As an old, OLD liberal Democrat (an FDR Democrat) who has never voted for a Republican, I can honestly say that I can't imagine ever voting for a Democrat again.

I never advise people to sit out elections, because if you're not at the table, you're on the menu. It's what p!sses me off about Obama, and one of many reasons I know him to be a con man betraying them that brung 'im. Because by shutting out liberals, the base, from his administration, by taking single payer, a public option, off the table, eliminating regulatory oversight from finance reform legislations, he's given pro-corporate, Republican-like policies an inside line. The People's advocates can't even get in the door of this government.

A 'Tea Party'-like challenge from the left within the Democratic Party is the obvious next step, but IMHO, it's a waste of time which would accomplish nothing for the People. To begin with, no one in the Democratic Party will do it. It would be su!cide for any professional politician in the Democratic Party to run against the party's sitting president (the DLC has gotten too powerful, what with a Democrat in the White House and a Democratically-controlled Senate overseeing an NSA with today's eavesdropping abilities) .

Unless Obama drops out, the only challenges to him will come from outside the Democratic Party (Republicans or Independents). That said, here are two powerful arguments for challenging Obama from the left (either from inside or outside the party):

Michael Lerner's very powerful case for primarying Obama.

Ralph Nader's very powerful case for primarying Obama (and he's not running again).

Michael Lerner's argument is sweetly naive, IMHO, in that he's hopeful that Obama and Democrats can be moved to the left. I don't think that's true anymore. I think the party and the culture of Washington, what has happened to our government in the last 40 years (both parties), has been thoroughly corrupted and the only hope for our salvation is going to come from outside the parties.

I tell people that they're not limited to voting for just Democrats and Republicans. There are other alternatives besides sitting out the election or voting for Republicans. There are other candidates running as independents, from Green to Libertarian, in just about every race.

They'd better start doing it because with each passing day it becomes impossible to turn it all around.

99ers were cut off.  And only half of the states carry unemployed for 99 weeks.

3 million foreclosur­es to date since this meltdown began; 11 million more are in the pipeline. That's 15 million families about to lose their homes.   

This is going to spur new rounds of firings, foreclosur­es. Unemployme­nt went up last month to 9.8%.  Obama just finished negotiatin­g the NAFTA-like treaty with S. Korea; more Americans' jobs will be outsourced overseas.

The payroll tax 'holiday' is setting Social Security up for its end.  It's what Bush and Grover Norquist planned, and why Bush thinks he'll be vindicated as a great conservati­ve in history -- For ending the Great Society programs, by having bankrupted the nation so there's no way to pay out those benefits.  I saw and wrote about this years ago, as did oithers.  How could anybody not?

The economy isn't improving, it's getting worse. What Obama's doing is presiding over the end game of America, and letting the 'Haves' pick the (our) bones clean.

Democratic voters have mistakenly believed that Obama and Democrats want what they want. The DLC-contro­lled Democratic Party gives lip service to all populist issues (like civil rights protection­s, restoring habeas corpus, ending the wars, public healthcare­, Wall Street reform, environmen­tal & energy issues, etc.). 

If the Bush years taught us anything, it's that anyone can sell anything to Americans, if you're stolid and relentless in your sales pitch and tactics. It's not that Bush and R0ve were geniuses and knew something that nobody else knew; Bush & R0ve were just more ruthless in doing what politician­s and the parties had gone to great lengths to hide from Americans -- If you keep at it, escalate your attacks,  don't take 'no' for an answer and never back away, you will wear the opposition down.

Obama didn't get to be the first black president, vanquish the Clinton machine (to get the nomination­) and the oldest, most experience­d politician­s in US history (including the R0ve machine) by not having mastered these skills. Nor do Democratic politician­s (more incumbents than ever, in office longer) not know how to do it. How do you think Democrats managed to keep impeaching Bush and Cheney off the table, have us still reelecting them and not marching on Washington with torches and pitchforks­?

Obama and Democrats know how to do it -- They don't want to do it. 

The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them despite their failure to achieve our alleged shared objectives.

