Bush's Waterboarding Admission Prompts Calls For Criminal Probe
Thursday, November 11, 2010
By refusing to investigate and prosecute George W. Bush, President Obama has put the country's welfare first. We simply cannot have a situation where each incoming administration turns around and investigates and prosecutes the previous one. That is the way to becoming an unstable, banana republic.
==========
I think you have that last part backwards, but let's see if I understand you correctly:
By Republicans intentionally abusing the independent counsel statute which had stuck in their craw ever since Nixon and Watergate, your solution is to not prosecute the crimes of a presidential administration.
By that logic, Butch and Sundance should have gone into law enforcement and zealousy gone after E.H. Harriman before embarking on their crime spree.
You have just given your seal of approval to the Cheney wet-dream of a 'Unitary Executive', of lawless administrations beholden to no one and nobody (least of all the American people), and the de@th of this democracy.
The president is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. This isn't a matter of a choice for Obama to make, to "look forward, not back"; he is obligated to investigate and prosecute.
Has it occurred to you that had Bill Clinton not done what Obama's doing (investigated/ prosecuted Iran-Contra), that the last eight years of Bush-Cheney probably never would have happened?
