The relationship between the king and the speech therapist began about a decade earlier than depicted in the movie is, IMHO, the most relevant one. It relates to the king's motivation for wanting/needing to overcome his stammer. The movie also has the king (and his wife) more attractive (politically) than history has judged them (in real life, they Nod-see-appeasers, if not outright anti-sem/tes). George was not considered as the brightest crayon in the box, if you know what I mean, but just the casting of Colin Firth added a good 50 points to his IQ.
But people need to remember that it's not a documentary; it's a theatrical production.
