Bush's Waterboarding Admission Prompts Calls For Criminal Probe

Thursday, November 11, 2010

If for no other reason than this, the story up at the top left of this page (Key Republican: Bush Should 'Get A Medal' For Authorizing Waterboarding), Obama and Democrats must stop obstructing justice and begin investigations and prosecutions into the Bush administration.

If Peter King's position is left to stand, unchallenged and un-smacked down by the criminal justice system, t0rture becomes the law of this land.  And not just on foreign detainees (remember that it was detainees, uncharged and untried, who were t0rtured), but on US citizens, too.

The effects of the Bush administration's abuses have already trickled down into our own culture and criminal justice system.  We've got cops using tasers on citizens who aren't doing anything.  And who can forget Oscar Grant's k!lling?

Obama is asserting that the president can k!ll Americans without any due process or oversight.  He also is pushing for 'preventive detention', as unAmerican a policy as there ever was, worthy of the Singapore or Indonesian justice system, but not the US's justice system.

We're going in the wrong direction, and the only way back on course is to figure out actually happened to get us here.
