Jim DeMint Would Accept Compromise On Bush Tax Cuts

Sunday, November 14, 2010

I have a hard time believing people's memories are so short.

No, it wasn't a done deal.

To begin with, the TARP was passed into law by a Democratically controlled Congress.  Paulson wanted all of the money, then, no accountability whatsoever, but because of the outcries by the People, only half of it was released.

Obama had the opportunity and the clout to impose any kind of restrictions, regulations, even nationalizing the banks, but chose not to before handing out the second half of the money.

It's not wrong, and I rest my case.

Jim DeMint Would Accept Compromise On Bush Tax Cuts

It's not their money.

It's borrowing so that We The People wind up paying what the rich should be paying in taxes.

We would be increasing the deficit by borrowing.

We're already insolvent.

You're no patriot, dearie.  Why do you hate America so?  Why do you hate Americans?  And, because I doubt you are making that kind of money to qualify, why do you hate yourself so?

Jim DeMint Would Accept Compromise On Bush Tax Cuts

If Bush's tax cuts are allowed to expire as they are set to on December 31st, the deficit would be cut in half, instantly.

If the tax cuts are continued for the rich, we would have to borrow $700 billion to pay for it.

If the tax cuts are continued for everyone, we would have to borrow $3 trillion to pay for it.

This 2-year extension "compromise" would have us needing to borrow $70-140 billion for the rich's portion and $383 billion for the middle class's portion.

As usual, Obama intends to deal with this backwards, too -- He intends to give Republicans what they want (tax cuts for the rich) and put off all other legislation for the benefit of the People (like, oh, adding a public option to healthcare legislation) until later, hoping that Republicans will agree out of gratitude for the rich's tax cuts.

It's for actions like this that I call Obama a fraud, a con man.  Any lawyer who negotiated a contract like this on behalf of a client would likely find himself facing a malpractice suit for breach of fiduciary duty.  This is history repeating itself.  This is exactly what Obama did releasing the TARP money.  The banks were over a barrel and wanted the money so badly that Obama just gave it to them, no strings attached.  "We'll talk about transparency, who the banks are actually giving the money to, and regulations later."

Once the money was in spent, the banks said, "Forget you and your regulations and transparency!  We don't have to tell you anything and we're not going to."

Then they gave themselves great big bonuses.

David Axelrod Leaving White House In First Half Of 2011

This isn't news, people.  Axelrod already did this after Obama first got into the White House.  He's brought back in when Obama's numbers plunge and are needed to rise, to pass major legislation or upcoming elections.  As political director, Axelrod yo-yos back and forth.

Dan Coats, Senator-Turned-Lobbyist, Headed Back To Senate With Business Victories

I don't know if you've seen this or this (or any of the many other problems in both directions that you can read about on the pages of those links, that Republicans should be concerned about, too), but Democrats did nothing about this in the past 4 years that they've had the power to do something about it.

The United States works, or it did work, because of the covenant We The People make with our government:  We agree to live under the rule of law in a democratic republic (where other people make the laws under which we agree to abide) as long as we get to choose who those people are who will be making the laws, and that will be applied to everyone.

It is under those conditions that we consent to be governed.

When we no longer trust in the process, when we no longer trust that the selection process by which our elected representatives is fair and accurate, or that the laws don't apply equally to all, that all bets are off.

No government can stand once that happens.

I am struck by the carelessness (and the sheer stup!dity, really) of those who are alleged to be the best and the brightest, in the highest offices of leadership in our land, who appear to have forgotten this.