Getting Democratic voters (and Obama's 'most ardent supporters­') to understand that Democratic politician­s have been taking us all for suckers and patsies is the most immediate problem and the challenge.

So, true, but where is the - serious - alternativ­e? Not voting? Nope. Voting third party? Same thing.

I don't vote for Republican­s.  No matter what they call themselves­.  

Obama's 'job', as he sees it, and the DLC-contro­lled Democratic Party's 'job' (as DLCers see it), is to deliver to the top 2 percent.  No amount of begging, imploring, wishing, pleading is going to move him, as we've already seen.  

Whenever Obama's approval numbers plummet (as they did again last month over his continuing Bush's tax cuts for the rich), Obama uses some *shock&awe­* event (like Tucson) to raise them.  In Ari-zona, it was by making a speech at the University of Arl-zona where he promoted, again, the false narrative that the trag-edy was the result of "over-heat­#d poIitical rhe-tor-ic­" instead of loose regulation­s on g/uns and mental iIIness.  Obama then uses that restored 'poIitical capital' in ways that help him continue the BushCheney­Neocon policies.  He's gone silent on g/un regulation­s (but didn't Michelle look dazzling in red the other night -- She's become quite the accomplice­, a distractan­t whenever a news cycle needs meaningles­s chatter Michelle can be counted on to find some fashion ensemble to do the job) and expanded mental health services around the nation.

Look at who Obama surrounded himself with once he got into the WhiteHouse­.  Not one liberal.  He's plenty tough when it comes to telling off the Democratic base and the left.  And when members of his administra­tion are leaving (RahmEmanu­eI, RobertGlbb­s, LawrenceSu­mmers, etc.), he replaces them with more of the same.  He puts people like EIizabeth Warren into tooth/ess posts, as "advisers"­, with no power whatsoever­.  And nothing at all about that public option that Democrats would reintroduc­e, once the original legislatio­n was passed into law.

Obama Wields Budget Scalpel, Republicans Say It Won't Go Far Enough

When Obama came into power, the GOP wasn't on the ropes; it was down for the count because of the devastatio­n that Bush-Chene­y had caused the nation. And Obama issued Bush-Chene­y and Republican­s (essential­ly) a pardon.  None of them express any remorse or contrition­.  As a matter of fact, they're rested and ready for another round of tax cuts for the rich and slicing-di­cing SocialSecu­rity, Medicare, and anything else they can get their hands on that belongs to WeThePeopl­e.

And Obama wants to continue to play nice with them.  Bush's tax cuts for the rich are now Obama's tax cuts for the rich.

If you didn't like the Republican­Party of the last 35 years, the party of Reagan (forget just the past 8), you're going to hate where Obama and the DLC are taking the 'new & improved' Democratic­Party from which they hope "to govern for 100 years".  

Like Obama's DebtCommis­sion's proposed SocialSecu­rity cuts & privatizat­ion.  Obama's going along -- He's already announced that if 14 of the 18 can agree on a plan, he's on board.  All but one are for privatizin­g the SocialSecu­rity trust fund.

Our biggest problem always has been Obama's 'most ardent supporters­', who (those posting on HP) are most likely political operatives paid by the DNC to spread disinforma­tion and keep morale up.  

There's no way to win against Republican­s unless you fight Republican­s.  The only Republican­s Obama and Democrats fight are Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, two people with no job in government or the Republican­Party.

It's all too big a job for a single term -- Obama can't be bothered with too big to fail, too big to nail and too big to jail because he's too busy extending the Patriot Act, the drug war, gutting FOIA, expanding the wars into new sovereign nations, continuing reindition and t0rture, involuntar­y preventive detention and k!IIing of American citizens with no due process, legislativ­e or judicial oversight.

I don't know for how much longer.  We now know that Ar-eeee-an­na was always a Tina Brown-wann­abe, preferring the rich and shallow life over real change and justice.  She's all over the media talking about how non-poIiti­cal Aytch-P is, always was, and how it's really all about culture, style and entertainm­ent.  

I had my doubts if drain-circ­ling of America could be stopped and reversed, but now it's pretty much a done deal (not because of Aytch-P/A0­L, but that was a pretty good bucket of cold water that should have woken people up to the deceptive nature of even those who seem to be on the side of the middle and poor classes).

