I don't think it has a thing to do with perfection. It's got to do with straightforwardness and honesty. Entirely too much is presumed when Democratic voters hear that a politician who has a pleasing personality is a Democrat.
The DLC controls the Democrats in office across the nation, in both national offices and state offices. Their positions on the issues are pro-corporate and vary little from the Republican Party of the 1950s -- "What's good for GM is good for the nation."
By calling them 'progressives' or 'liberals', voters get confused into believe they're something they're not. If only Rendell (and Obama) were liberals or progressives. They're not. They're moderate Republicans, more personable and affable, but definitely not about Democratic policies.
