Your insight is not unique, and has merit, however I think it is worth noting that it is proportion
ately more representa
tive of reality as you move up through the echelon of government
, i.e., local government is far more independen
t of this phenomenon than the federal govt.

To a certain extent, I agree with you. Independen
t local government is all fine and good, but federal trumps state/loca
l, and it's no accident that most local government
s are as pro-busine
ss/anti-po
pulist as it gets because the people who are on local governing bodies o it to increase their businesses
.
I've written here before that unless and until there is drastic and uncompromi
sing change to our campaign financing system, until corporatio
ns are no longer 'persons' and prohibited from participat
ing in elections and politics, all efforts to reform government are useless. But neither party is interested in doing that because it would mean they'd lose their hold on money and power (and look at the fortunes of politician
s once they leave office -- Obama's going to make BillClinto
n look like a piker in the 'after-off
ice' money grab; enough to keep Michelle in diamonds and pearls that she told him to keep sending her way on the OprahShow last year). So where does that leave us?
