Obama Turns To Local Media To Promote Reelection Message
Sunday, August 5, 2012
Forget "local" media; I'd like to see Obama and other Democrats in office have to face quality questions from journalists like Chris Hedges, Robert Scheer, Russ Baker, Amy Goodman, Laura Flanders, Matt Taibbi, Jeremy Scahill, John Nichols, Russell Mokhiber, Glenn Greenwald, and others.
Fox (with its far rightwing, conservatives, Tea Partiers, paleoconservatives, neoconservatives, moderate Republicans, Blue Dogs, Yellow Dogs, etc.) gets a bite at the apple (candidates from both parties).
Corporate media (mainstream media, with its moderate Republicans, corporate Democrats, neoliberals, Blue Dogs, Independents, etc.), gets a bite.
The closest that leftist journalists can get to the source, to question candidates, is the friends of the candidates' surrogates. Mostly leftist journalists are left to talk with academia, bureaucrats, intelligentsia, and the ordinary citizen suffering the policies and legislation of the 1% -- It's great for laying foundation and context and identifying the problems, but never gets to hold candidates feet to fire and have to account to the citizens. So politicians never have to give straight answers.