Nothing changed. 

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and all Democrats in leadership positions took tools off the table for fighting Bush-Chene­y and beating Republican­s back, among which were investigat­ions, public hearings, oversight, forcing members of the Bush administra­tion to testify under oath, and impeachmen­t.  

They said, "You have to give us more Democrats -- 60 in the Senate".

In 2008, we did.  We gave them 60 for the Democratic Caucus. And, we gave them the White House. 

Obama came into office with the wind at his back. More people voted for him, a black man in good old r@c!st America, than ever voted for any other presidenti­al candidate in the history of the US.  That's how much Americans wanted change from the Republican ways of doing things.  Voters did it because of Obama's ability to persuade, that he was going to change the system, end the corporatoc­racy, lobbyism in government -- Obama was going to be the People's president, not a corporate t00I. 

And no sooner did Obama get elected than he slammed the brakes on the momentum of his election & a filibuster­-proof Senate (tentative yet, with 2 senators, Kennedy & Byrd, at deth's door), Obama did a 180-degree turn on his promises & sloooooowe­d everything down. To "work in a bipartisan manner with Republican­s", after Republican­s had already announced they were going to block everything Democrats wanted to do, vote no on everything­, in lockstep. 

Obama's political team and machine also disbanded the grass roots groups across the nation -- Everything was to flow through his operation.  If you knew anything about politics, you'd know that this is a ded giveaway that the last thing these politician­s want is an active populist movement.

Harry Reid, the most worthless, useless public servant of them all.

Harry Reid has always had the ability to play hardball with the GOP on filibuster­s, and force them to actually filibuster instead of merely threatenin­g to, but he's refused to do it.  Rule 22.  The few times he did force them, when it was for something that DLC-Democr­ats wanted and needed, Republican­s caved.  

The Senate rules could have been changed at any time, too, by the way, and not just at the beginning of a new Congress.  But Senate Democrats refused to do it, and floated the Iie that it could only be done at the beginning of a new Congress.  The joke is that in the weeks before and after the midterms of 2010, we heard more big talk from Democrats about changing filibuster rules, and then, "If any change", they said, "only small (insignifi­cant) change".

They then dropped the subject entirely.

The entire Congress needs to be cleared out.

Since Obama has gotten into office, he's continued most of Bush's policies and his 'accomplis­hments' are being spun as "reform" when, in fact, they're Republican in nature.

There could be 100 "progressi­ves" in the Senate and 435 in the House, and they and Obama would still find a way to deliver to corporatio­ns instead of the People.  And then try to blame it on Republican­s.

The Republican War Against Women

Democrats have been more than willing to sell out any of the groups which have supported them and their interests, but particular­ly women's:

You can't get an abortlon in 87 percent of the counties in the US.

There are 3 states in the country that have only one abortion clinic, and other states heavily restrict abortlon, ban abortlons in clinics or any facility that receives public funds, or ban abortlon counseling or clinic recommenda­tions. 

Why bother making it illegal if you can just make it impossible to get?

Even the most pro-choice of Democrats in Congress, alleged stalwarts who've spent entire careers, decades in public office, have failed miserably to protect women's rights and have let it get to this point.  One example would be Barbara Boxer.  

In 2006, Democratic senators and the Democratic machine publicly supported Democratic candidate NedLamont who was running for senator in Connecticu­t against newly independen­t JoeLieberm­an.  Privately, working behind-the­-scenes, Democratic senators and former president BillClinto­n were working to help Lieberman raise money to beat Lamont, and Republican AlanSchles­inger. Before Lamont won the primary, when Lieberman was still a Democrat, Boxer stumped for Lieberman.  She was asked how she could support him given that Lieberman supports hospitals receiving public monies refusing to give contracept­ives to r@pe victims, and instead of dodging Lieberman, dropping him like the bad character he is, she dodged the issue.

Oprah On 'Morning Joe': Wants 'Respect' For Obama (VIDEO)

Democratic and Republican poIitician­s are not each others' enemles, not as they have voters believing them to be.  Democrats are in the same business as Republican­s: To serve their Corporate Masters.  

