They promised that if they were given the power of the White House and control of Congress, there would be no more supplemental spending bills to fund the wars. It hasn't happened yet.
And now, all that Obama is doing is moving US troops around, leaving 56,000 combat trained & ready troops in Iraq, and shifting combat duties in Iraq to off-the-books private contractors. The money and funding for them and their activities (including responsibility for the atrocities they commit in our names) now is getting buried within Pentagon and State Department budgets.

Politifact has gamed its way of measuring Obama's "promise-keeping"; its categories ('NO ACTION', 'IN THE WORKS', 'STALLED' or 'NOT YET RATED) are misleading. Many a campaign promise or pledge (hundreds of them) has been generously placed in these categories to languish so that Politifact can cut Obama much slack by only recognizing 22 broken promises.
As Politifact claims, "Once we find action is completed, we rate them 'PROMISE KEPT' 'COMPROMISE' or 'PROMISE BROKEN'". By Politifact's own definition, it enables Obama to keep these issues in limbo for 4 years.
One of many examples of Politifact's gaming its list is that Politifact doesn't even list in its "Promises Broken" category Obama's campaign promise to impose 'Windfall Profits Taxes on the Oil & Gas Industry" - Obama immediately reneged on that promise once in office, saying, "The prices have now dropped - We'll see about doing that if or when they rise again." Oil hit over $80/barrel (the amount that, had Obama kept his promise, the windfall profits tax would have been triggered) months ago. Politifact has conveniently ignored this issue.

Last year, Obama disappeared from the healthcare debate as the Tea Party grew & bullied at Town Halls. The Tea Party has always been a myth, & a myth that Obama & Rahm Emanuel have helped to create. In all of the US, there are 600 registered members of the Tea Party.

I (and others) have been writing about the DLC and its plan to move the Democratic Party to the right for about 20 years. What we're talking about is not a great secret; The DLC has said it itself, that it wants to move the Democratic Party to the right in order to be able to govern "from the center, for 100 years". You might want to expand your research to studying the DLC, its history, members, and plans for the future.

As far as "Who gets to determine what real Democrats are", it's not a nebulous concept; it's actually written and voted on. It's called the platform of the Democratic Party, and includes very specific planks on what Democrats stand for and are working to achieve.
I am to the left of Obama and I am a mainstream Democrat. I am one of the base, the 70% of the Democratic Party who are liberals. I am far from far left. Far left does exist within the Democratic Party, but the far left mostly exists outside of the Democratic Party, as Independents.
I would love to hear whether you've ever heard of the DLC, their history, what they're about and who they are. Most Democratic voters don't know what the DLC is and who they are, despite the fact that the DLC controls the Democratic Party.
And despite the DemocraticParty's platform, the fixed definition of what the DemocraticParty stands for and is working to achieve, the DLC is active in subverting that platform and works to achieve for transnational corporations, just like Republicans. One example of that is the DemocraticParty's plank on healthcare reform: Getting affordable, quality medical treatment for all. That's not the same thing as forcing everyone to buy insurance policies. Having insurance is not the same thing as being able to get affordable quality medical care. But that is what Republicans worked toward, and what Obama and the DLC did.

Then who else is to the left and right of that person (and so on)?

No, it's not progress (for the People) if the incremental movement is going in the same direction and consolidating the gains established by Bush & Cheney (and really begun under Nixon and then later Reagan).
The Obama administration is continuing most of Bush's policies, and even going Bush-Cheney one better on unitary executive claims, opacity in government, and abusives of Constitutional protections and invasions into privacy.
Obama's most ardent supporters make the same mistake of believing that if there's a 'D' after the name, the politician must be for traditional Democratic Party values, i.e., populist policies over corporate. That hasn't been true since the DLC took over the Democratic Party in the late 1980s.
Just as Bill Clinton consolidated the gains of Reagan-Bush with many Democratic voters clueless as to the foundation that was being laid in his doing so, Obama is repeating that history. And like Clinton's failure to hold Reagan-Bush to account (Iran-Contra, October Surprise), Obama is repeating the mistake by blocking investigations and prosecutions of Bush-Cheney.
The Democracy ended there.
And Obama's most ardent supporters do no one any favors, least of all themselves, by throwing themselves under the bus for Obama.

MADDOW: America, it‘s your tax dollars at work. This is the war economy as translated to land-locked Central Asia. We dump a ton of money thinking that we are paying for our military effort. Everything that goes along with our military effort ends up letting - or in this case, directing like a squirt gun, instead of flooding -

And if you were to build this one - it‘s obviously under construction - that is a $1 million plus house in Kabul with no paved streets.

Over the course of US history, corporations have managed to game our political system, and done it so effectively that the two-party system competes to serve corporate interests while defending that service as, "What's good for GM (corporations) is good for America (We the People)".
DLC Democrats who control the Democratic Party and Republicans are corporate t00Is. Like siblings competing for the attention and approval (campaign contributions) of a parent, Republicans and DLC-controlled Democrats try to outdo each other in delivering for their real constituent, Big Corporations. The trick for them has been to make it seem as if they were really working on behalf of We the People.
Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama&Democrats were for strong regulations on banks, Wall Street, investigations, prosecutions, restitution of what has been robbed from the middle class and poor for the past 30+ years, environmental clean-up, clean, sustainable renewable energy (& that isn't nuclear), putting an end to the wars and occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan, affordable, quality universal healthcare (which ObamaCare is not), and more. The DLC-controlled Democratic party gives lip service to these & all populist issues, because like the Republican Party, the DLC works for the benefit of transnational corporations.
Unless & until there is drastic and uncompromising change to our campaign financing system, until corporations are no longer 'persons' and are prohibited from participating in elections and politics, all efforts to reform government are useless.

