It has less to do with the Senate, in particular, and all Democrats, in general. Starting at the top, and trickling down on all. What a bitter disappointment Obama and all Democratic politicians have turned out to be.

In an interview two days ago with WashingtonPost's Jonathan Capeheart, Valerie Jarrett, senior aide to Obama, says about Minnesota gay teen Justin Aarberg, who committed suicide in July after being bullied, that he made a "lifestyle choice." It's at around 4:15 on the video:
