking them if they’d like a root canal on the spot. Word is that cleanup workers are told if they talk to press, they’re fired. And then there are the toxic chemical dispersants, which plays the biggest role in masking the extent of the disaster’s damage by breaking the oil up and spreading it out — at who knows what cost.==

Frustration Mounts As Oil Seeps Into Gulf Wetlands

No reasonable argument can be made to you. That much is clear.

I think your ability to reason is being held hostage to a misguided sense of loyalty to politicians who aren't what you think they are.

Obama has not taken the steps that one would expect any pro-environmental president to take in this situation. He hasn't curtailed BP's other very risky operations in US waters, nor has he revoked the drilling permits issued after he had announced he was suspending the issuance of new permits. He also is behind the use of dispersants, even this most toxic one (Corexit), which is all about hiding the truth.

He has had the live feed since the day it happened, and has let BP l!e about the quantity of oil that is gushing, and letting BP keep independent scientists and observers away. It's not idle curiosity, but vital to making determinations as to protecting the coastlines and preparing for clean-up.

There's no excuse for what's happening, and in the absence of any reasonable explanation, this 'motive' is as good as any.

There are several issues involved, shutting down the gusher is one. Shutting down BP's other unsafe operations is another. Suspending the permitting of any more drilling operations is another. Releasing information about the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf is another. Monitoring, inspection, scientific teams, engaging boats & booms to protect the coastlines, etc., are others.

ALL are within the authority of the US government.

Has Obama shut down BP's other operations in US waters, particularly the most troublesome one, Atlantis?

No.

Has Obama revoked the drilling permits that were issued AFTER Obama announced he was suspending the issuance of all permits?

No.

The only reason to use dispersant is for covering up the real extent of this disaster. To sink the oil, try to keep it off the coasts because if the People actually see it, that will be the end of offshore drilling. The dispersant is toxic; even Great Britain has banned its use. When the outcry got loud enough a couple of days ago, Obama's EPA told BP to find another, less toxic dispersant. Obama, the EPA, didn't say "don't use any", but "find another less toxic dispersant". BP said, "Stuff it, we're sticking with Corexit (interesting ties to Goldman Sacks)".

Actually, by destroying the entire region ecologically, BP and all pro-drilling interested parties (politicians included) can and will argue that offshore drilling increase, "since it's all ruined anyway".

We've already seen Mary Landrieu make a pitch for more drilling the very day after this disaster began.

Has Obama shut down BP's other operations in US waters? Atlantis (potentially a worse nightmare than Deepwater Horizon) is still operating.

Has Obama revoked the drilling permits that were handed out AFTER Obama announced he was suspending new permits? No.

What will Obama do?

If Louisiana's industries are 1) oil, gas, chemicals, and 2) fishing and tourism, and fishing and tourism is destroyed, they're going to have to increase offshore drilling to make up the state's lost revenues.

Is it starting to make sense now?

Frustration Mounts As Oil Seeps Into Gulf Wetlands

I've read it. I suggest you read it thoroughly, and start using your mind and reasoning skills:

April 20 - [T]the administration has continuously anticipated and planned for a worst-case scenario.

How does that square with this on April 29 & May 1 & May 19:

http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20100429/NEWS03/100429419

Once the oil is in the water, the only way to keep it from the wetlands, the coast period, is to surround it with booms and burn it off. Burning oil, while not environmentally friendly, is certainly more ecologically healthy than using Corexit (the only reason for using a dispersant is to hide it, send it beneath the surface so that it can't be seen by the media and the People).

After enough protests, Obama's EPA finally told BP it had 24 hours to find another dispersant, less toxic (Obama wants to hide it, too, apparently) and 72 hours to start using it. BP then told the EPA to "take a hike, we're sticking with Corexit".

In case you didn't know, the White House has had the live feed from day one of this catastrophe and has let BP continue to l!e about the amount of oil spilling into the Gulf.

Those are just 3 on a long list of failures by this administration in this clusterfvck of a disaster.

Did you read the comment above that I wrote?

There are several 'legs' to this situation. Stopping the gusher is one of them. Mitigating the damage, cleaning it up are two others.

What Obama and BP are stalling about (and locked in what seems to be a death spiral that is going to take us all down) is the mitigation of the damage part because it affects liability on both of their parts.

Carville is right-on-the-money when he asks, "What the heII is Barbara Boxer and Congress doing asking BP to release the live feed? Congress has subpoena authority and can get this done in minutes!"

We're experiencing a complete failure of leadership in this country, with a government controlled by people who like having power and wealth but hide from doing any actual real work.

Wall Street CEOs Getting Increased Perks, Benefits Despite Public Outrage

The decimation of populist legislation (deregulation, privatization of Americans' shared resources, civil rights protections) has been ongoing for about 40 years now. Nothing that Obama and this Democratically-controlled Congress have done has changed that direction. Nothing.

