I don't know why Sarah Palin is in the politics section at HP.  She quit her job as governor, and now works as a broadcaster and reality show performer.  She always was just a 'personality' in media and entertainment, playing at being a governor and quitting when it got too 'real' for her.  Her daughter has been crowned a 'star' (achieving national celebrity for promiscuity that resulted in out-of-wedlock teen parenthood) so that she could appear on another reality show ('Dancing With The Stars').  Another case of corporate media bad-messaging, providing role-models for our youth that show them shortcuts to fame and fortune instead of through education, commitment, hard work, experience and achievement.

What do you say, Arianna?  When Glen Beck says something about Obama, it's not in the Political section, but in your Media section.  When Martin Sheen is arrested for sitting in at some political rally, it's in your Entertainment section.  

Make it official:  Get the Palins out of Politics and put all stories about them in your Entertainment and Media sections.

Millionaires To Obama: Tax Us

Obama and Democratic leadership have already indicated they're on board with Social Security cuts, privatizing, etc. -- Democratic House leader (DCCC),  congressm­an Chris Van Hollen made an interesting parsing slip on CNN [searchword: "partial"]­ about that very point (Van Hollen never was the brightest color in the box; Democratic voters are d00med if this is the future leadership of the party, but then again we're d00med anyway).

There should be tax HIKES on corporations and the rich.  There should be massive cuts to the military.  Banks should be threatened with nationalization unless they begin lending to small businesses.  

Democratic politicians should be beating this drum, loudly and constantly.  

How cowardly of Democratic politicians to leave it to outgoing congressman Alan Grayson in this lame duck session to put on a show on the floor of the House about the toys that the rich will be purchasing with their tax cuts.

Has anybody seen the Democratic leadership lately?  Where is Obama?  Where is Harry Reid?  Where is Nancy Pelosi?  Where is Steny Hoyer?  Where is Jim Clyburn?  WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE'S LEADERS???

Come to think of it, where's Elizabeth Warren?  Weren't her supporters, the ones who assured everyone it was just fine for her to take an advisory role to Obama instead of one with teeth, with power, saying we'd be hearing from her all the time, calling Obama and Geithner out?

Obama's been a quisling from the very beginning.  Pro-corpo­rate, pro-war and military industrial complex.  That's what the DLC is all about.

Millionaires To Obama: Tax Us

If Bush's tax cuts are allowed to expire as they are set to on December 31st, the deficit would be cut in half, instantly.   

If the tax cuts are continued for the rich, we would have to borrow $700 billion to pay for it.

If the tax cuts are continued for everyone, we would have to borrow $3 trillion to pay for it.

And if there is a 2-year extension "compromise", we would still have to borrow $70-140 billion for the rich's portion and $383 billion for the middle class's portion.

Obama is expanding the wars into Yemen.  

Obama's broken yet another promise (to begin ending the Afghanistan war in 2011), putting Americans off now until 2014, at least.
Obama wants to expand drone strikes in Pakistan.

The costs for reconnaiss­ance drone­s in Iraq and Afghanistan are rising dramatically.  One predator drone costs $4.5 million.  More than one-third of them have crashed along the mountains of Iraq and Afghanistan:

 Pilots, who fly them from trailers halfway around the world using joysticks and computer screens, say some of the controls are clunky. For example, the missile-firing button sits dangerously close to the switch that shuts off the plane’s engines. Pilots are also in such short supply that the service recently put out a call for retirees to help.

What's the Pentagon's solution?  Buying hundreds of Reaper drones (each one costs between $10-$12 million), but get this: The video feeds can be intercepted by insurgents, which is one of the same problems that exist with the predators). 

Where's all the money coming from?

Oil Spill Continues To Wash Ashore In Gulf, BP Deep-Cleaning Beaches In Response

"So the question is: Is Obama, with the best and the brightest advisors surrounding him, just horribly misinformed?  Or is he a corrupt Iiar?"

Not necessarily disagreeing with your last statement ( the "corrupt" bit is a "bit over the top").

I think the facts of what Obama has done while in office (and even before, with his flip-flop on his FISA vote in July 2008, during the presidential campaign) support the charge of corruption (1 a : to become tainted or rotten b : to become morally debased, 2 a: to cause disintegration or ruin).  