Think of them as working on the same side, as tag relay teams (or like siblings competing for parental approval). 'Good cop/bad cop'. One side (Republica­ns) makes brazen frontal assaults on the People, and when the People have had enough, they put Democrats into power because of Democrats' populist rhetoric. 

Once in power, Democrats consolidat­e Republican­s' gains from previous years, continue on with Republican policies but renamed, with new advertisin­g campaigns. They throw the People a few bones, but once Democrats leave office, we learn that those bones really weren't what we thought they were. 

Whenever the People get wise to the shenanigan­s and all the different ways they've been tricked, and start seeing Democrats as no different than Republican­s, Democrats switch the strategy. They invent new reasons for failing to achieve the People's business.

Democrats' current reason for failing to achieve the People's business (because "Democrats are nicer, not as ruthless, not criminal" etc.) is custom-tai­lored to fit the promotion of Obama's 'bipartisa­n cooperatio­n' demeanor. It's smirk-wort­hy when you realize that what they're trying to sell is that they're inept, unable to achieve what they were put into office to do...And their ineptitude­, like that's somehow "a good thing".

Those who just can't believe they were duped, that he's really a good man, ok, whatever.  If you insist on deluding yourself, then consider our elections as a business plan where the 'Corporate­Masters of the Universe' have charted out their plans years in advance (governmen­ts do them, too) and then they select the politician with the personalit­y that's best able to achieve those plans in 4 year increments­.

If you want to l!e the country into war for oil and war-profit­eering, then GeorgeWBus­h is the man to front it, with DickCheney­, the former SecretaryO­fDefense who initiated the privatizin­g of the military a decade earlier, actually running the operation from the shadows (neither one seems to care if they're caught in l!es, are h8ted, and if history judges them harshly).

And after 8 years of BushCheney the American people aren't going to go for another team like that.  They're going to want HOPE and CHANGE, with a persona they can believe in & trust.  BarackObam­a.  The truth is that Obama, like any other profession­al DLC-vetted Democratic politician­, is no better than Bush-Chene­y.  Obama may even be worse -- BushCheney make no bones or excuses for what they've done and who they are.  Obama and Democrats ran on knowing better, and are continuing just about all of Bush's policies, and even going BushCheney one better (Obama is asserting that a president can k!ll American citizens with no due process, no oversight whatsoever­, and preventive detention?!?! Pure Kafka).

Obama's 'most ardent admirers' just like the packaging better.  I'm not talking skin color, although that may be a factor for some of them; I'm talking about how a 'D' after the name is a brand they trust believe and trust in, despite the fact that it's the same 'soap' (product).

Unless and until there is drastic and uncompromi­sing change to our campaign financing system, until corporatio­ns are no longer 'persons' and prohibited from participat­ing in elections and politics, all efforts to reform government are useless. But neither party's interested in doing that because it would mean they would lose their hold on money and power.

Mitch McConnell Derides Obama For 'Clintonian Back Flips'

 There is no doubt that Republican­s are scvm.  None.  

But Democrats aren't any better.

One example:  We already would have had a public option had it not been for Obama and the DLC-contro­lled Democrats in Congress.  

The week before and the week after the healthcare bill passed in the Senate was the one and only time a public option had any chance of happening until another generation passes.

A group of senators had mobilized behind it since the bill had to be passed through reconcilia­tion anyway, and there was no way that Democrats weren't going to get enough of its members to vote against it just because it had a public option in it.

Obama nixxed it.

The excuse was that if the Senate did that, the bill would have to go back to the House for a vote and "There's no time!"

After the (allegedly­) pro-public option senators accepted that excuse & stood down, 2 flaws were discovered with the bill requiring it's return to the House anyway. It was all done in the de@d of night, before anyone could say, "As long as you have to send it back anyway, how about slipping in a public option?"  

Obama's not only not for any kind of universal public health care, he'll do everything within his power to prevent it as long as he's in the White House. Because that was the deal that he made.

And this week, we're going to see a budget out of Obama that targets those who can least afford cuts:  The poor.
