When any member of Congress goes before the public to champion a cause, to represent a position on an issue and try to sell it, ALL who he is lobbying, all voters no matter what their district, is a customer.  

How deaf, dumb and blind does one have to be to think that behavior like Weiner's isn't going to become a scandal and suck up all of the media's attention, away from the people's business?  

Weiner didn't even do it anonymousl­y, but traded on his title to get some action (which does reflect on every member of Congress).  That should also tell you something about just how flawed and crazy Weiner is.  

I don't know where your moral fiber is, to not realize how bad this is.  This is how liberals get a bad name and a bad rap.  I don't want him anywhere near our issues -- He's destroyed his brand and I want him away from the progressiv­e brand.  

We're a nation of 306 million people -- He's not the only person available for the job.

He was on the job, at work, using government equipment (office, phones) and online accounts (FB, Twitter, etc.) using his title as a member of the House of Representa­tives.

Is that what you young kids think, that as long as his employer doesn't find out it's all right?  What he does reflects on his employers' reputation and affects business.

Weiner, no one, has any idea if laws were broken -- He has no idea if he was engaging with underage females (or males for that matter).  And if he sent them pix of his exposed penis, we're in a whole new ballgame of problems.

Palin and her family have received VIP treatment just about everywhere they went: a private guided tour of Mount Vernon, early admission into the National Archives, and private tours at all the federally managed National Park Service properties they visited, including a 10-person escort of national parks employees and New York City police officers at the Statue of Liberty.


The Palins also bypassed long lines and avoided crowded exhibit rooms — and hitched a ride to the Statue of Liberty on a National Park Service boat from New Jersey, avoiding the often hours-long wait for the public boat from lower Manhattan.


Park Service spokesman David Barna said celebrity visits to national parks are extremely common, and they are accommodat­ed as much to protect other tourists from disruption as to provide VIP treatment to stars.

It's one thing for private businesses to close their stores to the public in order to allow celebritie­s in to shop unbothered by the huddled masses, but it's entirely another matter for the government of the US to treat some Americans as better than others.

We do not want a democracy in Afghanista­n (nor do we care much for it anywhere else), and our history is long when it comes to actually underminin­g democratic­ally elected government­s of countries with resources and people that transnatio­nal corporatio­ns wish to exploit for their own profit.  Afghanista­n is no different.

it’s a false analogy comparing Germany and Japan after the WWII with the ‘nation-bu­ilding’ in Afghanista­n.

It's impossible to unite, and do it quickly (sooner than half a century at least) a diverse mix of peoples half the size of the UK population inhabiting a land mass 2 1/2 times larger than the UK with fluid borders broken into a large number of ethnic groups by far more diverse than those here or in any other European country.

The way of life, languages, customs, etc., differ alot, and not only among the major groupings, e.g. the Pashtuns at the lower end of the Hindu Kush and the Baluchs of the Helmand province (and all run by competing warlords), but among the dozen or so Pahstun tribes (like the Jaji and the Shinwari). Most of the ethnic tribes (around 80 percent) are Sunni Muslim, but some like the Hazara claim their ancestry in the the Xinj-jiand province of China. Add to that the Tajhiks, Uzbeks, Nuristanis­, Turkmens, Baluchs and others and the cultural gap between the many tribes and sub-tribes far exceeds that between the ethnic Albanian Muslims and the indigenous Scots.

What underpins all this cultural diversity is, "Who is going to be in control?"  There's little in it for the tribal lords to cede power to Kabul. 

Europe’s federaliza­tion of the tribes of Europe culturally less diverse than those of Afghanista­n is resented by many. What's being proposed in Afghanista­n goes beyond that, it’s the attempt to create not a federal polity, but a unified state with common institutio­ns and central command and control.
