Have you lost your mind or were you raised in a barn?

To begin with, your experience is inaccurate because the evidence (the threads themselves) proves it to inaccurate.

You're the one who is violating the site's policy, and you think you're in the right?  You must be a joy and a delight as a houseguest.  By your logic, anyone who attended a public debate and discussion (you and your friends, let's say, attending a Townhall discussion on healthcare reform) could take out a boombox, dance in the aisles, and disrupt the proceedings.  Or you and your friends can attend an Open House at Ar!anna's home, pop CDs into her sound system because you didn't like the string quartet she'd hired to play in the background.

Your experience is inaccurate

More importantly: It's off-topic, against comment policy, and doesn't belong.

Comments on-topic get scrolled off the page, forcing readers and those who are discussing the thread's topic to have to wade through pages of nonsense.  I've seen as many as 8 pages of someone announcing that they're logging off and "good-byes'.

If discussing the topic isn't why you're here, go to a website where they do discuss the topic you want to discuss.  If one doesn't exist, START ONE.

The Republican mantra for how and where they're going to find the money to give the rich more tax cuts: "Waste, fraud and abuse".

It doesn't exist.  Not in any significant amount. Audits have been performed, government services have been streamlined for efficiency and maximum productivity.  We're down to the bones.

There is no "Waste, fraud and abuse" !

Gun-Control Advocates Resigned To Few Changes In Wake Of Giffords Shooting

"The extended magazine capability on Loughner's Glock was in the now-expired assault weapons ban."

RedArmy   12 minutes ago (9:17 PM)

Your point? He could have come with a pre ban AR or AK, that would have been perfectly legal during the ban with a 30 round magazine.

The true story here is that this lunatic was enabled every step of the way since high school, and none of the people although fearful made it public record.

===============================================================

And then what?  Making his "acting strangely public record"?

He'd committed no crime.  Acting strangely isn't against the law.  But you want to make it a crime?  And who gets to determine what "acting strangely" is?  Once you go down that path, it's not a distant journey to expand "acting strangely" to include putting peanut butter on your baloney sandwiches.  It won't be long before you find yourself on the list.

After you make it a crime to act strangely, then what?  How would you prevent his purchasing a weapon illegally?  You're going to have to lock him up.

The true story here is the same people who love guns, who reject restrictions and regulations on them, also reject everything else necessary to prevent 'perfect storms' like this from happening.

Can public schools across the nation now expect monies to be reinstated for counseling and mental health screening and treatment?

How about reinstating public facilities for the emotionally disturbed; money for mental health hospitals?

How about reinstating monies and programs for families experiencing hardship through these extreme times?

How about that public option for healthcare, and expanded coverage for mental health treatment?

Is the FCC now going to bring back the Fairness Doctrine and regulate h8 radio?

How about, finally, showing the NRA (and all corporate interests) the door from our legislative process?

Arizona Shooting Creates Unifying Pause In Confrontational Political Climate

When you're a member of Congress you have a responsibility to problem-solve and prevent tragedies like this from happening.

Another cr@zy man got a gun capable of k!lling a great number of people in a short period of time and did it.

Another Virginia Tech massacre.

Another Columbine.

Another Alabama

Another John Allen Muhammad & Lee Boyd Malvo ('Beltway snipers').

Another Christopher Speight, Appomattox shootings.

Another Jeff Weise, Red Lake, Minnesota.

Another Jiverly Wong, Binghamtom, New York.

Another Patrick 'Going Postal' Sherrill, Edmond, Oklahoma

The only difference is fewer people were k!lled this time, yesterday, but two of them were special, members of the 'establishment elites'.

Will the NRA finally be shown the door, expelled from the legislative process, and automatic weapons banned?

How about reinstating public facilities for the emotionally disturbed; money for mental health hospitals?

The Giffords Gun Clip: How A 'Weapon Of Mass Destruction' Became 'The Weapon Of Choice'

Rather ironic:

"Dear Arianna,

You can begin by calling off this !nsane
moderation policy you've imposed at HP: Every comment
I've made about this incident in the last two days (non-abusive
by the way, but definitely not 'on the bandwagon' about the
cause of this and solution being to bash h8 rhetoric) has been
scrubbed.

Hundreds of comments remain "pending" and then
are scrubbed.

HP doesn't seem to want legitimate
discourse on the subject -- HP only wants to promote the
sensationalism. The only moderation of comments seems to
be of legitimate discourse and not those that actually violate
comment policy. Most regulars to HP (political operatives
paid to disrupt and distract this 'public square') flood this
site with music video links.

