State Workers Face Cuts, But Say 'Don't Blame Us'

In addition to what traceymari­e told you, people who work in the public sector earn lower salaries than what they would make doing the same or equivalent job in the private sector.  They are told (and there is a general consensus) that what they do is noble, charitable­, patriotic, and they're not doing it to get rich.  And they're not (getting rich).  They're foregoing higher salaries, performing what are generally routine and boring (mind-numb­ingly so) work for job security.
