Gulf Oil Spill: Obama Administration Insists Its Options Are Limited When It Comes To BP
Monday, May 24, 2010
This actually isn't rocket science. What it's going to take to fix is what it would take to fix had it happened on land. Only with submersibles. By the way, BP doesn't have the market cornered on engineers or submersibles. The kind of submersibles used in operations like this you would typically find in navies.
It may not be possible to fix this. What that means is that if it isn't, that well will continue to gush until there's no more oil in it or the pressure gradients have matched up.
There are different legs of this disaster, and stopping the oil gushing is one part. Protecting the coastlines and wetlands is another. Cleaning up the oil from the sea is another. Preventing any of the other deepsea drilling rigs from ever leaking is another. There are better methods than what BP is doing. For Obama to hand the reins over to BP is more than cr@zy -- It's criminal.
