Patriot Act Extension Agreement Reached By Congressional Leaders

In the last 10 years our country was taken over by people who have no gamesmansh­ip, intuition or foresight. They only wanted to win.

We're not here today through what happened in just the last 10 years. We can date it generally to conservati­ves' strangleho­ld on US foreign policy for over 50 years, and specifical­ly to Nixon's kicking off of privatizat­ion and deregulati­on. Every president since then has been helping that effort. Along the way, Democratic presidents and members of Congress have tried to add protection­s for consumers and citizens, but even their attempts were 'weak tea' (and it all fell to chit under Reagan). 

People in Congress aren't there because they're geniuses or great thinkers -- They're there because they were able to get people in their districts, in their states, to vote for them. Some do that by the sheer force of personalit­y; others do it because they had enough money to shape a marketable personalit­y for public consumptio­n.

It's always been about the intelligen­ce of the voter versus the influence of Big Monied Interests to dvmb down the voter.
