On Obama, Teddy Roosevelt, And The Not-So-Fierce Urgency Of Maybe Next Term

Yes, it was filibuster­-proof ; 60 in the Democratic Caucus, and with two of the 60 possibly dying at any time.   Obama slowed down the momentum of his victory and let the People's business slow to a standstill­.

And given how voting districts are drawn after the census, the outcome of the 2008 election made government as Democratic as it's ever going to get in the foreseeabl­e future. 2008 was as good as it's going to get for Democrats, and as good as it's going to get for Obama. He's not going to get more Democrats on his coattails in 2012 than he got in 2008.

Obama doesn't even want a more progressiv­e Democratic Congress (he did everything he could to discourage turnout and prevent progressiv­e Democrats winning); Republican­s and DLC-contro­lled Democrats provide him with great cover in delivering to his corporate masters.  

All incumbents need to be booted out, both sides of the aisle, replaced by third party candidates­.