Why should anyone think
that HP is no different than any other commercial corporate
media site?

Don't just talk the talk, Arianna;
walk the walk, and run a real populist non-censored website."

It's done EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' NIGHT here, and usually on the headline thread.

The comment threads are for discussing the articles at hand.  They're not for your emotional comfort.

If you want the atmosphere "lightened", go to 'light' websites.  Go to TMZ and comment on their threads.  Or go to the more frivolous articles on HP (in the ENTERTAINMENT section), or better yet go to HP's site on Facebook and talk there.

You are the reason for the mess that this nation is in.  We don't need "lightening" of the atmosphere; we need action.

And if you want to get paid for posting distraction on the internet, you're going to have to get involved in politics, in professional political and lobbying organizations.

(posting to Blogger now to avoid this mess :-) )

=========================================

Do you mean the 'Social News Network' here, where you can "Share Your Comment" to other sites?  I do that, too, cut and paste it later, after the 'offended' moderator's shift is over (really -- test it out enough and you can figure out their working hours -- HP's moderators don't scrub for the same things).

Rogue community moderators are also a problem.  There used to be a way to deal with that, tracing your own comments that got scrubbed and then filing complaints, but I posted how to do it and HP removed the ability to trace.  If anyone knows a new way, please comment.

I think it's the height of our patriotism that we continue to try to influence others by posting on HP.  ;-)

I recommend that if you activate the 'Social News Network' here, you do what I've done:  I created a mirror website that catches and publishes everything that I post here.  That way you won't lose comments that you've slaved over through the censorship moderation at HP.  You can also cut and paste it later, after the 'offended' moderator's shift is over (really -- test it out enough and you can figure out their working hours -- HP's moderators don't scrub for the same things).

Gun-Control Advocates Resigned To Few Changes In Wake Of Giffords Shooting

The weapon used was purchased legally. The weapon was one that had been banned during the 1990s, but that law expired in 2004 and Giffords supported ending the ban. She supports gun rights, opposed the Washington DC gun ban, and signed an amicus brief with the US Supreme Court in support of overturning the ban.

The roll call vote in the Senate on the (Dianne) Feinstein amendment to extend the ban, March 2, 2004. Russ Feingold lovers, note his "nay" vote, as well as other Democrats still serving, like Harry Reid, Mary Landrieu, Tim Johnson (not voting), Ben Nelson, Max Baucus.

In 2007, Representative Carolyn Maloney's bill to reinstate the ban with 67 co-sponsors (Giffords was not among them), went nowhere.

HR 6257 (a bill to reinstate the ban on assault weapons, as well as to expand the list of banned weapons, for ten years) was introduced in June 2008, and then got buried in a House subcommittee one month later, where it d!ed at the end of that Congress (2008).

After Obama and Democrats won the 2008 elections and took control of the White House and Congress, Dianne Feinstein said in April 2009 about introducing legislation in the Senate to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban, "I wouldn't bring it up now."

Obama has stated that he wouldn't push for the reinstatement of the Assault Weapons Ban. He supports ratifying CIFTA, an inter-American treaty to curb international small arms trafficking.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats are willing to take on the gvn lobby (or any corporate industry), nor spend the money on the prevention side (funding for mental health treatment, public education and social safety nets, etc.).

So across America, the fight (& gridlock) continues

If I had to bet right now, I'd say what is going to come out of this are more draconian laws to ban speech and privacy rights (all of said legislation will be used for drug crimes and political groups working to unseat the entrenched corporate power, and not crimes of 'terr0r').  All because it happened to "their own (Giffords, Judge John Roll and Giffords aide Gabriel Zimmerman;  if you want to get legislation that members of Congress wouldn't necessarily support passed fast, before they can think, personalize the event and make them think their own lives are imminently in danger).

Nobody is talking about this?

Not at HP, with this !nsane moderation policy.  I've written dozens of posts on this subject since the story broke, only to have them hung up in the que of hundreds of pending comments, and then scrubbed.

It's what I (and I'm sure many others) were talking about as soon as this story broke 2 days ago.  But then the paid-off powers that be (NRA- and corporate-bought politicians) couldn't have gotten out in front of this story to control the response (no regulations of guns and no money and programs for mental health treatment).

The powers-that-be aren't interested in prevention if it means cutting into their profits.