You can choose to think of Obama and his intentions in whatever way makes you happy.  What you can't do is explain how any of what Obama's done these past two years has been in the People's and not the Corporations' interests.  Or how, in this catastrophic event in the Gulf, Obama's allowing BP to flood the Gulf of Mexico with millions of gallons of a dispersant (Corexit), a neurotoxin that's so dangerous it is banned in the UK (it causes respiratory, nervous system, liver, kidney and blood disorders -- Let's just say it: It causes de@th in the living organisms it comes in contact with, including human beings) can be considered anything but corrupt.  BP's sole purpose for using dispersant was to hide the amount of oil that was G U S H I N G  from the blowout.  

I think you're in massive denial yourself, to have written what you did, specifically challenging that comment of mine and trying to make 'seeps' acceptable.   What would that mean to you, for your life, if you were to believe that Obama is corrupt?  What would that mean to you personally?

Oil Spill Continues To Wash Ashore In Gulf, BP Deep-Cleaning Beaches In Response

Individual spill rates of 'seeps' are much lower than the G U S H I N G  from the Deepwater Horizon blowout.  As well, these much smaller 'seeps' are dispersed around the Gulf, so that the amount of oil released from each 'seep' degrades quickly.

With BP's Deepwater Horizon blowout, the oil all  G U S H E D  out at the same time, in the same place.  "Natural" 'seeps' occur spaced out, a bit at a time, over a wide geography -- The oceans can degrade small amounts of oil 'seeps' within 5 days, continually.  Water in one location can only degrade so much oil at a time; the Deepwater Horizon blowout  overwhelmed the ocean's natural oil-coping mechanisms.


Strong oil seeps can lead to increased microbial productivity (as those bacteria break down more abundant oil) and result in some local hypoxia (lack of oxygen) on the ocean floor, but not to the point of causing large dead zones.  Further, individual seeps are not always active and the release rate can even vary considerably during a single day and from day to day.  As a result, only a small area around a seep is ever actually exposed to "fresh," un-degraded oil, and that is when it is most toxic.

What we know as "oil" is actually a varying combination of thousands of different compounds.  Many of these react differently and have different fates when released into the water: some molecules evaporate, others degrade in sunlight ("photolysis"), some dissolve in seawater, some get eaten by microbes, and others sink and end up in sediments.  That is, if they don't wash up on a beach or become entrained in the biosphere first.

The BP blowout in the Gulf of Mexico is an ELE (Extinction Level Event).

We were already driving the Sixth Great Extinction before the BP blowout in the Gulf -- We are a very careless species.

Let me first dispense with this idea that what is "natural" equates to 'good' or 'healthy' or even commonly occurring.

Botulism is natural, anthrax is natural, automobile accidents are natural, rabies in bats is natural, dogs eating their own feces is natural, but none are good or healthy or phenomena that we'd like to see or create more of.

Now, to the "seepage" versus  G U S H I N G  (what happened in the Deepwater Horizon blowout):

Small quantities of oil do "seep" when enough cracks and fissures form above a reservoir.  Oceans have an ability, limited, to deal with oil that 'seeps' out slowly and is widely dispersed.  Oceans do not have the capability of accommodating massive amounts of oil  G U S H I N G in one place; marine ecosystems can't cope with that kind of assault.

Oil from natural "seeps" normally stays in the water for between 10 hours and 5 days.  The area around seeps don't have any great effect on the surrounding biological communities.  The animals living around seeps haven't needed to evolve in order to survive in the environment.  

In that time that natural "seeps" normally stay in the water, those molecules that easily can be broken down are broken down, leaving behind the remaining, heavier oil.  This heavier oil consists mostly of larger compounds that are more difficult to dissolve, evaporate or be digested by microbes.  These molecules sink to the floor.

An analysis of sediment samples from different areas around a natural seep revealed a consistent rate of hydrocarbon loss in the oil that eventually sank.  This indicates that there is an upper limit to how much oil can be broken down by natural forces in the ocean.  

Hence, the difference between 'seeps' and  G U S H I N G  (or more the more politically quaint and deceitful: 'Spills').