It is the PREsumption of innocence, not theASSumption of innocence. People are not innocent until proven guilty. They are either innocent or guilty, and according lawyers who have tried to explain this to me, one can assume a suspect is guilty simply because he or she has been arrested and arraigned. The presumption of innocence is an agreement to set aside one's own personal feelings or opinions, and judge the case based solely on the facts presented.

What you've written is significantly muddled, but if you're saying that a person can be assumed (by whom?) to be guilty because she's been arrested, then no, that's not accurate.
The presumption of innocence (the principle that one is considered innocent until proven guilty) is a legal right of someone accused in a criminal trial.
The burden of proof is on the prosecution, which has to collect and present enough compelling evidence to convince the trier of fact (judge and/or jury), who is restrained and ordered by law to consider only actual evidence and testimony that is legally admissible, and in most cases lawfully obtained, that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
In case of remaining doubts, the accused is to be acquitted.
But if you're not the judge or on the jury, you can PREsume or ASSume any d@mned thing you want.

It's not on my say-so, and had you done some research you would know that.
The feds (FEMA & all federal monies, the disaster response, the reconstruction, all of the programs related to them, all post-disaster policies, for medical needs, hospitals, schools, etc.) gave out money in a near equal share to Louisiana as it gave to Mississippi, in spite of the fact that Louisiana had 75% of the damage done by Katrina and Mississippi had 23%.

Louisiana was asking that the relief dollars flow in proportion to the damage.
Mississippi has gotten a disproportionate amount of relief dollars simply because at the time of Katrina, Republicans controlled the White House and Congress, and a Republican was governor of Mississippi and a Democrat was governor of Louisiana. What happened with Republicans in power was a political response, and not a humanitarian response.
Nothing's changed with Democrats in power.

Nobody is talking about the government stopping Glenn Beck, but that doesn't mean we can't question what he's up to.
Today wasn't a religious holiday. It was the anniversary of a political event. Of course Beck was there "to do politics", or Beck's version of politics. The real story was that civil rights leaders, who should have organized and planned events for the day, were caught with their pants down. They've gotten fat and lazy, complacent, especially with Obama, a black president, in the White House. Out of one side of their mouths, they talk about how rac!sm runs rampant in the nation (it does), and out of the other side of their mouth, they go silent on this administration's lethargy on civil rights abuses. Because it's a Democratic administration.
I can't fault Republicans for seizing the opportunity that civil rights leaders left by planning nothing for this weekend. I can, however, lament the Democratic Party for always being a day late and a dollar short. Democratic leadership in this country have failed We The People, terribly.

The simplest reading is that the government isn't to make one religion "the religion of the land", or prevent anyone from worshipping as he or she wishes, or speaking up as he or she chooses, or prevent people from gathering for any purpose so long as it's non-violent, or to complain to the government about the government.
Religion and politics are not to mix, for the good of both.

Obama insisted Lieberman remain in the Democratic Caucus. In spite of multiple betrayals by Lieberman before and during the 2008 election (Lieberman endorsed McCain, campaigned FOR McCain).
Over REAL Democratic senators, Obama insisted Lieberman keep the chairmanship of the Governmental Affairs & Homeland Security Committee. That's the committee that whitewashed the Bush administration's failure during Hurricane Katrina. Obama rubberstamped that committee's not investigating Bush once Democrats took over control of government after the 2008 election.
Does anyone really believe that Obama got nothing for that concession? No agreement that Lieberman would vote as Obama told him to vote?
Obama never pressured JoeLieberman, Ben Nelson or Blanche Lincoln, or any Blue Dog). That's by their own admission. The Democratic leadership could've taken away committee chairs of members in their caucus that joined with Republicans and threatened to filibustered a public option for healthcare.
The DNC could've taken away reelection funds. But it hasn't. Because Lieberman & Blue Dogs (& Republicans) provide cover to Obama & the DLC-controlled Democratic Party, to let them continue to serve corporate interests over the interests of the People.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama&Democrats want what they, their supporters, want. The DLC-controlled DemocraticParty gives lip service to all populist issues (like civil rights protections, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, PublicHealthcare, Wall Street reform, environmental & energy issues, etc.).
If the Bush years taught us nothing else, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid & relentless in your sales pitch & tactics. It's not that Bush&R0ve were geniuses & knew something that nobody else knew; Bush&R0ve were just more ruthless (clumsy & careless many political graybeards would say) in doing what politicians & the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans.
Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination) & the oldest, most experienced politicians in our nation's history (including the Rove machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politicians (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush&Cheney off the table & have us still reelecting them, not marching on Washington with torches&pitchforks?
Obama&Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it.
The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to deliver on any of our alleged shared objectives.