Where's the line for you? When do you say, "That's it, they've gone too far, enough!"? Have you thought about that, identified your limit? Or are you taking it a day at a time, in which case you're that frog in the pan of water, being slowly boiled to de@th.

First of all, don't you dare put me or any liberal working to get Democratic politicians to live up to their promises in the same breath as Rand Paul. We on the left are actually the majority of the Democratic Party -- We're 70% of it, and to try to paint us as "extreme" (as the DLC does) is an off-the-wall attempt to distract people like you.

We on the left are mainstream America. These charges you throw around, that we on the left are purists who don't know how to compromise, are galling in light of the reality that we've been the ones compromising for 40 years. We've let both the Republicans demonize the word 'liberal' while our own Democratic elected representatives have run from the word, refusing to defend liberals' achievements & accomplishments. One actually defended the failure to defend liberalism as "modesty" ("Nobody takes Republicans' bashing seriously, everyone knows of liberals' achievements", "It would be like bragging" -- Tom Harkin, if you must know). We on the left have stood still while our own Democratic politicians helped Republicans knee-cap the very policies and legislation that created the largest middle class in history, that helped Americans achieve their American Dream.

James Carville Takes On Obama On Oil Spill: He's 'Risking Everything' With 'Go Along With BP Strategy'

Jeebus, you're a wh0re.

What Obama and BP are doing is stalling for time, giving little (no) regard for the effect of the oil in the waters or the coastal areas that it's going to land on. They already have fixed on the earliest date when they hope the leak will be capped -- August 14, 2010. Unless there is a brainstorm or a fluke (which would require machinery that navies have), that's the soonest. Until then, by not having the federal government respond, Obama hopes the fury will fall only on BP.

That's quite a price to pay, the loss of US coastlines, Americans' health/lives and livelihood, so he can stay above the fray, keep his numbers high. This is a complete failure of leadership.

It's a bogus question.

Obama and Democrats were put into power because of what they promised to do once in office. They've failed to deliver on those promises. And don't give me this cr@p about "healthcare reform" -- What they passed is not going to get affordable quality medical care for everyone. It's not "a step in the right direction", or any of the other panaceaic cliches. It will actually end all public healthcare programs in effect now (Medicare, Medicaid, CHAMPUS, SCHIP, etc.).

Entitling legislation as "healthcare reform" doesn't make it so -- I would have thought 0bamabots would have been able to recognize that after Bush's Clear Skies Initiative and No Child Left Behind. Obama & the DLC Democrats have their own Frank Luntzes (as a matter of fact, Luntz has worked for Democrats, too); they know how to turn a phrase, lawyer-speak, saying one thing when they mean another.

If you want all of that you claim to have wanted during the campaign, when Obama and Democrats were promising it to you, being loyal and unconditionally supportive of Obama and Democrats is NOT going to get it for you. You'd better bring his numbers down, and make it real personal, or else he's working to get Republican voters to vote for him -- He & the DLC are moving the party, by way of passing legislation that satisfies REPUBLICAN VOTERS, to the right.

It is an interesting article.

But what it presumes is that anger is going to cause change at the ballot box. What we seem to forget is that we've had at least two national elections that were rigged, the methods have been perfected with the two political parties rubber-stamping the results. We have a government (CIA) that has perfected "the stolen election".

With all of the media coverage of Joe Sestak's win over Arlen Specter, the fact is that Sestak is an Establishment candidate, supporting all of the same corporate cr@p that DLC-Democrats are for. How much of a populist rebel do you think a Navy vice-admiral is?

Corporate PACs Betting On Republicans To Regain Control Of Congress

Corporate PACs Betting On Republicans To Regain Control Of Congress

===========================================

That's NOT because Democrats have done anything to offend corporations -- It's just the Corporatocracy's way of keeping both parties on their toes. This 'back and forth' donation switching by corporations each election cycle helps to keep the political parties hungry & competitive, eager to please corporations; it also serves to confuse low-information voters about which party is on their side, representing their best interests.

Corporations have gamed our political system so effectively that the two-party system competes to serve corporate interests which Corporations defend as, "What's good for GM (corporations) is good for America (We the People)". Both parties, both the DLC Democrats who control the Democratic Party and Republicans, are corporate t00Is.

At the top of Big Businesses' shopping lists to Democrats & Republicans is "Give us more money. And if you can't do that, if you can't fool the average American voter into going along with that, then let us be able to rake it in as we've been doing."

That's what Obama's "Healthcare Reform" legislation was all about. Republicans had their turn at delivering to Big Insurance & PhRma in 2003 with the Medicare Reform Act. After that, corporations shifted their donations to the Democrats.

When politicians have had the chance to reform campaign financing (all publicly financed) and elections, they've refused and made it more 'exclusive' (harder for third party/independent challengers), controlled by corporate media and accessible by only those with huge bankrolls.
