As one who has been around HuffPo since its debut (and hence, witness to the comment style and practices on this website and others) I believe what you're seeing and attributin
g to "progressi
ves" is, in actuality, an orchestrat
ed campaign by political operatives paid to spread disinforma
tion and shape the public's perception of a very unpopular program that the government has no intention of stopping or changing. And not because it's successful or even necessary, but because it's a cash cow for
an extremely well-connected private security contractor.
While I certainly don't object to identifyin
g people by their political leanings, I think in this instance it's a mistake to lay this at any one group's door (progressi
ves) -- Americans of all political ideology are being misinforme
d as to the risks both from the threat of terr0r!sm and
the government's solutions.
More importantl
y, though, you might want to ask yourself, "What difference does a commenter'
s political ideologica
l bent make to their argument?"
As a liberal (I reject the label 'progressi
ve', for reasons I've talked about at HuffPo in the past), I find that labeling's purpose online is to foment conflict that suits the profession
al political establishm
ent's (corporate
) aims in keeping the People disorganiz
ed and at odds with one another.
