I think the only one who's looking "hyper-emotional" is you.
The only assumption I make is that, as liberals, as Democrats, we support Democratic policies and legislation, and Obama doesn't. Particularly on this issue, healthcare, Obama's own life experience wasn't helpful in informing his governance. I think it is telling that in circumstances that millions of other Americans are having to deal with in their families (and will have to do much more in the future because of what Obama and Republicans are up to), Obama obfuscated any role as an advocate for his mother and does what is a theme throughout Obama's life: He observed.
When the momentum was there for ending the insurance and pharmaceutical industries' grip on controlling Americans' access to medical treatment and employment-based insurance, Obama institutionalized their roles as gatekeepers for all time. And he put the fox into the chicken coop, by having an insurance industry stooge writing the regulations.
